The Type of Exercise I Do Not Miss

Thinking-Out-Loud

1) A great moment of judgement from others: When I’m walking through the dining hall wearing my athletic head band, athletic clothes, and athletic iPhone armband all while proudly holding a plate of dessert.

But if you tasted this pumpkin bread pudding [a la mode], you would have #NoRagrets too.

2) My current favorite salad dressing is CREAMY. Creamy honey mustard dressing, to be exact.

Processed with VSCOcam with f2 preset Processed with VSCOcam with f2 preset

I’m not a huge fan of other creamy dressings such as caesar, ranch, thousand island, etc., but honey mustard has a special place in my heart. Side note: The chicken in each of these meals was on point—flavorful and not a workout to chew it.

3) I have not done steady state cardio training (as in, running, elliptical, rowing, stair master, etc. for a longer duration) in several months now, and out of all the types of exercise I used to do, I definitely miss this the least (if at all). In fact, I don’t think I could enjoy doing it ever again.

4) I’d much rather get my heart rate up with burpees or dancing, and I’d rather build my endurance with something like hiking or bouldering (<— stuff is no joke). One of the great things I’ve truly internalized after taking time off of formal workouts this summer is that it’s not worth it to continue exercise that you don’t enjoy.

5) Also, my roommate just convinced me to air squat through a whole song with her in our pajamas. #FunctionalFitnessForFriends

6) I cracked open and ate a whole lobster all by myself for the first time last night!

Processed with VSCOcam with f2 preset

Once every year, the BU dining halls have lobster lobstah night, and since I missed it last year, I made sure to join the festivities this year. It was madness in the d-halls, but it was worth it for this little bugger. Especially followed by this local macintosh apple crisp + oatmeal raisin cookie a la mode.

7) Current jams:

8) I cannot begin to tell you how much I’m loving modern dance class. Even though I’m not planning on pursuing dance professionally, I think I’ve realized that I want to keep dance a part of my life forever. Dance = soul speaking (<— such artist language).

9) If you have a Snapchat… What the heck are those new filters!? Like, those things are straight out of nightmares and horror movies. I just know I’m going to have trust issues opening snaps from now on.

However, I do approve of Daliza’s usage of the filter on Donald Trump.

10) Wishing you all a wonderful day! Happy Pre-Friday 🙂

So tell me:

Do you like steady state cardio?

What is your favorite form of exercise? Dance or fun calisthenic-type stuff for me. Anything that feels more like playing than working out.

Have you ever eaten a whole lobster before?

Have you ever felt judged for eating something unhealthy in your workout clothes?

Owning It

Three pieces of “news” for you:

1) I finished a Costco-sized jar of peanut butter [almost] all by myself in less than a month.

finished it off with some [cooled] microwave oats

2) I’m currently eating with chopsticks in the dining hall because Asians are not really a minority at BU, and this dining hall has responded to that.

3) THIS Buzzfeed post about socially awkward introverts hits home like no other.

Do you think trying and crying rhyme because of me?

Now, if you know me in person, you might not immediately call me an introvert. I love talking to people and I even enjoy public speaking. That being said, it takes a great deal of energy for me to be social, and I’m usually quite content eating a meal by myself. (Not just because I was temporarily mortified after last year’s salad explosion.)

In addition to liking my “me time,” my introverted-ness is evident in my straight up AWKWARDNESS around people.

Sometimes, making good eye contact while talking with someone one-on-one is harder than looking into the sun.

When I contribute to a group conversation, I often doubt myself and make my voice progressively quieter and more high-pitched. And then I laugh like a teenage witch.

giphy-3

Sometimes I’m tempted to give up on saying hi to people in large groups.

Keeping up with conversation without falling into boring small talk can result in me making many sentences and gestures that make no sense at all.

giphy-4

[source]

But I’ve realized a few things:

a) If I let the awkward things come and go and pretend that I don’t feel my soul isn’t shriveling into itself, the awkwardness usually subsides more quickly.

b) The only way people can laugh WITH you is if you laugh at yourself.

c) Confidence really is the best thing you can wear.

d) Nobody cares that much about what I do or say. No one judges me harder than I judge myself.

e) I’m not alone in all this.

