I Should Probably Feel More Stressed For Finals

Thinking-Out-Loud

It has been way too long since I’ve joined Amanda’s party!

1) Firstly, thank you all for your words of wisdom and support on Monday’s post. You’re the peanut butter to my banana.  That could be taken very wrongly. *Getting my head out of the gutter.* You’re the peanut butter to my jelly— let’s just stick with the classic 🙂

2) It’s officially finals week (after my one linguistics class today).

stress relief a la BU

It’s concerning me that I don’t quite feel the stress and pressure of my three exams coming up next week, especially since I have both organic chemistry and anatomy on Tuesday. I NEED TO BE FREAKING OUT. Fear needs to do its evolutionary job and get me to study like a madwoman.

Don’t worry, mom and pop, I’m studying.

3) “Girls just wanna have fun” was definitely the theme of this past weekend. The Catholic Women’s Group had an epic sleepover on Friday night…

…and then I went to my roommate’s fashion show! I’ve already showed you her model status, but it was so fun seeing her WERK in person.

4) Remember when I told you I joined the Catholic Center intramural softball team just because they needed more girls to play? Well, our team made it all the way to the championship game! We didn’t win it, but I’m thoroughly impressed with the team’s undefeated streak up until that point.

Not that I did anything. I played catcher or far {farrrrrr} right field. Everyone else picked up my slack very well. I thought I hated baseball/softball, but I had— dare I say— fun!

5) In other exciting news, the coolest Asian-Persian-Australian (aka The Big Man’s World) is now in NYC, and I’m so stoked for him!!! Great NYC Food Tour Part 3 {see part 1 + part 2} is in the works.

6) Speaking of other bloggers, the Blend Retreat is in just a couple weeks! As soon as finals are over, I’ll be all about Colorado and Blend.

7) It’s still chilly here in Boston, but the trees are blooming! I feel compelled to take a picture every time I pass by trees that are blooming, even though I’ve already taken half a dozen of the same four trees.

8) Tori Kelly’s new song is so dang groovy and the lyrics are perfect.

You’ll see me hangin’ with my fam, but that don’t mean I’m living in a bubble. You’ll find me at church, but that don’t me I can’t cause trouble.

9) I need to go to bed, so I’m going to stop typing right here. I hope you all have a wonderful day. Listen to music that makes you wanna dance. And then DANCE.

So tell me:

What is one thing that pleasantly surprised you this past week?

What song are you currently loving?

18 Things

Hi there!

I hope you all had a wonderful weekend! Mine was both exhausting and fun— there was a sleepover, waffles, delicious dinner, a dance show (last one EVER), and I turned 18 somewhere in there.

MiMM

Linking up with Katie!

So here are 18 things about my weekend during which I became a legal adult:

1. Moves

After school on Friday, I headed to the gym (there are 3 days left in my membership!) for a workout.

5 min. arc trainer + supersets:

  • 10-12 pistols each leg + 15-20 Bulgarian split squats each leg
  • 20 hamstring ball roll-ins + 30 Bosu lunge hops
  • 20 lunge pulses + 20 single leg bridge pulses each leg

Plus core work!

2. Dance company dinner

At my favorite Japanese restaurant! I got the roll combo with eel avocado, yellowtail, and tuna rolls. They’re all my absolute favorites, so you better believe I finished that whole plate. No sushi left behind.

3. Dance company sleepover

‘Twas a crazy night with 14 girls sleeping over, but it was a blast. We signed T-shirts, screamed Frozen songs at the top of our lungs, and played Cards Against Humanity. Successful sleepover indeed!

4. Epic breakfast

Waking up at 9 AM after going to bed at 3 AM was not ideal on my birthday, but making breakfast (best meal of the DAY) for my best gals was worth it. My super-mom did most of the work though. We have enough waffles and cereal for the rest of the year I think.

The only thing I really did— gluten free banana pancakes.

DSC_8206

Approximately 1/5 of all the waffles we made. {We froze all the leftovers.}

Part of my breakfast: pancakes with Greek yogurt, peanut butter, and maple syrup added later. Heavennnnn.

Thanks so much, mom and pop, for being such generous hosts to all my dance friends!!! It has been requested that you start a hotel service…but I think you’re already there.

5. A nice nap

‘Nough said.

6. Beautiful weather all weekend

Like, perfect.

7. Wonderful Mass with my family

It’s the last week of the Easter season!

8. Awesome birthday texts from my friends

9. Phone call with the brother

So happy that I got to talk with Mr. Penguino.

10. Eighteen burpees

…ya know. I ♥ burpees, so it just seemed appropriate.

11. Amazing birthday dinner

I chose to go to a Latin restaurant called Sonora that my parents had raved about in the past, and it was the BOMB. We all shared a few tapas, a couple entrees, and of course a couple desserts.

12. The waiters sang happy birthday to me really quietly

I was kinda hoping they would have fireworks and a mariachi band though.

13. Best birthday presents ever from Daliza

Cutest collage ever.

Uhhh how cool is this?! She drew the little mascot on there and everything!

The goodies in the box.

Daliza is one of my best friends ever, and this gift meant the absolute world to me. I swear it’s not just because she gave me sunflower seed butter. 😉 I can tell that she put so much effort and thought into it and I appreciate it from the depths of my nut-butter-loving heart. Thank you so much, Daliza!

14. Woke up automatically at 7 AM yesterday morning

My internal clock hates me -_-

15. Watched CrossFit Games while eating breakfast instead of trying to go back to sleep

Bad idea. I was so tired for the rest of the day.

16. Last dance show with my dance school EVER

That sounds more emotional than it was. Yesterday was the show for the younger dance classes in our dance school, so we did perform shortly, but we mostly just helped out backstage. It was a long day.

photo 4

Alison + Allison. Sons.

