Is Boston Home Now?

Monday funday! (ha.)

We’re back to the grind here at Boston University, and I’m kind of happy about that. Although we only drove back and forth between Boston and New York, I felt wonky and jet-lagged back at home. When I arrived back in Boston last night, I couldn’t help but feel like BU was “home.” It’s where I have a routine, most of my belongings that I use on a regular basis, lots of friends, work, school…

It’s just weird to think that I’ve become attached to Boston already. I don’t know how I feel about that, but I’m just goin’ with the flow.

Nevertheless, I had a wonderful time in New York as I got to take naps, cook, eat some scrumdiddlyumptious breakfasts, and see family and friends again. I didn’t see everyone I wanted to see, but five days goes by a lot more quickly than you would think! My first reunion was with my fellow former dance company member, Susie! We caught up on life over some dang good peppermint tea. The tea warmed my belly as the conversation and company warmed my heart. ♥ {it’s easy being cheesy}

It’s also easy being green. I thoroughly took advantage of the avocado toast, green smoothies, and brussels sprouts at home. Mm mm good.

Oh and Madre’s cooking hit the spot every single time.

She’s my hero.

On Friday I met up with the one and only “core four” for breakfast at the exact same restaurant as where we said our goodbyes before going off to college. How precious!

I ate a huge meal there because I was hungry and it was delicious. I had a big, fat Greek omelet that included spinach, tomatoes, and feta. It came with breakfast potatoes and whole wheat toast, and I pretty much housed all of it. I don’t play when it comes to my favorite meal of the day.

Later on Friday night, I found this idea of placing leftover stuffing + egg in waffle maker. B.r.i.l.l.i.a.n.t. (I have no idea why I put periods in between each letter there, but I already did it. So be it.) But seriously, which one of you stuffing lovers wouldn’t absolutely adore crispy-on-the-outside stuffing in the shape of a waffle??

DSC_0488 DSC_0485

C’mon now.

And if you don’t have a waffle iron, I would still approve of stuffing muffins. The real goal is to just maximize the surface area of crispiness.

I saw Daliza on Saturday and it didn’t even feel like a reunion because of her epic surprise two weeks ago. But we had a lovely time together as we always do! We don’t even need to take a picture together for proof. 😉

Sunday morning breakfast. Amanda’s banana bread breakfast bake OMG DO IT.

Then Sunday came and it was time to drive back up to Boston in some dreadful traffic. We rewarded ourselves with rockin’ ramen and bubble tea once we arrived after the 5.5 hour drive though!

I miss home in New York, but I’m happy to be back in Boston, and I’m torn as to which place I really want to be at right now. Home is where I’m with people who make me smile and thrive, so I guess I am blessed to say that both NY and Boston are my homes.

I hope you all have a marvelous day! Hug a bunch of people…just because.

What It Feels Like To…

College is all about new experiences. We have the big ones like moving into the dorm, joining new clubs, passing those incredibly difficult exams, and graduating (whoa, far into the future, eh?). But we also have all the little ones in between. This weekend I reflected on some of the small, new things I experienced, both good and not so good.

After this past week, I now know what if feels like to…

Have Thanksgiving dinner before Thanksgiving day.

It feels kinda wrong, but oh so right. Thank you, dining halls!

pumpkin pie + white chocolate cranberry cookie!

Cook a steak.

I felt so flustered. Have you ever thought about how you might feel if you were thrown into the show Chopped and you got choked up? Yeah, this was that feeling.

The people for whom I work asked me to cook up two steaks that they had in the freezer and I agreed since they had so much faith in me. LOL.

I was looking up “how to cook steak” and “how to defrost frozen steak” on my phone and trying to decide the best/safest ways to do both and ahhhhhhhhhh. I think I did okay with the defrosting and the initial sear on the steaks, but then I overcooked the steaks in the oven. I gave them well done when they requested rare and medium rare. *facepalm*

They said it was really good, but I think they were being nice. Maybe the baked potatoes and tuna salad I also made for them redeemed me.

This was actually delicious!

Be at a hockey game where Boston University Terriers pull out an awesome win!

So much pride.

We won 3-2 against University of Maine at overtime!

Watch a quality romantic comedy.

ALL THE FEELS. I watched About Time with a bunch of friends on Saturday night, and it might be one of my new favorite movies. Watch it if you have not yet!

Have America’s Next Top Model as a roommate.

It’s fantastic for the self-esteem, really. (jokes jokes.)

(I also know what it feels like to basically have a pro photographer as a friend!)

She might not actually be America’s Next Top Model, but she totally could be, right?! She modeled for a fashion show this weekend and I heard many rave reviews that she killed it on the runway. Evidently. I live in the same room as this beautiful person!!!

Run five miles.

Besides feeling kinda uncomfortable because I needed to go to the bathroom the whole time, I felt amazing! That’s the longest I’ve run without stopping to date. Yay!

