Currently…

I just walked outside to check the mail in shorts and a t-shirt.

IMG_9793

I mean, I was chilly, but I was okay. Don’t get me wrong‚ÄĒ I very much appreciate this warmer weather, because only God knows what the rest of winter has in store for Boston…

Speaking of Boston, I’ll be back there in less than a week! I was complaining to everyone that winter break is too long (I’ll miss my friends, wahh wahh, #firstworldproblems), but this one has gone by in a flash. I’m not even sick of my family yet! ūüėČ

I feel like I have a lot to tell you, but I am completely¬†stumped on how to make it all cohesive, so I think this is a great time to do a “Currently” post! Julia and Hayley recently shared theirs for this month, and Amanda always does them.¬†I like this bandwagon, so I’m hoppin’ on it!

Current book:¬†Story of a Soul¬†by St. Therese of Lisieux. Rachel and I are reading it together over winter break, but I feel like we’re not going to finish it by the time we get back to school.¬†Or maybe that’s just me.

It’s St. Therese’s autobiography, and it is one of the sweetest, most inspiring stories ever. My opinion may or may not be influenced by the fact that she’s my patron saint. But still! It’s beautiful.

Current music:¬†I’m loving a lot of songs right now, but I just listened to this one. So sick.

Love the song. Do not condone smoking.

Current guilty pleasure: Froyo and pizza. Except that I am not guilty whatsoever. I ate froyo with Daliza and Michael on Friday night, and I ate pizza with some more high school friends when I hosted them on Saturday night.

IMG_9790

Um, I really like pizza. It had been tooooooo long.

Current nail color:¬†Some metallic rose color that is chipped and fab. You don’t want to see it.

Current drink: Honestly, this will probably always be water or milk, unless we decide that melted peanut butter counts.

Current food:¬†Opened-face egg sandwiches‚ÄĒ one with melted cheese, one with avocado and sriracha, and then let it rain cracked black pepper.¬†Angels sing whenever I pierce open that runny yolk (‚Üź that sounds really freaking weird, but I’m keeping it).

DSC_2078

Current obsession:¬†Stretching my calves. I have very tight calves, and I blame that on my childhood habit of walking on my toes around the house and possibly figure skating. As a future physical therapist, I figured it would be a good idea to make sure I have that range of motion in my calves for¬†movements¬†like squats. I’ve been doing this stretch:

Also, I’m not super keen on the fact that my heels naturally pop up when I walk. I feel¬†like an eager five-year-old going off to kindergarten.

Current craving: Probably sleep. Me:

Current need:¬†To do my nails (see “current nail color”).

Current bane of my existence:¬†Nothing major, thankfully. The cost of textbooks?… I really need to work once I get back to Boston.

Current indulgence:¬†I am currently sitting in our cushy recliner chair with a fluffy blanket and pillow on my lap. I would get up to get my phone that’s ten feet away to take a photo of the scene, but I’m being indulgent and not moving (see gif under “current craving”).

Current procrastination:¬†Unpacking from college. Oh wait, but I’m going to have to pack for college again on Friday… DARN. (Fellow college students, am I the only one who doesn’t¬†really¬†unpack over breaks?)

Current confession:¬†I’m stuffing all my friend catch-up in these last 1.5 weeks that I’m home. But that’s just concentrated smile-time right?

On Friday, Daliza and I¬†went to an old garden that was owned by a wealthy lawyer named Samuel Untermeyer during the 1800s. The garden is obviously not that lush right now in the middle of winter, but it still has a cool, eerie vibe. Totally up Daliza’s alley. Totally some place I would only visit¬†with Daliza.

Later that night, Daliza and I met up with our pal Michael for crepes… until we found froyo at the crepe place.¬†The next night, I hosted a few of my other high school friends for pizza and a huge catch-up session. We talked for a solid 5 hours! Lettin’ those good times roll.

IMG_9789

I kept bringing down snacks throughout the night, just like mama taught me. You will never go hungry in the moves and grooves household.

Current quote:¬†I’m really feelin’ this.

Current excitement: I am meeting up with two friends today! First is Colby, who was one of my cabin-mates at Blend last year (her Instagram is filled with pancakes and motivation). Second is Christine, who graduated from BU last year (she also has a blog!).

Current mood:¬†Blessed/content/humbled. I am incredibly grateful for the good people in my life and for all God’s blessings.

Have a fantastic week, everyone! Eat a couple slices of pizza at some point.

So tell me your current…

Incredible Things

There are some incredible things as of late that are noteworthy:

It’s incredible¬†that Thanksgiving is this week. That means finals are coming, which means the semester is almost over, which means I’m almost halfway done with sophomore year of college, which means my senior friends are almost done with college, which means I need to shut the freak up before I go insane.

It’s incredible¬†how kind people can be, despite the fact that you’ve¬†only met in person once (or not at all).¬†My blogger friends near and far have been nothing but kind and loving to me and to other fellow bloggers, often for no particular reason. Sweet prayers and messages from Julia and Hayley. Kind words by Emily. Heavy care packages from a certain no-bake king. All of YOU who choose to read about what goes on in my brain. God bless you.

