The Type of Exercise I Do Not Miss

Thinking-Out-Loud

1) A great moment of judgement from others: When I’m walking through the dining hall wearing my athletic head band, athletic clothes, and athletic iPhone armband all while proudly holding a plate of dessert.

But if you tasted this pumpkin bread pudding [a la mode], you would have #NoRagrets too.

2) My current favorite salad dressing is CREAMY. Creamy honey mustard dressing, to be exact.

Processed with VSCOcam with f2 preset Processed with VSCOcam with f2 preset

I’m not a huge fan of other creamy dressings such as caesar, ranch, thousand island, etc., but honey mustard has a special place in my heart. Side note: The chicken in each of these meals was on point—flavorful and not a workout to chew it.

3) I have not done steady state cardio training (as in, running, elliptical, rowing, stair master, etc. for a longer duration) in several months now, and out of all the types of exercise I used to do, I definitely miss this the least (if at all). In fact, I don’t think I could enjoy doing it ever again.

4) I’d much rather get my heart rate up with burpees or dancing, and I’d rather build my endurance with something like hiking or bouldering (<— stuff is no joke). One of the great things I’ve truly internalized after taking time off of formal workouts this summer is that it’s not worth it to continue exercise that you don’t enjoy.

5) Also, my roommate just convinced me to air squat through a whole song with her in our pajamas. #FunctionalFitnessForFriends

6) I cracked open and ate a whole lobster all by myself for the first time last night!

Processed with VSCOcam with f2 preset

Once every year, the BU dining halls have lobster lobstah night, and since I missed it last year, I made sure to join the festivities this year. It was madness in the d-halls, but it was worth it for this little bugger. Especially followed by this local macintosh apple crisp + oatmeal raisin cookie a la mode.

7) Current jams:

8) I cannot begin to tell you how much I’m loving modern dance class. Even though I’m not planning on pursuing dance professionally, I think I’ve realized that I want to keep dance a part of my life forever. Dance = soul speaking (<— such artist language).

9) If you have a Snapchat… What the heck are those new filters!? Like, those things are straight out of nightmares and horror movies. I just know I’m going to have trust issues opening snaps from now on.

However, I do approve of Daliza’s usage of the filter on Donald Trump.

10) Wishing you all a wonderful day! Happy Pre-Friday 🙂

So tell me:

Do you like steady state cardio?

What is your favorite form of exercise? Dance or fun calisthenic-type stuff for me. Anything that feels more like playing than working out.

Have you ever eaten a whole lobster before?

Have you ever felt judged for eating something unhealthy in your workout clothes?

A Day of Technological Difficulties {and a Day of Eats}

Two songs described my day yesterday: Technologic by Daft Punk and Wobble Baby by V.I.C. (I can explain).

“Technologic” because it seemed like my day revolved around resolving technology issues.

1) Buying a new graphing calculator.

2) Bringing my laptop to the Apple Store to get it diagnosed (it froze and then wouldn’t start up again).

3) Figuring out a small problem with our TV.

#1 and #3 are all fixed now, but #2 was a little more frustrating. I took it to the Apple Store, and it turns out that my laptop’s hard drive is messed up, so I have to get a new one.

Processed with VSCOcam with f2 preset

I lost all the information on my current hard drive, which is not terrible since I backed it up maybe a month or two ago, but I still lost a bunch of photos and my longggg, organized notes for tour guiding that I had worked on all winter break.

Bummer.

That’s where “Wobble Baby” comes in. There is a part in the song where he sings, “make ’em back it up, make ’em back it up.” So that was stuck in my head all day when I realized that I should back up my computer more often.

Despite my disappointment in not backing it up (my computer and my booty), it was still a great and productive day overall. My eats were delicious as a bonus!

Breakfast

I already showed you at the end of yesterday’s post, but my morning meal was this wonderful banana overnight oatmeal smoothie. The recipe is here!

DSC_0722

Plus some pomegranate arils eaten straight up with a spoon.

DSC_0723

Lunch

Back to my staple foods: spinach salad dressed in olive oil, honey, and pepper + avocado toast + two sunny eggs.

DSC_0724

I put the eggs on top of the avocado toast so that the yolk could run onto the toast like a delightful waterfall of liquid sunshine.

DSC_0725

I apologize if you are not a supporter of #yolkporn.

Snacks

We picked up this new Lemon Twist flavor of Sabra hummus, and it is rocking my world. I’m dipping ALL the veggies in it!

DSC_0726 DSC_0727

I also had some Korean pear slices that my mom cut up, but no photographical evidence lives.