IMG_1903

I started the GPS about ½ a mile into my run, so the 5 miles were hit, I promise!

Oh, and for the record, a “running high” is quite similar to a burpee high… But the view and fresh air that comes with running is a wonderful bonus 🙂

Pay over $3.00 for just the dry cycle for my laundry.

That feeling would be rage-y.

One extra long cycle apparently wasn’t enough for my load of laundry (which wasn’t especially large or anything), and I was still left with super damp clothes by the end of it. I contemplated air drying it all, but there’s no space in the dorm for that and all the clothes were too wet anyway. Thus, I bit the bullet and paid for another full dry cycle. That totaled to $4.75 for laundry.

Life.

So there you have it! Some of my latest and greatest new experiences!

Something I’ve been thinking about doing is posting shorter yet more frequent update/musings kinds of blog posts instead of longer, spaced out dump-my-life-on-you posts. I don’t want to sacrifice quality for quantity, but I’m hoping to spark interesting conversations about things that pop up during my day that I find worthwhile putting into a post. Does that make sense?

Basically, I want to try to post more often with less content (unlike this lengthy, random post) while having a more specific focus in each post. If that still doesn’t make sense, then we’ll just see how this all unfolds, won’t we?

Have a marvelous Monday, friends! I’m going home for Thanksgiving tomorrow what whattttttt.

So tell me:

After this weekend, I now know what if feels like to_________.

Do you like tuna salad?

(I can post the recipe for the tuna salad I made if ya want! It’s pretty bomb if I do say so myself.)

I Was a Twerking Grandma This Weekend

…and I was loving every minute of it.

I grew a booty bigger than Nicki Minaj’s overnight (right, Arman?) just so I could be a grandma for Halloween. It took a lot of squatting and cinnamon rolls.

As much as I like that explanation, you might be more inclined to believe that my roommate had a few of those packaging bubble/balloon things and came up with the idea that I should put them inside my shorts underneath my dress to make it look like the earth revolved around my derrière.

She’s brilliant! I was on a determined mission to find a costume that required minimal effort and $0, and I must say that I’m pretty proud of what we came up with. Perhaps this also means that I own a lot of grandma-oriented things.

But yes, that was my Halloween. I had a pretty awesome time bumping into people with my tush and attempting to twerk at the Catholic center party. I literally danced my booty off (I took out the bubble packaging halfway through the party), ate way too many pita chips (I don’t think I had a single piece of candy— just cookies), and got to spend time with some of my best pals. Then I slept for 9 hours, which made me young and fresh again.

On Saturday night, I played some indoor sports with friends. I showed off my talent of not being able to dribble a soccer ball effectively, but my friends were nice and still let me play. My accomplishment was making two shots into the basketball hoop using the soccer ball, which is lighter and easier to manage than a real basketball, but at least my hand-eye coordination is somewhat existent.

Then I went to my first Boston University hockey game ever (and probably my second hockey game in general)! I didn’t get to stay for the whole game, but we were not doing so hot against Providence when I left. 😦

quality Asian friend time

It was also superhero night at this particular hockey game, so my friend Liz dressed up as Catwoman. Killed it.

The rest of my weekend consisted of studying, Sunday Mass, resting, and witnessing Boston’s first snow of the season! It was super wet and huge snow, so none of it stuck to the ground, but it was still an exciting event for the population.

I had much more than my fair share of sugar this weekend, but like I said before, none of it was in the form of candy. I just chose to get my sugar high on things like cookies and anything fruit crisp-y…a la mode of course!

‘Twas a marvelous weekend indeed, and you should go over to Katie’s blog if you want to see what other people are finding marvelous this Monday!

I hope you all have a rockin’ day!

House Project Weekend

Hey!

Despite the weekend posting, I haven’t been updating you on what’s been moving and grooving over here the past few days. It’s been hectic, but marvelous-hectic.

Thursday

We’re starting all the way from Thursday this time! Thursday is like the new addition to the weekend, right? Anticipation for Friday?

Moves: A lower body workout with pistol squats, Bulgarian split squats, sumo squats, and elevated bridges. I used light weights, but my legs were still trembling! Totally not used to anything but bodyweight…

How I feel at the bottom of a pistol squat

I babysat for a few hours, during which I walked down memory lane (aka Sesame Street), picked up chicken nugget pieces, and chased around this cute little munchkin.

Later, mom and I went to church, and then I got crafty.

DSC_0407

My aunt gave me the nice frame, which came with a code for a free collage that I could create online, and I made the pink poster myself. Mom said my poster was “crusty” due to the good ol’ Elmer’s glue. I say it’s rustic!

