WIAW: iPhone Photography

Wait, I’m still posting?

I’m still at FYSOP and all, but I decided to type up some posts during the weekend so I could still check in with you guys! Also, What I Ate Wednesday with Jenn is just fun.

I mentioned last week that I will be abandoning the DSLR while I’m at college, so I’ve been trying to brush up my iPhone food photography with the help of the VSCO Cam app. I feel like this vscocam is the LA-hipster-foodie app to use, but I can’t resist feeling like Cait’s Plate or Molly Yeh (except a lot less refined) when I edit photos there.

So here’s a mix of my last DSLR and iPhone/vscocam-edited food photos from home AND college the last week!

I just had a spoonful of peanut butter here in my dorm because I didn’t get my fix at breakfast. Once I start going to the dining hall for breakfast during the school year, I’m actually going to bring a little container of nut butter with me. Bring on the judgmental stares. BRING IT.

The college experience is going well so far, by the way! I must admit that I’m a little homesick, even though my parents are visiting this weekend for parent day. Nevertheless, I’m making friends (woo!) and having fun learning about the issue areas for which we are all volunteering. Maybe I’ll be able to sneak in a quick “thinking out loud” post tomorrow, but we shall see if time (and sanity) permits. 🙂

Hope you guys have a great Wednesday!

So tell me:

Florida Weekend Confessions

Good morning!

We’re in the home stretch here in Florida! We have a little over a week before it’s time to head back to New York, and I’m actually quite happy about that. Although my time in the sunshine state has been absolutely wonderful, I’m ready to go back to our cozy home up north (I make it sound like I live in Alaska).

Today is also the day that Daliza leaves me 😦 Her family drove down from New York like hardcore troopers, so she’ll be joining them at a hotel, but she’ll still be nearby! My cousin, aunt, and uncle came in yesterday though, so we still have great company.

I’m feeling like it’s confession time again for this weekend recap. Honesty is the best policy, am I right? 😉

MiMM

Sharing my confessions on Katie‘s marvelous Monday linkup!

Confession #1: I’m slightly obsessed with Us The Duo.

Their concert in Orlando on Friday night was so awesome. I don’t even care if I’ve known about their existence for only 5 days. I’m a fangirl and I already know the words to most of their songs. They are absolutely flawless when they sing live, which is a rarity these days with big-time musicians.

They melt my heart.

Confession #2: Daliza and I learned the lyrics to this song:

It’s a song about BANANAS. A healthy living blogger’s dream right there. You should learn the words too, just to have it in your back pocket for impromptu performances. (This is the guy in Us the Duo and he performed it for us on Friday night, haha!)

Confession #3: Sometimes I just want Cheerios.

DSC_0083

But I also want sunflower seed butter. But putting sunflower seed butter in a regular bowl of cereal is a little inconvenient, so we compensate by making a rather patriotic yogurt bowl. Huzzah!

Confession #4: I probably would not do too well with hot yoga.

I think it was 90+ degrees F on Friday morning, and I made it through only 30 minutes of a yoga video before rolling up my mat and going back into the air-conditioned house.

DSC_0079

I was dripping sweat even though I was in the shade.

Confession #5: I’ve been watching the Crossfit Games all weekend.

I just can’t stop being in awe of those athletes. I also can’t stop staring at their shoulders!!!

Rich Froning? Incredible.

Confession #6: I am scared of Daliza.

She tried to pull my feet when we were swimming in my friend’s pool. Like, who does that?! She also scared me when I was walking out of a room, and I screamed and fell to the floor. Oh, she threw stuffed Pikachus at my head too. She doesn’t love me.

“Do I have anything in my teeth?”

Confession #7: I ate soft serve ice cream two nights in a row.

And both were fantastic. Soft serve is just so delightful, I don’t think it gets old!

Confession #8: I didn’t eat lunch on Saturday.

We went to our family friends’ house, and they said we would have an early dinner, so I just snacked on watermelon and cherries for “lunch” while swimming with Daliza. Needless to say, I was ravenous afterwards. I was so, so happy when I got to eat this delicious food made by our hostess.

DSC_0112

Daliza even tried fish (salmon) for the first time ever! She’s a very picky selective eater, so that was HUGE for her. She even said two days beforehand: “I would never eat fish.” OKAY. And then she tried eel last night. She has become a new person on this trip.

