18 Things

Hi there!

I hope you all had a wonderful weekend! Mine was both exhausting and fun— there was a sleepover, waffles, delicious dinner, a dance show (last one EVER), and I turned 18 somewhere in there.

MiMM

Linking up with Katie!

So here are 18 things about my weekend during which I became a legal adult:

1. Moves

After school on Friday, I headed to the gym (there are 3 days left in my membership!) for a workout.

5 min. arc trainer + supersets:

  • 10-12 pistols each leg + 15-20 Bulgarian split squats each leg
  • 20 hamstring ball roll-ins + 30 Bosu lunge hops
  • 20 lunge pulses + 20 single leg bridge pulses each leg

Plus core work!

2. Dance company dinner

At my favorite Japanese restaurant! I got the roll combo with eel avocado, yellowtail, and tuna rolls. They’re all my absolute favorites, so you better believe I finished that whole plate. No sushi left behind.

3. Dance company sleepover

‘Twas a crazy night with 14 girls sleeping over, but it was a blast. We signed T-shirts, screamed Frozen songs at the top of our lungs, and played Cards Against Humanity. Successful sleepover indeed!

4. Epic breakfast

Waking up at 9 AM after going to bed at 3 AM was not ideal on my birthday, but making breakfast (best meal of the DAY) for my best gals was worth it. My super-mom did most of the work though. We have enough waffles and cereal for the rest of the year I think.

DSC_8204 DSC_8205

The only thing I really did— gluten free banana pancakes.

DSC_8206

Approximately 1/5 of all the waffles we made. {We froze all the leftovers.}

DSC_8203

Part of my breakfast: pancakes with Greek yogurt, peanut butter, and maple syrup added later. Heavennnnn.

Thanks so much, mom and pop, for being such generous hosts to all my dance friends!!! It has been requested that you start a hotel service…but I think you’re already there.

5. A nice nap

‘Nough said.

6. Beautiful weather all weekend

Like, perfect.

7. Wonderful Mass with my family

It’s the last week of the Easter season!

8. Awesome birthday texts from my friends

9. Phone call with the brother

So happy that I got to talk with Mr. Penguino.

10. Eighteen burpees

…ya know. I ♥ burpees, so it just seemed appropriate.

11. Amazing birthday dinner

I chose to go to a Latin restaurant called Sonora that my parents had raved about in the past, and it was the BOMB. We all shared a few tapas, a couple entrees, and of course a couple desserts.

12. The waiters sang happy birthday to me really quietly

I was kinda hoping they would have fireworks and a mariachi band though.

13. Best birthday presents ever from Daliza

Cutest collage ever.

Uhhh how cool is this?! She drew the little mascot on there and everything!

The goodies in the box.

Daliza is one of my best friends ever, and this gift meant the absolute world to me. I swear it’s not just because she gave me sunflower seed butter. 😉 I can tell that she put so much effort and thought into it and I appreciate it from the depths of my nut-butter-loving heart. Thank you so much, Daliza!

14. Woke up automatically at 7 AM yesterday morning

My internal clock hates me -_-

15. Watched CrossFit Games while eating breakfast instead of trying to go back to sleep

Bad idea. I was so tired for the rest of the day.

16. Last dance show with my dance school EVER

That sounds more emotional than it was. Yesterday was the show for the younger dance classes in our dance school, so we did perform shortly, but we mostly just helped out backstage. It was a long day.

Alison + Allison. Sons.

17. Ate a snickerdoodle

Thanks to my friend Rachel who brought a bunch for us to eat yesterday! Snickerdoodles are my fave.

18. Thanked God

For this weekend and every single person that made it so dang special.

Hello, adulthood! I’m {sorta} ready for you!

So tell me:

What is the best birthday gift you ever received?

Three things you did this weekend!

Solo Superbowl Vlog {MIMM #22}

Hello and Happy Monday!

I hope everyone had a fine weekend with some fun festivities, especially if you were watching the Super Bowl! I went solo for my Super Bowl Sunday experience, but it was fun because I talked to you guys through a camera (see vlog below) 😉

Before we get to the too-close-to-my-own-face footage, I have some other marvelous scenes from the weekend to share with you all!

MiMM

As always, the fabulous Katie is hosting this marvelous link up!

Friday night out at a cute French café with my girls Je’lyn, Veronica, and Jeannine. I got an apple turnover that was just okay.