So that time I nearly smash my butt slipping down the stairs behind a girl I don’t know…

…or that time I didn’t know what to say at the end of a group prayer except, “and… thank you.”…

…or those multiple times when my brain and mouth do not collaborate properly, and. I. just. talklikethisbecausemywords.don’t.work…

I’m just gonna own it.

In other news, I’m going to the gynecologist again early this morning. I think we’ll be going over test results from last week and possibly doing some other tests. Thank you all again for your support and prayers!

And here are some eats from this week. I’ve been more a three square meals kinda gal lately with class scheduling and such. Therefore, each meal is pretty epic.

Hope you all have a fabulous Friday and a great weekend ahead!

Any awkward antics?

Any recent embarrassing stories you’re willing to share?

It’s Difficult to Eat Tacos With Good Manners

Thinking-Out-Loud

thanks for hosting the partay, Amanda ♥

1) I’m mighty happy that the WIAW switch-up with Gemma yesterday was so well-received! Thanks a ton for your comments (as always). I enjoyed going out of my blogging comfort zone by collaborating with such a cool gal! Thanks again, Gemma!

2) Corn on the cob. How do you feel about it? People say it’s a quintessential summer BBQ food, and I guess I agree, but I’m not head over heels for it. Stuff also gets stuck in your teeth when you gnaw it off the cob. HOWEVER, when you cook it in milk and butter with a sprinkle of sea salt (as suggested by Jo)…then I’m like a woodchuck eating the corn off the cob.

3) My tailbone has been hurting and I have no idea why. It started out as almost a relieving feeling whenever I sat down after standing for a while, but now it just hurts. A good ol’ Google search gave me the 411; My pain could be due to pressure, injury, childbirth, or a tumor.

I like to think that the cause is pressure or injury, but who knows? My dad might be suspicious that I birthed a baby.

4) Back to food. I had the most barbaric eating experience of my life last night, thanks to these lettuce wrap tacos.

DSC_1764

this x4

Attempt to wrap the darn (delicious) thing ➔ stuff falls out and juice starts rolling down my arm. Bite the darn (delicious) thing ➔ stuff falls onto the plate/table and all over my face. Try to get a bite of tomato, cheese, meat, barley, lettuce, greek yogurt, and cheese all in one bite ➔ end up getting some of my hair in my mouth and looking like a squirrel packing acorns in its mouth.

Tacos are worth it. (Next time, real tortillas. We just didn’t have any this time.)

5) I ate this dinner in complete solitude, so I didn’t scar anyone for life with my horrendous manners, in case you were concerned.

6) Speaking of acorns though… I’m excited for autumn now! Our summer was fairly mild overall, but a few cooler days that we’ve had recently are leaving me longing for cool, crisp temperatures. I know Amanda agrees with me on this one 🙂

DSC_1762

yesterday’s breakfast made me think of autumn too

7) Speaking of fall… Move-in day for college is in less than two weeks. I wanna scream and shout and let it all out—the nervousness, the excitement, the EVERYTHING.

8) I feel like I need to unplug from reading blogs and from blogging in order to get everything on my to-do list done every day, but I like you guys a lot, so it’s hard.

9) I’ve developed a new “beauty mark” (or sun spot?) on my arm, and I’m trying really hard to accept the fact that it’s now a part of me, especially as my thumb birth mark starts to disappear. Out with the old, in with the new?

DSC_1765 DSC_1766

superbly dry hands = story of my life

Is this a sign? A symbol for a new chapter in my life? What is the MEANING?

9) Totally kidding about the meaning. I couldn’t really care less.

10) Dad and I are headed up to Ontario on Saturday to visit my relatives for the weekend! Road triiiiip (<— said in the most white girl accent imaginable)!!!

Hope you all have a fantastic day! Keep your head up, it’s almost Friday 🙂

So tell me:

Do you like corn on the cob?

Do you ever eat something so messily that you question your civility?

Have you ever developed new beauty marks or have you ever lost birth marks?

Fascinating Friday Links #23

Hey, would ya look at that? It’s Friday!

With only two and half days of school this week, I actually think my “week” starts now. My weekends are just as busy (if not, more) than my week days. At least next Friday is the start of our winter break! As if we haven’t had enough breaks this winter….Not complaining AT ALL.

