Five Minute Friday #6: I Bet You Didn’t Know…

Someone make a meme out of this, please.

IMG_0573

WHY DON’T I HAVE A BOYFRIEND!?

We did the VO2max unit in exercise physiology lab last night, and I volunteered as tribute. Getting into that contraption was more exercise than the test itself, because the cycle erg never even increased resistance, so I was at a pretty low VO2 by the end of the test. Oh well. The hardest parts were the initial panic of having my nose plugged and then the fact that my butt was hurting like a !@#$% on that bike.

But it was fun!

In other news, spring break starts today! It was a pretty chill week for me this week, since all my midterms were last week. It was actually pretty hard for me to find motivation to do things since I didn’t have any imminent deadlines or exams this week.

So instead of doing work, I did things like take selfies in the 50 degree weather…

IMG_0547

…had a lot of meal dates and awesome conversations with friends…

I really love my friends ♥︎

…and don’t worry mom and dad, I did do lots of work 😀

Today’s Five Minute Friday is lighthearted! If you’ve been reading my blog for a while, you probably know a lot about me, but here are some things I bet you didn’t know! (Inspired by Tina’s post)

link to the video here!

Hope you all have a marvelous weekend! Don’t forget to laugh at yourself.

So tell me:

A fun fact about yourself!

Have you ever done a VO2max test?

What are you doing this weekend? Driving home with a couple of my good friends and just chillin’ out with the fam/doing homework/sleeping!

Three Words for Valentine’s Day Weekend

“I love you!”

…But not said to a significant other. I was saying that to my family and friends though, which is equally (if not, more) important.

I guess my three words are still “Dear No One“. (P.S. Tori Kelly’s dress on the red carpet for the Grammy’s last night, WHAT!? Gorgeous. Wish she won best new artist, but Meghan Trainor is cool too.)

I’m running short on time since I’ve been studying oodles for my exercise physiology exam, so here are some snapshots of my Valentine’s/President’s Day weekend in three words each!

So tell me:

Three things you did this weekend (please feel free to use more than three words)!

Do you find that cashew butter is too mild to put on foods (I can’t taste it with my banana/cinnamon oatmeal!)?

Did you watch the Grammy’s? I actually did not, but of course I kept up with TK.

Five Minute Friday #3: Making Changes to Fulfill a Purpose

I have a new companion who comes with me to all my meals, but I’m not really sure I want him there… He kinda weighs me down sometimes, but I can’t let go of him, and I always pay attention to what he has to say.

IMG_0154 IMG_0158

See him? Mr. Exercise Physiology. I have an exam for on Tuesday, and I need all information about metabolism to saturate my brain.

Other recent happenings include lots of sandwiches with guac…

IMG_0150 IMG_0157

…and Lent! It started this Wednesday, so this week’s Five Minute Friday vlog has to do with making changes in one’s life in order to fulfill a purpose (not just from a Catholic perspective).

link to the video here!

Catholics do have set rules for fasting and abstinence throughout Lent. Here are some infographics if you’re curious!

Ooo Valentine’s Day is this weekend, isn’t it? Flashback to when I wrote a letter to my future husband on this blog for Valentine’s Day two years ago. “Dear No One” is still my theme song.

Happy weekend!!!

So tell me:

If you participate in Lent, what are you giving up/adding? Giving up: makeup and scrolling Instagram (I can post but that’s it). Adding: Must be at least 5 minutes early to everything if I can help it and a decade of the rosary each day.

If you do not participate in Lent, do you feel called to make any specific changes in your life to meet your goals?

What are you doing for Valentine’s Day/President’s Day/the weekend?

I’ll be celebrating “Galentine’s Day” with Rachel tomorrow night! 🙂 The only way I might choose a guy over Rachel is if he comes up to me with a single rose in his mouth, Coldplay/Tori Kelly tickets, and a box of chocolates jar of peanut butter within the next twenty-four hours.

Day in the Life of a Second Semester Sophomore

WHAT-I-ATE-WEDNESDAY-NEW-BUTTON-PEAS-AND-CRAYONS

A Tuesday in the life of a second semester college sophomore…

8:10 AM // First alarm goes off. Shut it.

8:15 AM // Second alarm goes off. Snooze.

8:25 AM // Third alarm goes off. Roll out of bed. {Should not have spent useless minutes scrolling Insta so late the night before.Bathroom, brush teeth, put in contacts, etc.

8:35 AM // Morning prayer.

8:40 AM // Change into athletic clothes, just for the morning while I’m still studying (I try to wear real pants as little as possible).

IMG_0049

8:50 AM // Head across the street to the dining hall for breakfast! Work on my nutrition project while eating.

IMG_0075

hard boiled egg (with sriracha) + whole wheat toast with pb and banana + frozen blueberries

IMG_0076

9:40 AM // Go back to my dorm building and read biomechanics in the study room.

IMG_0077

10:20 AM // Head back up to my room for some foam rolling and a 30-minute yoga video.

IMG_0078

IMG_0079

11:00 AM // Change into real people clothes, tweeze my brows, and put on makeup.

11:20 AM // Film this week’s “Five Minute Friday’s” vlog and re-watch it. It’s over five minutes, dang it.

11:35 AM // Leave the room and walk to another dining hall for lunch with Rachel and Kelsey!

IMG_0080

salad with beets, peppers, and some sort of marinated potatoes + grilled chicken with eggplant relish, sautéed collards, and couscous

IMG_0081

plus an orange!

12:30 PM // Nutrition lecture. We learn about the basics of digestion, which isn’t the most exciting, but the professor is still awesome.