The power of a 10 minute nap is incredible.¬†I was in desperate need of a nap the morning/afternoon before my exam on Thursday. I could have studied straight through until 3:30 pm, but my friends forced me to take a nap.¬†SO BENEFICIAL. My brain could actually function. Who ‘da thunk?

It’s incredible¬†how talented humans are.¬†Besides people like Michael Phelps, Mother Theresa, and Beyonce, there are some darn talented people around you! Including you. I was reminded of that at my friends’ a cappella concert on Friday night.

It’s incredible how God shows so much love through people.¬†It’s truly life-changing to have friends and family who seek to love as Christ loves.

It’s incredible how much work I have to do over Thanksgiving.¬†I’m just complaining for the sake of it, which is not model behavior, but…¬†I have two exams and two essays due next week. It’s always a good time to be thankful for a great¬†education, but this is REALLY a¬†good time for that, eh?

It’s incredible that it’s still pretty warm outside in late November.¬†Not that I’m complaining!

It’s incredible that Justin Bieber made it onto my Spotify playlist.¬†It’s his song “Sorry“. I’m sorry I like it. UGH.

The power of patience and prayer is incredible.¬†Because guess what this girl got this weekend!!! Let’s just say I might not need another gynecology appointment. More on this later.

Find something to smile about at every hour of the day. When in doubt, nap it out.

So tell me:

Something incredible in your life right now.

Thanksgiving plans for my fellow Americans? I’m going back to New York to see the much-missed fam and COOK!

Brother-Sister Rivalry

Hello and Happy Memorial Day!

This weekend has been the closest taste of summer yet, which I guess is often true once Memorial Day swings around. The community pools open, the air fills with BBQ smoke, and the Hugh Jass (stole that from Kath) bumble bees start harassing me. A lot of marvelous things have been happening in the past few days including some moves, a Frozen movie date, treats, and a trip to Boston!

MiMM

All marvelous things, yes? Thanks for hosting as always, Katie!

Here are the highlights:

Friday

1) Finished the AP Bio exam and keep myself from jumping up and down like a maniac.

2) Went to the gym for some moves:

5 min. arc trainer, then 3 sets of each:

  • 10 pistols each leg + 20 Bulgarian split squats each leg
  • 1 min. wall sit + 30 side jump lunges (my glutes were sore for two days AGAIN)
  • 20 hamstring ball roll-ins + 20 single leg bridge pulses

I was gonna do abs, so I started to do some exercises, but then I stopped because I just wasn’t feelin’ it.

3) Ate my new favorite dessert:

Vanilla bean ice cream with fresh mangoes

You’re welcome.

Saturday

1) Baked the best banana muffins (from Two Peas and Their Pod) I’ve ever had:

DSC_8136

Fresh out of the oven with almond butter‚ÄĒ this is what dreams are made of.

2) Went grocery shopping for two bunches of bananas, two tubs of 2% Greek yogurt, and two containers of hummus. It was like Noah’s Ark on that checkout conveyor belt.

3) Attended a super late lunch/early dinner with the other religious education teachers and volunteers, courtesy of our pastor who is retiring this year!

4) Worked on handstands. I’m starting to hover more with that freestanding handstand! I’ve caught the Crossfit Games bug. (You can yell at me for the fact that I’ve never done Crossfit in my life.)

5) Watched Frozen with one of my best friends, Daliza! Now I understand the hype for that movie‚ÄĒ Anna is my hero and if Olaf were real, he’d be my best friend. Daliza and I are also working on our duets for some of the songs, so you better watch out for our voices in Frozen 2.

Sunday

1) Drove up to Boston to visit Ben!

2) Disowned him for wearing this shirt:

10417538_10152325508176749_8858318672143017251_n

No.

Northeastern and Boston University sibling rivalry has commenced.

3) Ate a delicious sushi lunch at Avana Sushi:

4) Bought some BU gear and put on my (mouse-like) game face:

DSC_8149

5) Walked to J.P. Licks for some awesome ice cream. Ben and I shared a scoop of mint cookies and cream (uh, two favorite flavors in one) and a pistachio scoop. Perfection:

DSC_8152 photo 4

Wait, why did I share my ice cream with this kid again?

6) Took a lovely, long stroll along the Charles River. The weather was absolutely PERFECT on Sunday, even though it was supposed to rain according the forecast. The sun was out, there were almost no clouds in the sky, and the temperature was just right (even though I think I did overdress with my jeans and long sleeve shirt). Can we please just pause the weather so that it can be like this forever?

It really hasn’t sunk in that this will be my home for the next four years. I’m excited though!!

Now I’m off to go exercise outside on this warm, sunny Memorial Day, and then we’re gonna dig into my mom’s grilled feast! Hope you all have a wonderful day!

So tell me:

Three fun things you did this weekend!

What are you Americans doing for Memorial Day?

Have you ever watched Frozen?