I started watching the Olympics last night, and I’m already exited for what’s to come! The winter Olympics are definitely less popular than the summer ones, but I’m partial to the figure skating since I used to be a competitive figure skater. I also love watching skiing and speed skating because those can get intense!

Alright, well there are a ton of awesome links that I have to share with you all today! Enjoy the 23rd weekly Fascinating Friday Links!

Behind the Scenes #8: Twitter Fever

Good morning!

It’s been a couple weeks since I’ve joined Amanda’s Thinking Out Loud linkup, so I’m more than glad to be joining it this week!

Thinking-Out-Loud

1. Today is our first full day of school this week. It’s weird. As fun as it is to stay at home all day, I kind of want to get back into a routine, especially since our winter break is in less than two weeks. If we keep having snow days, there will be no sense of differentiation and sheer joy once break comes around, ya know?

2. I never used to like Twitter because it stressed me out. All I saw were these random thoughts to absorb (….like this post….), and I just never cared for it that much. Up until 3.5 days ago, I really only used Twitter as a means to share my own blog posts or others’ blog posts. However, if you follow me on Twitter, you may have noticed that I’ve stepped up my game.

Screen Shot 2014-02-05 at 6.38.11 PM Screen Shot 2014-02-05 at 6.38.24 PM Screen Shot 2014-02-05 at 6.38.54 PM

I don’t know what got to me but the Twitter fever is gettin’ real. Or I’m gettin’ obnoxious. It’s guatever either way.

3. Staying on the topic of social media— Facebook users, do you love those new story videos like I do?? I mean, I just clicked on the link and then there was a cute little video that summed up some of my favorite pictures and statuses on Facebook. Honestly, I almost cried when I was watching my friend’s video. The music, the pictures, and the nostalgia was all too sweet to handle. I’m not sensitive or anything. Nice job, Mark Z.!

4. I’m wearing shorts right now (while also wearing a sweatshirt), which shows that I want it to be spring pretty badly apparently. Oh, and Dad just asked me to go outside to get the mail…I’m up for the challenge. (Just kidding, he went to go get it before me. Thanks for saving my legs from freezing, pa!)

5. If you’re a fan of witty and funny things, I highly recommend this blog called I Think in Comics. The author is actually my brother’s friend from Northeastern University, so college students would especially appreciate her humor. I literally laugh out loud every time I read her posts. She is such a talented cartoonist. She’s also Asian, and Asians rule.

Screen Shot 2014-02-05 at 7.38.49 PM

6. I had my first kale salad ever yesterday, and it was pretty good! I don’t mind the bitter flavor like some others might, so I ate it raw. I just massaged in some maple dijon dressing and added salmon and brussels sprouts. It’s definitely more of a jaw workout when eating kale rather than spinach (maybe I needed to massage it more), but I hope to experiment a little more with the most famous green in the HLB world.

DSC_7560

Buttered parmesan potato bread on the side 😀

7. I am currently obsessed with this song by The Jakes (aka former Young the Giant). Thanks to my friend Daliza for introducing this ear candy to me. 😉

8. I wish scones could keep longer, but the truth is that they get crusty and dry if not eaten the day they’re made. Warming them up in a damp paper towel helps a wee bit, but they’re still not to their highest scone potential.

9. Would anyone happen to know a possible cause for a grinding shoulder joint? That sounds really nasty, but for the longest time, my left shoulder has not only been tight, but whenever I roll it or circle my arm, there is a grinding sensation (and sound). Like, there’s no lubrication for the joint. It doesn’t really hurt though, and my right shoulder is fine. All I know is that it hurts when I sleep on my left side (which my body just loves to do while I’m sleeping). I haven’t been lifting weights recently either, but the grinding did start before I stopped lifting.

According to Google, this problem may result in not being able to move my shoulder ever again. Cooooool. I feel like Jo in that every Google diagnosis I find makes me think my body is falling apart.

h571ADE77

[source]

10. Andddd you probably don’t care about my shoulder issues. That’s okay, because I obviously didn’t care enough to bring it up until several months after the problem started….I hope you all have a wonderful day! Stay safe and warm (watch out for the black ice)!

So tell me:

Do you like using Twitter?

Are you a fan of kale?

Do you have any similar joint issues? Any idea why my shoulder is grinding?
