The Weekend That Didn’t Feel Like a Weekend {MIMM #5}

The title makes it sound like I did not have a marvelous weekend, but I assure you I did! It was just packed with things to do:

  • Homework. Blah.
  • College application fun
  • Assisting dance class
  • Taking dance class
  • Planning/teaching religious education
  • Company rehearsal
  • More homework

Some more leisurely things that went down include a workout at the gym, a nap, watching home videos, and watching the Great Food Truck Race (next weekend is the finale!).

Marvelous is...

A kick-butt workout from Jess:

I used a 12 kg (~26 lb.) kettle bell, and those single arm overhead walking lunges were tough! I ended up modifying them to overhead reverse lunges using two arms. Oof. Another awesome workout, Jess!

Marvelous is…

Assisting a younger dance class for the first time this year! Thea is assisting with me, and we are super excited to work with the girls because they are seriously some of the cutest, most talented dancers.

Marvelous is…

Wheat Thins. My family has been hooked ever since my mom came home with three boxes from Costco. We’ve tried the sun-dried tomato basil kind, original, honey mustard, and zesty salsa varieties so far. We’re starting to hoard them at this point. All of them are so dang addicting! We literally polished off our first box of honey mustard Wheat Thins in one day. It’s kind of ridiculous, but when you try this combo, you’ll understand:

And no, Wheat Thins are not necessarily a quality snack, but they’re not too shabby. Plus, they’re just tasty. Ben claims that they’re good for you though because of the “100% whole grain” plastered on the side of the box. He thinks what he wants 😉

Marvelous is…

Bath and Body Works’ Lavender Vanilla pillow spray and lotion. I absolutely love lavender and vanilla, and the scent is so calming.

Using romaine instead of spinach in my green smoothie since that’s all we had on hand. It was a little more “green” tasting, but still quite subtle. I don’t mind a little earthy flavor anyway 🙂

A Korean BBQ dinner compliments of mom and HMart! Complete with beef, pork, shrimp, mystery fish balls (those get less and less appealing every time buys ’em), tofu, vegetables, and soba noodles. Delicious! Thanks, ma!

Intimidated

Good evenin’!

Hope you all had an awesome Friday! Mine was pretty productive yet relaxing. I was going to go to the city with some of my best friends, but I ended up being a baby and staying home because I was tired. I’m lame. But as much as I wanted to hang out with them, I think my body appreciated the rest (even if it was only a 45 minute nap).

Lunch

Mom made some fabulous seafood paella in the rice cooker!

It was a tasty combo of shrimp and fish balls. As in fish “meat”balls. Not…something else. I’m sure you’re just enticed right about now. They’re good though! Even if it is pretty much the mystery meat of the sea. Ignorance is bliss!

My day consisted of finishing up some summer work, working on college applications, blog reading (duh), and a nice workout!

Moves

20 minutes on the elliptical followed by my favorite leg workout from Julie at Peanut Butter Fingers! This always makes my legs feel like they’re going to fall off, but today it felt slightly easier. I think I can increase the weight for my squats, but I’m facing a small dilemma. See, I use the small barbells from the curl rack to do my squats since I’ve never been brave enough to go to the squat rack (partially because I don’t want to see guys from my school there–walkawaywalkawaywalkaway). However, it’s getting harder for me to clean and press the heavier barbells over my head just for squats, which is why I want to try using the squat rack so I can increase the weight without worrying about getting the weight over my head.

I’m not usually one to care what anyone thinks of me when I go to the gym (ya know, since I look like I’m 12 years old), but when it comes to using machines, I like to know what I’m doing for safety and for the sake of not embarrassing myself. I’m intimidated by the squat machine for the following reasons/uncertainties:

  • The bar is usually set too high for me to un-rack it
  • Is the bar 45 lbs. by itself? Yes, right?
  • “Wait, this IS the squat rack, right?” (<–kidding, I’m not that lost 😉 )
  • I’m afraid of making people wait. I’m not used to this pressure!

Obviously, I will ask one of the professional trainers for help if and when I DO decide to use the squat rack. It will happen one day. ‘Twill.