Dinner

Since I ate the equivalent of one head of broccoli with that hummus, I only had room for one of mom’s coconut curry chicken drumsticks with bamboo shoots. Taaaaaaasty!

DSC_0728

Dessert

I was also saving room for dessert 😀

Daliza came over (!) and we shared a couple mug cakes that I made — Kylie’s pumpkin mug muffins (makes two, so Pop ate one) and two of Amanda’s banana bread mug cakes (one for mom).

DSC_0732

The perfect, quick treat for a frigid night indeed.

We ended it all with some more pomegranate!

I also finally let Daliza open my birthday gift for her that was delivered to her house two weeks ago. I didn’t let her open it until I got home from Florida because I wanted to be there for the live reaction!

DSC_0729

It’s a personalized pillow with some famous Russell Crowe movie quotes! (Daliza essentially likes to think of herself as Mrs. Crowe.) Can you name some of those movies?

Halfway through the week, folks! I’m cheering for you!

So tell me:

Have you had any technological issues lately?

What is your favorite dip?

Hummus and spinach artichoke dip are my favorites!

Which actor’s/actress’ quotes would you put on a pillow?

Maybe Anne Hathaway (to be honest, just thinking of The Princess Diaries.)

Birthdays, Sushi Nights, and Jack O’ Lantern Blaze {MIMM #11}

Good morning, folks!

Happy Veterans/Remembrance Day to all! Thank you to all those who have put their lives on the line to protect our nations. God bless.

There have been SO many marvelous things happening this weekend, so I’m just going to jump right into it! Thanks, Katie for hosting as always 🙂

Marvelous is…

Ben’s 20th Birthday! I could barely grasp that he was an adult on his 18th…and now he’s two decades old. But he’s still my British-speaking “Mr. Penguin” brother to me 😉

One of Ben’s favorite desserts is cheesecake, so I surprised him last night with homemade banana cheesecake! I was so glad that he liked it. I accidentally decided to give it to him right before his run, so he just shared his slice with me. Works for me!

Marvelous is…

TWO sushi nights! I’m so spoiled. On Friday night, a few of my closest school friends and I went for a girls’ night at my favorite Japanese restaurant upon my recommendation. I ordered my classic favorites: tuna roll and eel avocado. Afterwards, despite the chilly weather, we walked over to Cold Stone for some delicious ice cream. It’s never too cold for ice cream, right?! I ordered a mix two of my favorite flavors— sweet cream and mint— with graham cracker crumbs. My two favorite foods with some of my favorite people = a perfect night!

IMG_2753

Jeannine and Je’lyn! Our friend Veronica was with us as well.

On Saturday night, my family went out to a different Japanese restaurant with none other than….a Groupon. Yep. Still going strong with those. I’m tellin’ ya, “Extreme Grouponers” is looking better and better as a TLC show at this rate.

My mom and I shared a maki combo (tuna, salmon, and yellowtail rolls) and a “Beach Boy” Roll, which had eel and tempura flakes on the inside, and tuna and yellowtail on top. It was fabulous. The sushi quality was amazing, and I would definitely go back there even without the Groupon!

IMG_2759 IMG_2761

Look at how fresh that fish looks!

Marvelous is…

Honeycrisp apples. I cannot get enough! They are perfectly crisp, sweet, and tart.

DSC_6701

Marvelous is…

Ashley’s BBQ Pumpkin Turkey Meatballs! My mom took out a package of ground turkey from the fridge and I asked her what she was going to do with it. She answered, “Just sauté it to have with other things.” But I had been wanting to make Ashley’s meatballs for a while, so I jumped on the opportunity to use the turkey for the recipe. We had leftover pumpkin and some really good BBQ sauce, so we were all set. My mom was cool with that!

DSC_6704

This recipe was super easy and oh soooo delicious, guys. I definitely recommend trying it out! Thanks for the awesome recipe again, Ashley! Everyone in the house loved it.

Mom’s dinner and my dinner

Marvelous is…

The Jack O’ Lantern Blaze! I mentioned last week that Ben and I would be going to this event where there would be some amazing Jack o’ lantern displays (even though it’s after Halloween). It was spectacular! However, there was a little secret that we found out there: almost half of the pumpkins were styrofoam. Oooo…….I know, it bursted my bubble too. It was still impressive nonetheless because everything was still hand carved and super detailed!

Fun stuff!

Well, that about wraps up the highlights of my weekend! Have a great Monday, everyone!

So tell me: What did you do this weekend? What’s your ideal night out?