17. Ate a snickerdoodle

Thanks to my friend Rachel who brought a bunch for us to eat yesterday! Snickerdoodles are my fave.

18. Thanked God

For this weekend and every single person that made it so dang special.

Hello, adulthood! I’m {sorta} ready for you!

So tell me:

What is the best birthday gift you ever received?

Three things you did this weekend!

Thumbs Up, Thumbs Down

Hello!

I might post some Fascinating Friday Links later today, but I thought I’d first share with you some life happenings from the past couple of days! Here are the pros (thumbs up) and cons (thumbs down)…aka the two things that make up this wonderful cocktail of life.

Yesterday was a long day because the music students at my school had a field trip to Lake Compounce (an amusement park) for a music festival where we critiqued and judged.

Thumbs up 👍: Being on roller coasters with my best friends instead of being at school.

Thumbs down 👎: Getting whiplash and nearly crapping myself on some of the rides.

photo 3

The moment at which I thought I was going to die. Then again, I probably make this face at school too.

Thumbs up: Chorus got “Superior” ranking for our performance. That’s right.

photo 4

Thumbs up (or is it thumbs down?): It also took me a whopping two days to stop being sick of ice cream. I know, the long break was just what I needed. 😉

photo-14

Thumbs down: This soft serve was icy and not that good and it was $4!

Thumbs down: My friend Jeannine and I were going to go on a run together on Wednesday, but my exhaustion caused me to bail and skip out on the run. She’s not friends with me anymore.

Jokes. I think.

Thumbs down: I went home to take a nap that day, but I laid in bed my over-tired insomnia for an hour and a half.

Thumbs up: I slept better last night!

Thumbs up: I still got in some moves on Wednesday right in my bedroom. I worked on tons of handstands (which are getting better!), pushups, tricep dips, and I did an ab tabata.

Thumbs up: I’m hosting a HUGE sleepover tonight for all of dance company. That would be 15 girls total in my basement. It’s the seniors’ last one ever (maybe I shouldn’t have said that), but I’m so excited!!! My parents have been so generous in getting everything for snacks and breakfast tomorrow, so I hope these girls have an appetite tomorrow morning! My mom runs this place like a hotel, as you might know.

Thumbs up: Peaches are in season!!!

Thumbs down: It’s nearly impossible to look decent eating good peaches in public since the juice starts running down my arm and getting all over my face. I look like a savage hyena.

Thumbs up: Tomorrow is my birthday!

Thumbs down: I almost forgot about it.

Have a wonderful weekend, everyone!

So tell me:

What are some of your recent thumbs up/thumbs down moments?

Do you like peaches?

Girls’ Nights {MIMM #9}

These past few days have been filled with so many awesome moments with some of my best girl friends! It was such a fabulous privilege to spend time with friends from both school and dance, even amidst a pretty hectic time of year. Many fun things went down this weekend, so let’s get straight into the deeeets:

MiMM

Check out Katie’s blog for more marvelous posts!

Marvelous is…

Hot water bottles. Does anyone else use these?? They are so amazing for when I’m freezing in my house…or in my car as seen in the picture. My mom says it’s like cradling a warm baby. I don’t know about that comparison, but it’s definitely super cozy hugging one of these! (Holding one right now.)

IMG_2557

Marvelous is…

A breakfast party in AP Calc. There’s ten of us in the class and our teacher is awesome–she even made us corn bread! I actually just ate a jumbo corn muffin + corn bread. Obsessed.

IMG_2572

I was literally sitting in the back of the class manning the waffle maker while answering questions about derivatives.

Marvelous is…

Going to a local bakery 20 minutes away with mom just to pick up spur-of-the-moment pastry cravings. She got herself her favorite “Speculaas Bar”–some kind of almond paste pastry that’s only a seasonal product. She let me pick out some macarons for myself and my brother and dad. We also spotted a cute green dome cake, and when we found out it was pistachio and strawberry, we had to get it! Like I said, spur of the moment.

Fig macaron!

Marvelous is…

Going to a(n) gyro restaurant on Friday night with some of my friends from school. Apparently the cross country team has some joke or memory with the place. They always say, “YO GYROOO” or something, so I was excited to visit this place. We also kept going back and forth saying JAI-RO and YEAR-O. The latter is the correct way, right? I usually say year-o, but I decided to say it jai-ro the whole night, and I probably looked like such a novice. Guatever.

Also, $1.00 soft serve from McD’s.

Jeah.

Marvelous is…

Reese’s. After picking them all out from the candy we’re giving out for Halloween, we decided to make a treat using a couple of them. On Thursday night, I made Ben banana soft serve onto which he sprinkled a couple Reese’s and raspberries. I had a couple bites, and it was GOOD STUFF.

 DSC_6585

Marvelous is…

A new PR for 100 burpees! I think this over a minute faster than my the last time I tried it three months ago! Tip: closing your eyes helps you grit through. Ha.

IMG_2586

Marvelous is…

Company sleepover!! Our first sleepover of the year was so much fun! I seriously love hanging out with these girls. We went to dinner at an Asian fusion restaurant, made s’mores, did some company traditions, talked, and LAUGHED a lot.

Before heading to our Sunday rehearsal the next morning (we were zombies upon waking up), Thea’s super sweet mom made us a fantastic brunch of French toast, egg and cheese souffle, fruit, cider, coffee, and tea. DELICIOUS. Beats our usual bagels and cream cheese. Thank you so much, Thea and Co.! 🙂

IMG_2634

Quite a marvelous weekend, I must say. Hope you are all doing well too! Have a great week 🙂

So tell me: What did you do this weekend? When was your last girls/guys night out? How do you say “gyro?”