IMG_0082

1:20 PM // Get out of lecture early! Walk outside to the river for some fresh air since I have 30 minutes to kill before my next class. Re-film my vlog to see if I can get it under 5 minutes (spoiler: didn’t succeed).

IMG_0083

THIS WEATHER!!!

2:00 PM // Behavioral biology of women lecture. Such a fascinating course! Eat a snack before the lecture starts.

IMG_0084

half pb sandwich packed into napkins during lunch #resources

3:30 PM // Walk to the Catholic Center for a meeting.

4:10 PM // Send some messages to people and study exercise physiology (gotta keep on top of that) in the CC study room.

5:00 PM // Attend daily Mass in the upstairs chapel.

5:40 PM // Descend into the basement for the beloved free Tuesday pasta dinner! Have a grand ol’ time catching up with friends.

IMG_0085

6:45 PM // Start setting up for our weekly “Catholics on Campus” talk.

7:00 PM // Kick off the talk. Last night, one of the most hilarious nuns I’ve ever met came to talk to us about Catholic Church history. She transformed a history lesson into something that had my abs and cheek muscles hurtin’!

8:15 PM // Help clean up after the talk and walk back to my dorm. Eat a peanut butter oatmeal chocolate chip cookie (compliments of my Aunt Sharon from Christmas!).

IMG_0086

desperately need to do something about my nails/cuticles

8:45 PM // Shower, make appointments, write out my to-do list for Wednesday, brush teeth, chat with suite mates for a bit.

9:50 PM // Go up to the study room to take my online exercise physiology quiz.

IMG_0087

10:20 PM // Finish the (easy) quiz and curse myself out for getting one question wrong because the directions said “place in order from low to high glycemic load” and I put them in order from high to low. I deserved that.

10:30 PM // Start typing this blog post!

11:20 PM // Finish up the post, head back to my room, pray.

11:45 PM // Hit the hay. Feeling ever so slightly hungry, but I already brushed my teeth and I’m lazy. I DO THIS EVERY NIGHT UGH (9/10 times I just eat and brush again).

Every day is so different, but this is the gist of life right now. Some days I’m ultra productive, and other days I let myself get a little too distracted with friends/social media. Some days, it’s a nice balance of both. I like to think it’s “mental health”.

I’m having fun though! I’m feeling more comfortable with tackling the work in each of my courses, and I’ve been blessed to encounter so many people from whom I can draw inspiration and motivation. Including you guys!!

Some new Tori Kelly therapy for you all today:

Hope you all have a lovely Wednesday!

So tell me:

Do you have on and off days in terms of productivity?

What was the best thing you ate yesterday? The chicken with eggplant relish and couscous was pretty darn delicious!

A silly mistake you’ve recently made. (← for my own selfish, empathy-seeking purposes. 😀 ♥︎)

Another Embarrassing College Story for the Books

I’m currently typing this as I watch Grease LIVE on the telly.

Did anyone else watch? I love it, and the cast is KILLIN’ IT. Holy smokes, what can’t Julianne Hough and Vanessa Hudgens do!?

In all honesty, I could be studying right now, but I’m taking a little blogging/mental break before hitting the books again.

IMG_0026

Thank you, Enlightened, for the tasty snacks!

Speaking of academics, I have a story brought to you by my exercise physiology lecture (of approximately 130 people).

*Professor talking about something that I’m trying so hard to understand.*

Professor: *looks toward my section of the lecture room* “Are you okay? Do you have a question? You look confused.”

*All the students in my area look around thinking, “Who? Me?”*

*Professor takes out her laser pointer*

Professor: *Points her laser pointer in my general direction* “YOU.”

*Students looking around at who the pointer landed on.*

My friend: “Alison, it’s you.”

Me: *SO CONFUSED* “Me?”

Professor: “Yes, did you have a question?”

Me: “…No.”

Professor: “Okay, yes, you can just come to office hours. Don’t worry about it. You just had a look on your face.”

*Everyone in the lecture looking at me and chuckling*

My friend: “Did you raise your hand or something?”

Me: “I DIDN’T DO ANYTHING. IT’S JUST MY FACE.”

I was too confused to even be mortified. She took out her laser pointer and pointed to me in front of the whole class. WHY. I mean, I was confused about what she was teaching, but I would have raised my hand if I had specific question. I think it’s hilarious in retrospect though.

In other news, the weather was gorgeous this weekend! No coats yesterday!

IMG_0043

This winter has been completely wack, and I can’t say that I’m displeased.

was displeased with being utterly “hangry” on Saturday during/after work. For some reason, my blood sugar was just not rising enough, despite my snacking throughout work. I was absurdly emotional while walking to get this lunch after work. It was bizarre, and I hated that I was letting it get to me so much, but I was too low on energy to hold myself together. #melodramatic

IMG_0036

It was the kind of hunger that resulted in lightheadedness and weakness. Honestly, I don’t know why I felt that way, but thankfully, it was a rare occurrence. Needless to say, I was mighty grateful for this delicious lunch.

I did attend dance conditioning the day before, which was taught by my modern dance teacher. I was already kinda sore that day, but I figured it would be a fun way to move after sitting in class for a few hours. WRONG. Not that I didn’t have fun, but it was a more intense workout than I was expecting. I didn’t want to activate my lower glutes ever again after that class.

I’ve eaten a lot of ice cream this week. It had been a while since I ate dining hall soft serve, so I guess this week was catch-up.

IMG_0038

Alrighty, time to read about exercise physiology so that I don’t look so confused in class.

Hope you all have a peachy Monday! Do the hand jive to ring in the new week (and month)!

So tell me:

Any embarrassing college lecture stories?

Did you watch Grease Live?

Three things you did this weekend! Mass, mobile soup kitchen, and laundry 🙂