Dance, homework, Sunday school teaching, and Mass happened per usual as well.

And then there was this vlog. I happened to be alone for Super Bowl Sunday, which was fine since I’m not that into the game anyway (Seahawks won, right?). I just got kinda lonely, so I decided to film myself cooking and doing other things that you might not care about. But this is real life, everyone. No frills. 😀

If you watched that entire video without cringing, we are officially best friends. Also, excuse the alfalfa sticking up from my head at the end.

Just to add: Bruno Mars rocked that halftime show! I have no idea what the Red Hot Chili Peppers were doing though. I must say, Beyonce’s performance last year is still hard to beat….

I hope you all have a marvelous Monday and a wonderful week!

So tell me:

What did you do for Super Bowl Sunday? Were you pleased with the outcome? Half time show?

What did you do this weekend?

Thoughts on the vlog?

WIAW: Super Snacky

Wednesday! It’s like the halftime show of the week. So get a little crazy, do a little dance, move around, and…WIAW! Yes, I just made WIAW into a verb.

Do you ever have those days where all your meals consist of small snacks? Sort of like a full day sampler? That’s how my day was on Friday. I was also just really hungry at some points of the day, so I kept reaching for more things to nibble on. I like little bits of everything anyway, so it was quite a delicious and diverse day of eats!

Breakfast

Friday was a snow day for us here in NY, so I slumbered until about 10 am and woke up hungry and ready for some waffles!

First, I needed something in my belly while I prepared the waffles:

DSC_7361

Greek yogurt with banana, honey, and cinnamon

Then ’twas time for the star of the meal— Shortstacks Sweet Potato waffles (that we got a while ago through Groupon…of course)! We tried the vegan version of the batter, which uses almond milk and oil, and they turned out super tasty and fluffy. The sweet potato flavor was also unique and lovely. I just might try to make homemade sweet potato pancakes one day!

Left in the iron until crispy on the outside and still soft on the inside. Drizzle o’ maple syrup is obligatory.

And for some more healthy fats:

Lunch

Appetizer:

DSC_7370

Some carrots and hummus. Can’t go wrong.

Main:

Lentil soup from New Year’s with Crunchmaster crackers for…well, crunch!

Dessert:

Dinner

Salad with sesame Mahi Mahi

Eaten at my quasi-vanity/desk in my room since Ben and his buds were downstairs. Youtube bakers and chefs were my dining companions.

DSC_7378

Dessert

I’ve been having these little cute cups of frozen Greek yogurt from Healthy Choice as a sweet end to my nights. They’re the perfect size and very tasty! Also, I love the little messages on top:

DSC_7380 DSC_7381

Dark Fudge Swirl flavor. Although I’m not a huge chocolate ice cream fan, this doesn’t have enough chocolate to deter me from eating it. It’s just a nice subtle swirl of goodness.

I was up pretty late since I woke up so late, so I sorta had a second dessert…

DSC_7382

I had all but two of the leftover monkey bread pieces from…last year technically. Don’t worry, they were still perfectly good! I added some Greek yogurt after I took this picture to make my snack a little more filling. And I just like Greek yogurt with everything.

And that concludes my day of super snacky eats! Sometimes, I’m in the mood for more cohesive, put-together meals. Yet other times like last Friday, I just want my food totally a la carte.

Have a great Wednesday!

So tell me:

Do you ever have days where your meals are just a bunch of snacks?

What are some of your favorite snacks?

Favorite way to satisfy your sweet tooth (semi-regularly)?

Am I Smarter Than a 5-Year-Old?

Hello, hello!

Can I just thank you all so much for your well-wishes on my post about my family’s near-death experience? We are feelin’ the love. ♥ We’ve just been taking it in these past couple of days, but we’re a-okay!

I’m sorry that I was MIA from MIMM yesterday (I’m not even trying sound cool), but I was spending some quality time with my aunt, uncle, and cousins who spent the night at our house. Getting to see them is so fun, and you’ll see why when you read on about my cousins. I also always love talking with my aunt (my confirmation sponsor) and uncle (my godfather).

Mom and I got to cooking and baking while we were waiting for our guests to arrive. I love any excuse to bake, so I decided to make brownies (using this recipe) that everyone seemed to enjoy (thank God— I’ve never used anything but box mix before).

Hors d’œuvre spread.