🙂

Confession #9: We ordered a little too much sushi.

I didn’t think it was possible, but the six of us (Daliza didn’t venture into the sushi) were stuffed to the brim after this meal, and this isn’t even all of it!

Confession #10: I really want some Lucky Charms.

It’s sitting in the pantry because I bought some last week “for my cousin.”

Confession #11: I did burpees this weekend!

I’ve been doing some here and there because I think I can start increasing my exercise a little more(!!) now. Slowly. I don’t do them often, but I did some and it felt so great!

I should go to sleep now. I’m making waffles for la famiglia in the morning/this morning/now.

Hope you all have a fantastic day!

What’s your favorite “indulgence” cereal?

Do you like hot yoga?

Soft or hard ice cream?

Confessions from the weekend!

Weekend Confessions III

Hey there!

I hope you all enjoyed your weekends, whether you were celebrating the red, white, and blue or catching up on rest and relaxation! My weekend was very relaxing, but I also had a blast with my friends and family. So blessed!

MiMM

Joining Katie‘s marvelous Monday!

I have so much to say about my weekend, so I’m gonna do it confession style {third edition}:

Confession #1:

On the night when we were supposed to have fireworks(the night before 4th of July), Daliza and I wanted soft serve ice cream so badly, but the nasty thunderstorm was preventing us from going to get some. So we pouted and nearly cried like 4-year-olds…

 photo 2

…until it stopped raining.

photo 3

Score.

We’re adults, I promise.

Confession #2:

I spend a good 20+ minutes each day working on my handstand. I shall stick the dang thing. Right, Amanda?

Confession #3:

My moves have been walking, Pilates, and yoga recently. Because slower workouts just need to happen right now.

Confession #4:

I left Ben at home on 4th of July to go to a graduation party. He had just arrived from Boston for the holiday weekend, so I picked him up, brought him home, and left him there. I made him pasta salad and he napped, so he was alright. He also went over to his friend’s house, so it’s not like I completely abandoned him. 😉

Confession #5:

Italian families are so FUN. Michael had his graduation/his mom’s birthday party on the 4th, and it was a blast. Not only was the food amazing (*ahem* an Oreo+Reese’s ice cream cake— holla), but the company was even better. We played Loaded Questions of course (thanks for lending it to us, Veronica!).

photo 1

Also, watching the World Cup with his family was craaaaazy. In a good way!

Confession #6:

I was so hyper on sugar when I got home from the graduation party (ice cream + cookies=Alison is off the walls). It was too dark to walk outside and I wasn’t really feeling yoga, so I literally walked up and down my stairs for a good 20 minutes. I prayed while I was at it, because…I’m insane for walking up and down my stairs at 11 PM why not?

Confession #7:

This weekend was the first time I went to the pool this summer. I went because the kids I babysit wanted me to join them and their parents. My skin doesn’t like chlorine, so I didn’t want to go at first, but I caved (their little faces!!!) and went. It was fun! And COLD. Next time, I won’t go when the sun is setting.

photo 4

I just didn’t put my head underwater because a) I would have been extra cold; b) I still had makeup on— don’t wanna scare people looking like a raccoon.

Confession #8:

My parents are like teenagers updating their social media pages.

DSC_9314

It’s okay, they needed to post real time updates for their anniversary celebration!

Confession #9:

The food at the restaurant we went to for their anniversary was pretty terrible. My gargantuan crab cake had lots of fillers and no flavor. Dad’s “blood orange mascarpone cheesecake” was rubbery. Mom’s “panna cotta” was curdled. The food was clearly not fresh, which was a bummer.

DSC_9334

Blood orange mascarpone cheesecake was actually just a funky rainbow sherbet sponge

#firstworldproblems

Oh well. Ya win some, ya lose some.

Confession #10:

I turned into a huge sports fan this weekend. All the World Cup and Wimbledon excitement has me yelling at the television like my dad. I do usually like watching tennis, but this is a once-every-four-years occurrence when it comes to soccer.

I know, I’m a fake fan.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I definitely have so many more confessions, but I think ten is quite enough, huh? So despite the gnarly food at that restaurant, this weekend was absolutely splendid!
Hope you all have a marvelous day!
So tell me:
How did you celebrate 4th of July?
Have you gone swimming this summer?
Have you ever eaten food at a restaurant that was just nasty?
