WIAW: Benefit Week Eats

Good morning!

I hope you all had a good-spirited April Fools’ Day! Nothing much happened around here. The only thing some people (including myself) did in school was turn on our cell phone alarms for 2:23 PM, and then we left them in our lockers to make a commotion right before school ended. Apparently it caused a little bit of concern, since I guess it is alarming (literally) when all the lockers seem to come to life. It wasn’t anything groundbreaking though. After all, we’ve gotta save some juice for senior prank 😉

With the lack of posts all last week, I have not shown my recent eats! What a shame since I obviously love posting food pictures (*cough* Instagram). So naturally, I’m joining this week’s WIAW party to share what fueled me through my moves and grooves during Benefit Week!

As always, hosted by my hero, Jenn. 😉

In absolutely no particular order, here are some of the things I’ve been eating:

Breakfasts

Overnight oats in a peanut butter jar. GAHHH. (Perfect for transporting to early morning AP Calc review.)

Friday’s nut butter-less breakfast: Greek yogurt, strawberries, banana, chia, hemp, cinnamon, nutmeg, honey

Lunches

Whole wheat wrap with avocado, spinach, soft boiled egg, feta, and salsa added later. SO GOOD. I had another variation of this for dinner one night with two eggs and spicy brown mustard instead of salsa. I highly recommend this combo!

Dinner with the family (Ben was home for a day!) on Sunday! Ben got Sambal chicken and seafood. The other three of us shared a huge Sushi for Two platter. We also had some spring rolls as appetizer. Mmmmm.

How’s THAT for a recent eats recap?! It’s a good thing I just ate dinner, because otherwise, I would be hangry right about now. 😉

I hope you all have a great day!

So tell me:

What is the best vegetable you’ve eaten recently?

What do you like to put in wraps?

Benefit Week in a Nutshell

Hello, world!

Man, have I missed talking to you all. I was trying to save a crapton of blog posts to read in my “Save for Later” folder on Feedly, but I knew I just had to press “Mark all as read.” Fresh start this week!

In the past week, I have been running on adrenaline, sugar, and the love and energy of 14 amazing company mates! If you’re not sure what’s been up in the last 7 days of my life, you can read about Benefit Week here (It’s basically my dance school’s biggest, most important, funnest performance of the year). You can also check out Instagram, because I’ve actually been posting pictures of humans rather than just food. Proof that I have friends. 😉

There is so much to say about my very last Benefit concert with company that I actually cannot fully explain it. Thus, I’ll sum up the week in {mostly} pictures! There are lots.

Although we had rehearsals on Monday and Tuesday, I’ll start with Wednesday, since that’s when the dressing room decorating started. These themes have nothing to do with our dances. This tradition is just for fun!  🙂 I actually don’t have pictures of us dancing because….well, I can’t take selfies on stage.

Wednesday

There are no freshmen in company this year, so the new sophomores took over for Wednesday’s themed dressing room. The theme was….

10003449_715707161785777_1155902985_n

Eloise at the Plaza!

I have neither read the book nor watched the movie, but it was such a cute and unique theme!

1511901_715707311785762_924648595_n 1925177_715707298452430_315505048_n 1545639_715713008451859_562188107_n

They call me Y-money.

Wednesday’s rehearsal included a 1.5 hour staging/lighting rehearsal for the younger dance class I assist and then a full run-through of the show.

Thursday

There’s only one junior in company, so she was joined by the veteran sophomores for decorating! The theme was…

Woodstock/60s!

1512476_716098061746687_585712678_n 1969353_716097861746707_1287000776_n 10153917_716098241746669_939290917_n 10157156_716098271746666_295603308_n 10157320_716097945080032_920079468_n

Such a fun theme! Thursday was our first Community Concert (for disabled and underprivileged in the community). It was a great “opening night!” I do have a picture of me from our big warmup on stage, thanks to my company director:

Friday

Seniors’ turn to decorate!! There are eight seniors this year (more than half of company), so we went all out with our dressing room theme…

10006190_716510711705422_2108228029_n

Circus!

This theme worked out so well, and we all had a blast with it. I was supposed to be some sort of acrobat/trapeze artist person…I just found this purple ballroom dancing dress in my closet and used that.

Each year, seniors design and order shirts that coincide with their dressing room theme. Ours said “Cirque du Company Benefit 2014” on the back!

Company ♥

Saturday

Benefit day. There is always such a mix of emotions on this day— tears of joy and tears of sadness. We are so thrilled to be dancing together at this big show, but we’re also heartbroken that it’s the seniors’ last one. We soaked up every second of it!

We started with lunch at a great Italian restaurant:

Crab cake for me!

1505406_717353308287829_351870901_n

Bux all around.

And then we headed to the theater to walk around, do some company traditions, and bond.

10173710_717353094954517_768935510_n

After the show:

Thanks for the photo, Livv!

And with that, Benefit came to an end… 😦

To say that dance company is a big family is cliche, but it’s also an understatement. Our emotional, hormonal sob session on Saturday night sums up our relationship pretty well. I’m wiped out, but I wouldn’t have it any other way. All of God’s blessings are so humbling. I love you, company ladies!

Have a great day, everyone!

So tell me:

Did you ever have/Do you have a group of friends with which you are super close?

What did you do this weekend?

Sleepy Monday

Hey there!

I hope your Monday is going well so far. Mine has gone by pretty fast, which is why I haven’t posted until now. The only thing is that I’m super tired thanks to a great 2-hour stretch of insomnia last night -_- . I have an issue every so often in which I’m SO tired that I have trouble falling asleep. I’ve figured out that it’s probably due to my over-thinking, stubborn brain. That little stinker. It’s hard to explain why I have so much trouble some nights, and it is certainly never fun to experience, but it happens.

Anyway, two different doctor appointments were on the schedule for today. Fun stuff, right? The first one was at 10 AM so a quick breakfast had to be put in my belly:

Bowl of Special K strawberry, PB Puffins, and chia seeds with milk + banana with sunflower seed butter

Tasty! (*In the Candy Crush man’s creepy voice*)

After my appointment, my mom and I made a quick stop to Costco to pick up some replenishments for our pantry and fridge. Then came the highlight of my day–a Starbucks catch-up with my friend Lilly from dance!

Green tea frapps for both of us

In my dance company, we have a fun “Big Sis, Little Sis” matchup where a current company member becomes the big sister to an incoming company member. Lilly is a senior like me, but she just moved to New York last year and made it into company this year, so I’m her big sister (even though I’m shorter 😉 )! We had an awesome time talking about college, west coast vs. east coast, and healthy food (which she loves just like me!). Loved our bonding time 🙂

I just finished lunch, which I threw together in about 2 minutes, because I kinda just want to NAP. I wanted to work out around this time, but I think my body needs sleep. Plus, I have another doctor’s appointment at 5 PM. Woo.

DSC_5724 DSC_5725

Whole wheat angel hair pasta with spinach and salmon. Sriracha drizzle of course!

My lack of sleep is making this Monday sort of a hazy day, but pray for me that I can nap and sleep tonight!

Have a great rest of the day!

So tell me: Do you ever have trouble sleeping due to over-thinking? What do you like to get at Starbucks or any coffee shop?