Friday

This past Friday could also be known as “move ALL THE THINGS day” in our house. Not only was I finally starting to pack clothes and books for college, but mom and I moved all the furniture and objects from the rooms upstairs to the main floor. This happened because mom is renovating the rooms with some new floors and painted walls. The current 12-year-old stained carpets and scraped walls just aren’t that cute anymore.

photo 3

Sorry the panda pillow pet is mooning you

In the process of getting something from the top shelf of my closet, I bonked my head really hard on the edge of the door post. I have a hard head, but I stepped up quite quickly and forcefully, so it hurt pretty badly. There’s a tender bump on my skull, but now I have an excuse if I start acting giddy and loopy!

Ice ice baby

Some walking and fresh air helped!

photo 5

My quads were toast from my workout the day before, so walking down the stairs at the park was the hardest part of my day. Going down is deceivingly difficult with sore legs! It was even more comfortable walking uphill than walking on a level path.

Saturday

More furniture moving and treasure-finding while organizing our things {treasures = a bunch of cookbooks}!

Moves: unscrewing things from the walls (serious arm workout with those stubborn screws!), moving furniture, pushups, and an 8-minute ab tabata

After I ran some errands, mom and I went to choose the new paint color for the walls. We got a color called “Beach House,” so I’m hoping it feels tropical in here when I get back from chilly Boston. 😉

photo 2 copy 3

I went out to dinner with my friends that night and we had some awesome laughs and conversations. I had a monster Thai Chicken salad that was drowned in sauce, so the dressing was completely unnecessary.

photo 1 copy 4

We had a fun night!

Sunday

7 hours of painting.

picstitch

Paint in my hair, paint in my eyelashes, paint in my underwear.

A break was taken to nourish ourselves, buy extra paint brushes, and detour to buy ice cream for the apple pie we bought from a church fundraiser. Painting all day is tiring, so I’d say this was a well-deserved treat!

DSC_0412

Although, I still would have had it whether I painted all day or not.

Now that our rooms are all filled with paint fumes, we’re having a slumber party in the basement! I think the fumes already started affecting me though, because I was extra giggly last night. Or maybe it’s my head still.

Hope y’all have a great Monday!

So tell me:

One thing you did this weekend!

Have you done any house projects recently?

What were your moves this weekend?

Productive Weekend

Hello!

Productive weekends are almost as awesome as do-nothing weekends. Although, I’m still on summer break, so there’s no real differentiation between the weekend and weekdays…

MiMM

Productivity is marvelous!

On Friday, I took an active rest day, but I still managed to tire myself out with errands, chores, and cooking. I just want to be a house mom, that’s really it. I feel like I could do those kinds of things all day, every day and be alright. I mean, I don’t have kids, so that’s a probably a major factor in why I’m so zealous about it at the present moment.

Some highlights:

photo 1 copy

Eating lunch on a yoga mat on the floor while watching cooking channels on YouTube.

I wasn’t feeling too civilized, so I just called it casual Friday.

Headstanding! I got the beginner version finally thanks to Erin @ The Almond Eater’s tips.

It took me a while to figure out that it’s a good idea to warm up your core before doing a headstand/handstand, so an 8 minute ab tabata did the trick beforehand.

DSC_0339

Making Kylie’s peanut butter cookie banana chia seed pudding.

This is so good. And healthy! I even got an extra workout because I was too lazy to take out and clean the food processor to make oat flour, so I used this ancient, manual crusher-ma-bob.

DSC_0336

I wouldn’t say it became oat flour, but more like oat bran. Oh well. Texture! Fiber! Digestion!

photo 2 copy

Ice cream and a long walk with Jeannine and Veronica at the local creamery (we missed you, Je’lyn!).

P.S. I had Cap’n Crunchberry ice cream and it was awesome.

We also had Indian food, compliments of Groupon (it’s back in action!). I ♥ the saucy richness of Indian food…and nan!

DSC_0347

My cousins, aunt and uncle also arrived yesterday! They’re here for a couple days only, but I always love spending time with them.

More company also means more food at my mom’s bed and breakfast.

aug grill

Grilled everything + more + a little bit more. Thanks, Mom!

I had fun making Jessica’s whole wheat banana bread with cinnamon coconut streusel for dessert, but I had an even better time eating it. 😀

banana coco bread

I can’t wait to have more.

Re-reading this post, it doesn’t seem like I was any more productive that usual, but I promise that I did more than make food and eat it. The rest of the weekend was dedicated to cleaning (I even volunteered to vacuum, what?) and college preparations.

Buying college books: Dad said it’s like the Mafia. All the book companies want is money (LOTS of it), but you can make deals with other sites and people to spend less. Thank God for Amazon.

Dorms: I’ve just started to think about how to decorate my dorm room, and I already give up. Let’s face it, my room is just not going to look like the coveted Pinterest dorm rooms.

Too much effort.

Color scheme? I’ve lived in a baby pink room for the past 10 years; color isn’t my main priority at this time in my life. The most I’m doing is making a photo collage on a rectangular poster board. Done and done.

Hope you all have a wonderful day!

So tell me:
