Lonely Girl Thoughts

Thinking-Out-Loud

with the amazing Amanda ♥

1) I didn’t make anything red, white, and blue on Fourth of July in Boston, so I made this blueberry strawberry banana bread in muffin form a few days late to celebrate…

…except I didn’t make them to be patriotic at all, I just had all the ingredients and I wanted muffins.

2) My service as a juror is finally finished (for the next 4-6 years at least)! It lasted three days. I can tell you now that the case was pretty minor: a girl and her mother sued the girl’s middle school for employee negligence, which they claimed caused the girl to get injured in gym class. It happened almost four years ago.

3) Although the process was long, slow, and not the most exciting thing in the world, I still walked out with a smile on my face because it was such an interesting process. I literally kept saying to myself, “This is so cool.”

(P.S. Solely based on the evidence provided, the jury’s verdict was in favor of the plaintiff—  the girl.)

4) Speaking of injustices, I was assaulted by a fly on Tuesday night. I was about to dry my hair after my shower when I heard bzzzzzzzzz.

I ran away and turned off the light in the bathroom in an attempt to get it to follow the light into the hallway. It did indeed fly out, but then it flew super close to my ear again and I fell to the floor to avoid it. Yes, ladies and gents, the fly knocked me down.

6) My friend told me that I’m at least twice the size of the fly, so I can take it. I replied that I’m also at least twice the size of HIV, rhinovirus, and pollen, but IT DOESN’T MATTER. They’re still evil.

7) I’m craving saucy meatballs. Luckily I’ll be able to get some at the local church’s Festa Italiana tomorrow!

8) Thank God for technology. I know it’s good to “unplug,” and my mind/body knows when it needs to do so, but social media, music, TV and YouTube are currently keeping me company during my lonely hours.

I miss my friends in Boston. Daliza, come be my friend.

9) I need to manage my time better in the morning. I like taking my time to eat breakfast, catch up on blogs, meditate, and pack lunch in the morning, but more often than not, I’m running out the door because I’m a couple minutes behind schedule. I think I just need to prioritize my tasks before going on the computer.

10) Does anyone ever eat regular yogurt anymore? As in, NON-Greek yogurt? I bought a tub of regular full fat yogurt since the store didn’t have plain full fat Greek yogurt (at a cheap price at least…I love Fage, but my wallet does not).

DSC_1616

To be honest, Dannon regular is only a little thinner than 0% Chobani, but not that much more. The only real difference is the lower protein content, which I know is a deal breaker for a lot of protein fanatics out there. 8 grams of protein in the regular yogurt does the trick for me though!

Hope you all have a fabulous pre-Friday 🙂

So tell me:

How are you with bugs?

I’m craving ______.

Do you ever eat regular yogurt?

Strawberries and Cream for Wimbledon

Jury duty day #2 is ahead of me today!

I added the exclamation point for motivation and positive vibes, because I’m so not looking forward to it. It’s a blessing and a curse to be young and open minded. Mostly a blessing though.

I wish I could tell you guys about the case, but alas, I would be tracked down and killed if I shared anything. (Joking about getting killed, but seriously, I cannot share!)

In other news, Wimbledon (one of the grand slam tennis tournaments) is happening. I haven’t been watching, but I plan on catching as many matches as possible from here on out. I love watching tennis. I’ve never even played, but it’s one of the only sports I actually enjoy watching (others include gymnastics, figure skating, hockey [in person at Boston University only], and soccer [World Cup only…I’m a fake fan]).

I’ve been to the US Open for tennis before, but I think it would be amazing to attend Wimbledon for two reasons:

1) It’s in England.

2) Strawberries and cream is the signature food to eat at the event.

According to this website, the recipe for Wimbledon strawberries and cream is super simple: strawberries with sweet, soft-peaked whipped cream. Classic England being classy.

Today I have a more substantial version of strawberries and cream for you in the form of a smooooothie.

A company called MyProtein kindly sent me a bag of their strawberries and cream protein powder to try, along with a mega jar (40 oz/2.5 lb!) of peanut butter (the way to my heart).

Funny enough, MyProtein is the biggest sports nutrition brand in the UK and Europe. It’s slowly growing in the United States though! In addition to protein powders and nut butters, they sell protein cookies, bars, oats, and supplements.

Now, I am definitely not one to use amino acid supplements or anything like that at all right now (they kinda scare me, tbh). I mostly just use protein powder to make foods like Arman’s cake batter oatmeal, Gina’s cookie dough cereal, energy balls, or substantial smoothies— like this one! Protein powder helps to add calories and satiety to my smoothies.

DSC_1567

The strawberries and cream protein powder is sweet, but not sickeningly sweet. However, it does have quite an artificial flavor. Think Nesquick strawberry milk or Starbucks’ strawberry cream frappuccino. Luckily, I love that flavor, so this was good stuff. Also, the addition of real strawberries to the smoothie helps to liven up the strawberry flavor a bit.

