25 Things You Probably Don’t Know About Me

You know what hurts a lot?

Stubbing your toes. I get bruises, cuts, bumps, and scrapes all the time, but nothing hurts quite like when your poor little piggies get assaulted by a coffee table’s leg.

I bring that up because I just collapsed on the couch wailing at the world after stubbing my toe, while my brother and dad were watching the Democratic National Convention. They didn’t pay any attention to me, so I’m pleading for belated consolation.

On a happier note, today I’m doing a light-hearted survey that I found on Hayley’s blog a while ago. I’ve had deep thoughts for the past few posts, so this is a little break for me (and you). And who doesn’t love a good survey!?

25 Things You Probably Don’t Know About Me

Emphasis on “probably”, because Lord knows that I share about 90% of my life and thoughts on this blog.

1. I’m happiest when I’m praying in front of the Blessed Sacrament…

 2. especially if it’s on retreat. Truly a glimpse of Heaven.

3. I’ve always wanted to lay outside somewhere quiet and dark and stare at the stars with someone I love. Also to see the Northern Lights.

4. My family and I have a tradition of “the family hug”, in which we say “one, two, three, SQUEEZE”, subsequently squeezing each other in a four-way hug. Repeat for a total of three squeezes and then kiss one another on the cheek.

5. I was a terrible thrower. Still can’t really aim/follow through with any sort of projectile object.

6. My first job was searching and entering addresses into a spreadsheet for my dad.

7. I could probably eat (besides peanut butter and bananas) a sandwich every day.

8. I wish I could bring all my Boston friends to Dublin with me this fall. </3

9. I was born on the same day as Brooke Shields.

10. My all time favorite films are Anne of Green Gables, The Help, and The Princess Diaries.

11. I do a pretty mean British accent (but not on the spot, so don’t ask me to do it if you see me in person).

12. I’m still mad that I didn’t keep up my rigorous stretching after figure skating and high school dance.

13. I met my husband…  Did I!?

14. I always knew I wanted to pursue a job related to human movement. I wanted to be a dance choreographer (among other things) before gaining interest in physical therapy.

15. I’m not afraid to be vulnerable. I wasn’t always unafraid of vulnerability though! I credit a lot of good people at college for changing me.

16. I make the best overnight oats, yogurt bowls, and avocado egg toast (because I can’t actually come up with my own recipes for much).

17. I have absolutely no patience for rudeness toward anyone who is genuinely trying his/her best to provide good customer service.

18. I always cry when there is a sky full of stars (cue Coldplay).

19. I’m overwhelmed by the possible ways by which I can finish this sentence.

20. I spent 2 years playing lead roles in my middle school musicals. I was Molly in Annie, Jr. in 7th grade and Jasmine in Aladdin, Jr in 8th grade.

too small to fill out the scandalous “belly shirt” = wrinkly Jasmine

 21. I wish that every person had sufficient and convenient access to fresh water. (Ya know what, I’ll say what Hayley said: “I wish…everyone in the world had enough food, water, and shelter. And love.”)

22. At age 5, I was deeply in love with my Sailor Moon CD. I would sing and dance to the songs in my parents’ gigantic bathroom in Kansas, and Ben would film me. Video evidence is strictly confidential.

23. I believe if people took time to learn the complete truth before making judgements, the world would be a better place. Seeking truth will lead to Truth (aka God), and there would be a greater sense of understanding and peace in the world.

24. I can’t stand port-a-potties. I choose the woods over a port-a-potty any day.

25. Whenever “Can’t Stop the Feeling” by JT or “Let It Go” by James Bay is on the radio, I listen (changed this one, because I don’t really watch TV, but I listen to music like it’s my job).

And this isn’t a fun post without some recent food photos!

Five Minute Friday #6: I Bet You Didn’t Know…

Someone make a meme out of this, please.

IMG_0573

WHY DON’T I HAVE A BOYFRIEND!?

We did the VO2max unit in exercise physiology lab last night, and I volunteered as tribute. Getting into that contraption was more exercise than the test itself, because the cycle erg never even increased resistance, so I was at a pretty low VO2 by the end of the test. Oh well. The hardest parts were the initial panic of having my nose plugged and then the fact that my butt was hurting like a !@#$% on that bike.

But it was fun!

In other news, spring break starts today! It was a pretty chill week for me this week, since all my midterms were last week. It was actually pretty hard for me to find motivation to do things since I didn’t have any imminent deadlines or exams this week.

So instead of doing work, I did things like take selfies in the 50 degree weather…

IMG_0547

…had a lot of meal dates and awesome conversations with friends…

I really love my friends ♥︎

…and don’t worry mom and dad, I did do lots of work 😀

Today’s Five Minute Friday is lighthearted! If you’ve been reading my blog for a while, you probably know a lot about me, but here are some things I bet you didn’t know! (Inspired by Tina’s post)

link to the video here!

Hope you all have a marvelous weekend! Don’t forget to laugh at yourself.

So tell me:

A fun fact about yourself!

Have you ever done a VO2max test?

What are you doing this weekend? Driving home with a couple of my good friends and just chillin’ out with the fam/doing homework/sleeping!

Friday Fun(ny) Facts

And then there were three…

We helped move Ben back into his apartment in Boston yesterday since he starts classes on Monday, leaving Pop, Madre and me at home. It’ll be my turn to go back to Boston in 8 days!

IMG_8016

not in this weather though…

For this Friday’s post, I’m sharing some random fun/funny facts about this week!

1) I accidentally discovered a way to make my eyelashes look fabulous. First of all, I have super short, straight eyelashes that point forwards and sometimes downwards (#AsianProblems). Mascara helps, but it’s still usually hard to see those little stinkers.