DSC_7115

Yum.

Our guests (which also included my great-aunt, who lives near by) arrived Sunday night at around 5 PM. My 5-year-old cousin, Angela, and I did not hesitate to start getting crafty with some Do-a-Dot art and drawing. We had a contest to see who could make the most pictures, and she cranked out about five while I only had four. She doesn’t mess around.

DSC_7119

This cutie, Joseph, was the biggest ham for the camera. He really knows how to work it! Just point the camera to him and he is all smiles for ya.

DSC_7151

Before we knew it, my mom had set out a feast for all of us. We decided to go Sandra Lee-style with the semi-homemade method. 30% of the food was made by my mom and the other 70% was takeout from a Chinese restaurant. 100% of the food was fantastic.

DSC_7121

It’s like Thanksgiving again.

DSC_7122

DSC_7123

Spoons ready!

DSC_7129

We were all like happy, full babies.

We had to opportunity to have a very technological conference with my other aunt, uncle and cousins through FaceTime while our grandparents were on the phone line.

DSC_7169

Angela slept in my room for the night, so we had a super awesome slumber party looking at the glow-in-the-dark stars on my ceiling, admiring my multi-colored night light (listen, those are just conveniently there from like, 5th grade), and talking about not being able to sleep and other deep things such as what we would wear to the princess Grand Ball. And let me tell you, Angela is one of THE most intelligent 5-year-olds I’ve ever met, so I can seriously converse with her about this kind of stuff. She speaks more articulately than a lot of my friends even. Juuuust sayin’. She was hyper on half a brownie too, so we talked until 11:30, which is pretty late for Angela. Girls just wanna have fun! 😉

Some tidbits from 5-year-old Angela:

“I want to go get socks from my mom’s room, but I don’t want to go downstairs and bother her…I guess I’ll just have to manage.”

“I was up for an hour after midnight and I just couldn’t go back to sleep so I prayed a decade of the rosary… I also helped Mommy and Daddy clean up the kitchen, open the curtains, and move the shepherd closer to the stable….Yes, I know it’s so frustrating that I couldn’t go back to sleep!”

“You know what? If you want to fall asleep, DON’T have chocolate before bed…The only time you can drink hot chocolate is if it’s super cold that not even ten blankets can keep you warm! You’re so cold that you HAVE to drink the hot chocolate and then put another blanket on top of you.”

Do you see how bright this child is?  I definitely did not know how to use “frustrating” in context or how to pray a rosary at five years old. Her parents are fabulous teachers.

I woke up bright and early to make breakfast for everyone. I also will take any excuse to make big breakfasts for other people. ‘Tis my absolute favorite meal to make AND eat!

DSC_7172

Waffles or pancakes? (This recipe for the waffles + this one for the pancakes)

Eggs, fruit, and congee were also included in this bed & breakfast service. 🙂

You know they’re good when you have pancake on your nose!

We immediately used up our energy from breakfast for running around the house playing bus driver and tag and walk-the-baby. The Game of Life also happened. And yes, Angela played— counting money and all.

DSC_7191

After a while, we were hungry for lunch! My mother just threw together another feast in about 10 minutes flat. Typical madre.

I so wish our guests could have stayed longer, but they have other family members to visit this Christmas— they’ve gotta spread the love! Every minute spent with them is such a blessing.

Today is Christmas Eve! *jumping of excitement* We’re taking advantage of our vicinity to NYC today by going down to see the tree and other festive sights of the season!

So tell me: What are some funny/thoughtful things you’ve heard from a child? What did you do this weekend?

15 Christmas Morning Breakfast Ideas

Can ya just imagine it now? You open your eyes on Christmas morning. Excitement, contentment, and joy immediately fill your body. You throw off the covers to head downstairs and meet the rest of your family in your pajamas.

Perhaps you go straight to the gift unwrapping, or you exchange “Merry Christmas” greetings to everyone. But soon enough, after you’ve spent a little energy just being excited that it’s Christmas, you might notice that your stomach starts asking for a treat to match the warmth, comfort, and sweetness of the season as well.

So here I have for you a roundup of some delicious recipes from other bloggers that you may want to make on Christmas morning! If you want to just spend time with your family and friends without worrying about cooking, there are some make-ahead recipes included too. I, for one, kind of want to make all of these. But that would sort of detract from the family time and whole moderation thing, right?