WIAW: Strange But Good

My fingers and toes are little icicles in this house! My dad tries to set the thermostat really lowwww (like 63 degrees) to save energy, which I’m cool with until my feet start to lose feeling even when I’m wearing socks. Just a little warmer, pa?

At least the cooler weather makes me feel more legit when I eat things like pumpkin, hot oatmeal, and hot soup. This past week has included all of those things, so here we go with another WIAW thanks to Jenn! Again, these are just a bunch of meals/snacks that I’ve noshed on throughout the whole week in no particular order, not just in a day. I go against the rules. I also ate a lot of strange things this week, but of course I thought they were all supah tasty…otherwise I wouldn’t be eating them! Thus, I’m also gonna join in on Laura’s Strange But Good fun.

Breakfasts

DSC_6319 DSC_6320

Pumpkin peanut butter brown rice “pudding.” #Strangebutgood. I just microwaved 3/4 c. brown rice with 1 tbsp pb, ~1/4c. milk, vanilla, cinnamon, nutmeg, and ~1/3c. pumpkin puree. Topped with half a sliced banana and a drizzle of maple syrup!

MY #1 FAVORITE BREAKFAST EVER. Overnight oats in a sunflower seed butter jar. Oh. so. scrumptious.

Lunches

Most of my lunches are at school or dance and have consisted of yummy chicken or turkey sandwiches with an apple on the side.

Snacks

DSC_6561 DSC_6564

My mom picked up pumpkins and other funny-looking squashes to roast, and I have probably eaten my weight in pumpkin the past few days. We didn’t roast that really funky looking squash in the front though. She figured it would work a lot better as a decoration. Besides eating the pumpkin by itself, I’ve also tried eating it with hummus and even Greek yogurt mixed with pepita sunseed butter. Delicious.

DSC_6251

I tried one of these pumpkin spice cookies that I made for our senior class bake sale last week. From a box like a champ.

Still lots of these Costco nut and seed bars. So good!

Dinners

My mom asked me one night to monitor the split pea soup she was boiling. I was doing my homework in the meantime, so I didn’t check it until it was literally split pea chutney….oops. I still ate it like that though. It was really good on toast! I definitely should have just added more hot water like my mom did after she saw my damage. Oh well. Split pea chutney was #strangebutgood.

DSC_6567

Not even close to soup.

DSC_6559

Another dinner was a veggie/cheese wrap that fell apart in the panini maker + BBQ chicken on a bed of spinach

Alright, so there is a sample of my eats for this week, and as you can see, there were many funky food combinations. I never would have been quite this adventurous with my food in the past, but reading blogs has aided in the evolution of my taste buds 🙂

Also, my mom bought my brother and me a big pumpkin for carving! She also bought a couple bags Halloween candy for next week, from which we picked out all the Reese’s (for Ben and me) and Almond Joys (for da ‘rents). We might not finish all of them, but we’re keepin’ a stash just for now 😉

DSC_6572 DSC_6573

Love our Reese’s.

Happy Wednesday!

So tell me: What are some strange but good things you like to eat? What’s your favorite candy?

Weekend Happenings {MIMM #8}

I usually write my posts the night before I post them, but I’m posting this right before leaving for school due to homework, college applications, and no time this weekend to do all of it until last night after dance. This weekend was filled with some pretty marvelous activities though! Thanks, Katie for hosting another fabulous link-up (click on the picture to see more marvelous posts)!

MiMM

Marvelous is…

Senior Blackout Breakfast tailgate last Thursday. It was a really fun and great time and we all got to class within 5 minutes after the bell. But some guys in our grade decided to be super late to class and march around the school chanting…. *sigh* Yeah, we got a firm lecture from our principal. Nevertheless, the breakfast was a blast! #C14ASSY (like, classy)

Cuuuute.

Marvelous is…

Sending in 5 of 7 college applications!! The load is slowly being lifted…for now.

Marvelous is…

Babysitting for my neighbors’ kids. They are so adorable and they keep asking for another “play date.” Melting.

Marvelous is…

Fall food! Roasted pumpkin (thanks, ma!) and split pea soup that my mom told me to monitor, but I let it reduce to like a chutney….whoops. It still tasted delicious, especially with toast.

 DSC_6566 DSC_6567

Marvelous is…

Our varsity boys soccer team winning their homecoming game! The whole school was revved up on Friday night and it was really exciting!

IMG_2542

With Itzel after the victory!

And then going to the diner afterwards with my best friends 🙂

Alright I gotta bolt outta here! Have a marvelous Monday, everyone!

So tell me: What did you do this weekend? Have you been loving fall food?