Processed with VSCOcam with f2 preset

Example.

Last week, when I was roasting baby potatoes for our New Year’s Eve dinner, I opened the oven to check on them and hot air/steam blasted my face. It kinda hurt and I felt something weird happen to my eyelashes. I feared they might have burned off or something, but when I checked in the mirror, it looked as if I just used the best eyelash curler in the world. The hot air seemed to have “ironed” my lashes upward (I was also wearing mascara).

Lesson: I need to put on mascara and then nearly burn my face to get nice-looking eyelashes. (Nah.)

2) I attempted to make lava cake for Madre, but it ended up being…cake. With a weird texture.

DSC_2079

I think I scrambled the egg in the stovetop portion of the recipe. At least it tastes good (to a chocolate-lover)!

3) I decided to run on Wednesday night, and I kept passing a couple ladies walking their dogs whenever I looped around. One of the ladies said, “You’re fast!” Hahaha that’s new. She was being quite generous because I was going at, like, 10:00 pace. But I still appreciated the encouragement!

4) I ate peanut butter with chopsticks.

IMG_9753

Long story short: I needed something to eat, there was nothing else to eat in the car, and there were no spoons around. Thankfully, Madre carries chopsticks in her purse.

5) Ben’s apartment is on the fourth floor of his building. There are no elevators in his building. I’ll leave it at that.

We did fuel very well the night before with a lovely family dinner at a place called Bistro 12IMG_9750

delicious, light, and crispy calamari to start

IMG_9751

(HUGE) tasty salmon

Madre, Ben and I fueled very well after the move-in too. Large platters of meat, rice, and veg at our favorite Vietnamese market.

7) I am constantly in awe of the supportive blog community. Seriously, thank you all for being such great people who truly care about the person behind the blog post. ♥︎

Speaking of the blog community, here are a few of my favorite links from this week (and last week)!

A to Z Survey

I’m hopping on the survey train!

It was bound to happen, because who doesn’t love a good survey? I get to talk about me, myself, and I.

But first, fajitas. I made this recipe for chicken fajitas last night, and I’d say that it’s one of my favorite summer dinners so far!

DSC_1718

The cast iron skillet creates that sizzly crust on the chicken and that super heated char on the peppers and onions. Flavahhhhh.

Served over greens with avocado. We didn’t have any tortillas, but the carbs were made up with copious amounts of Popcorners. #cantstopwontstop

Two Truths and a Lie

Good morning!

‘Tis April Fools’ Day, and I was thinking of playing a joke on you guys, but I knew it just wouldn’t fly. I was considering a few posts that would catch people’s eyes, but it’s inevitable that no one would believe me. Some of my ideas? Telling you that I got a tattoo, that I wanted to quit blogging, or that I was pregnant. Kidding about the last one. I was also thinking of telling my parents I got a new boyfriend, but I can’t keep a straight face for MY LIFE, so I did not attempt that.

I guess I was still feeling the effects of an exhausting Benefit week yesterday, so I decided to go home for a little nap after school instead of going to the gym. I was aiming for a short half-hour cat nap but…

Screen Shot 2014-03-31 at 10.20.08 PM

Oops. I did not regret it a single bit though. It was glooooorious. I believe I could have slept a lot longer, but I didn’t want to mess up my sleep patterns too much.

In other news, Mother Nature was just as fickle and weird as me yesterday. She spit some sleet and snow on us in the morning, but then she gifted us with absolutely gorgeous sunny weather in the afternoon. I wish I could have exercised outside, but that nap was too sweet to pass up. Thus, my moves just consisted of the 100 challenge (except I doubled the squats to 200) and some planking.

Anyway, rather than joking around on this April Fools’ Day, I want to play a little “Two Truths and A Lie” with you all. If you’ve never done this before, I basically give you three statements about myself. Two are true and one is a lie, and you have to guess which one is the lie! My life isn’t that exciting, so this might be easy for you, but I think it’s a fun way to know some more fun facts about me (if you even care).

Answers at the end of the post!

First set:

a) My uncle is a priest.

b) I’ve shaken hands with three different popes.

c) I’ve climbed up a water fall.

Second set:

a) I used to do kung fu.

b) I used to do gymnastics.

c) I used to play the piano.

Third set:

a) I’ve been to every continent besides Antarctica and Oceania.

b) I’ve moved three times in my life.

c) I’ve been to Hawaii at least 5 times.

Fourth set:

a) My favorite color was once white.

b) I used to want to be a meteorologist.

c) I’ve never had pets.

Fifth set:

a) I have a crooked pinky.

b) I can do a back handspring.

c) I hate somersaults.

The Lies:

First set: B. I’ve seen Pope John Paul II and Pope Benedict in person, but I’ve never shaken hands with any pope.

Second set: A. I wish I did kung fu though! I would be like a flying monkey.

Third set: A. I’m going to visit Arman Down Under one day. One day.

Fourth set: C. We used to have fish, but my mom killed them all accidentally when she cleaned their tanks with soap. One day they were happy, and the next day they were all floating belly-up. *Sigh*

Fifth set: B. Again, I wish I knew how to do a back handspring! And I hate somersaults because I have a very prominent first vertebra, so it hurts pretty badly to roll over it.

There ya have it! Perhaps you learned something new about me. Hope you all have a great Tuesday! Don’t trust anyone today. 😉

So tell me:

Two truths and a lie— I’ll guess which one is the lie!

How’s the weather?

Have you ever pranked anyone on April Fools’ Day? Have YOU ever been pranked?