Strawberries and Cream Protein Smoothie

  • 1/2 c. milk (the fattier the better!)
  • 4-5 fresh or frozen strawberries
  • 1/2 frozen banana
  • 1 scoop strawberries and cream protein powder*
  • 3-5 ice cubes

Blend, baby, blend.

*Can sub vanilla protein powder, just add a couple more strawberries.

DSC_1568

Of course, if you’re not into protein powder, you could always just do strawberries with vanilla ice cream too, which is what I ate last night 🙂

Along with a whole lot of drippings from the newly opened and stirred MyProtein peanut butter:

DSC_1601

The verdict? DELICIOUS. It is 100% peanuts, just how I like it (although I’m wondering if it’s lightly salted, because it tastes just as good as salted peanut butter!). All the stick-to-the-roof-of-your-mouth goodness.

I would compare the taste of this peanut butter to Trader Joe’s natural pb, Teddie’s, or Costco natural pb. Maybe a combination of all three.

PSA/BREAKING NEWS: If you mix vanilla ice cream with some cinnamon and a dash of nutmeg (key!), it tastes like EGGNOG. Oh my goodness.

DSC_1604

I’m so excited about this. Eggnog in summer form.

So tell me:

What is your favorite sport to watch? Do you like watching tennis?

Have you ever eaten strawberries and cream (in any form)?

Will you try this eggnog ice cream life hack!?

Disclaimer: MyProtein sent me the protein powder and peanut butter for a review in return. All opinions and content are my own.

Fourth of July in Boston

Coming you today fresh out of one of the best weekends ever!

Fireworks were exploding for Fourth of July, and my heart was exploding with joy from being with people I love so much.

Here’s why this weekend was “one for the books,” in the words of Rachel.

-Overnight oats for the super early train ride into the city.

Processed with VSCOcam with c1 preset

-Smooth and safe bus rides to and from Boston.

-Lunch back at the ol’ Boston University.

-Rachel finding me standing while eating this lunch (four hours on a bus = butt in pain). First words out of her mouth: “You are NOT standing right now.”

-Giving and receiving big hugs from my friends again.

-Praying with my friends. Having friends in faith is inspiration taken to a whole new level.

-A three hour walk around Boston with Rachel just because we had so much to talk about. Love that chick.

-Making pizza balls on the floor of Rachel’s apartment because… #collegestudentlife. The pizza balls were messy and uneven in size/shape, but they were delicious. Two girls, one package of pizza dough, God knows how much cheese, all gone.

-Talking with my friends into the wee hours of the morning.

-Being woken up by sunshine and birds (not ideal at 7 AM, but still a beautiful thing).

-Banana oatmeal with pb made in my friends’ apartment for breakfast.

Processed with VSCOcam with f2 preset

looks like a smaller portion than it actually was, mostly because my spoonful of peanut butter was HUGE

-Spending an absolutely gorgeous day at the beach with some of my favorite people.

-Climbing rocks and playing frisbee on the beach.

-Eating a sandwich on the beach (it’s true, Jen— tastes better on the beach!).

-TORI KELLY CONCERT (with Jeff Leblanc as the opener). She sounds even better live. We got on line kinda late after getting back from the beach, so we could only get a spot in the back (it was general admission).

There was a guy who was at least 6 feet tall right in front me at first, but he realized I was strugglin’ behind him, so he courteously asked if I wanted to switch spots with him. Forever grateful for little acts of kindness like that! Also, the venue is pretty small, so she still seemed so close.

-Not worrying about specific eating times/what exactly/how much I’m eating, and just going with the flow. I snacked my way through dinner between the beach and the concert. Then I had a second dinner with Ben and Rachel after the concert at 11 PM.

-A fabulous Fourth of July: sleeping in, brunch (I ate huevos rancheros for the first time— amazing), watching Black Hawk Down (very violent, cried a bit), a cute apartment dinner, ice cream (PB cookies and cream from J.P. Licks, oh my goodness), and fireworks over the Charles River.

-Cheesy bread to finish off the day.

-Saying goodbye to my friends. WAIT, I’m not being mean. Of course it broke my heart, but my sadness in saying goodbye reminded me that it is a wonderful gift from God to have such incredible friends who I seriously trust with my life.

-Eating this classic lunch upon arriving back home. Avocado toast with sunny eggs and sriracha + leaves salad.

DSC_1595

-Fun things in the mail: new books and snail mail from my friend Emma! I ♥ pen pals.

DSC_1596

-USA Women’s Soccer Team winning the World Cup!

-My parents’ anniversary today! My bro and I are blessed to have parents who display such love and sacrifice for one another and for their children.

-Jury duty today. Not my activity of choice, but hey, might as well continue the proud-to-be-American theme, right?

Wishing you all an awesome Monday! Eat something doughy and cheesy.

So tell me:

American friends, what did you do for the Fourth?

Non-Americans, what did you do this weekend?

Have you ever been summoned for jury duty?
