I feel like an adolescent going through a growth spurt. Or just a woman going through woman things.
I can’t. stop. sleeping. Or eating for that matter.

Also, I defied my craving for a slow workout yesterday, which wasn’t the best idea. I did one round (instead of two) of Colby’s day three lower body workout, and I was absolutely spent. It wasn’t just a muscle fatigue thing; it actually did not feel good for my body or brain, so I skipped the second round.
After my warm up, I thought, “I really don’t want to do this workout. I could nap right here, right now.” Evidently, sometimes I still have trouble listening to my body, but I like to at least warm up and start the workout. If it absolutely sucks, then I modify like I did yesterday.
Do you ever think, “I gave myself a rest/yoga/active recovery day yesterday. Heck, I had so many days off of exercise last week! I should be able to do an intense workout today!”? That’s sort of what went through my mind yesterday, but I know that’s not necessarily true. We have a cycle ladies, so the kinds of movements and amounts of energy our bodies need cycle naturally.

Dudes, you probably have off weeks too, right? I dunno, maybe you’re all invincible and never get tired.
All this to say: Don’t forget to listen to your body. You will not shrivel into a raisin if you do just yoga/walking/resting for one week.
Last night I had the privilege of meeting up with my wonderful friend, Christine! We were also supposed to meet up with Colby, but the poor girl had an infection that she had to take care of. Keep her in your prayers!
Facebook reminded me that it had actually been exactly one year since we had dinner in the city together during my last winter break! This time, we met up at Le Botaniste, an organic, plant-based, fast-service restaurant.
We both got brown rice bowls with their delicious coconut curry peanut sauce. My add ons included pickled cabbage, turmeric onions, and Moroccan carrots.
It was very satisfying, filling and tasty, but I can definitely make these at home. The company was the most important part though! Christine and I had a lot of much-needed girl chat.
Christine: “Do you want to get dessert?”
Me: “I was just about to ask.”
To froyo we went!
toppings galore
dessert-y for me, fruity for her
Vegetables and sugar are two of my favorite food groups.
I love you, Christine!! Thanks for a fun girls’ night 🙂
So tell me:
Does your workout motivation/energy ebb and flow?
What is the best vegetarian/vegan restaurant you’ve ever been to?
I definitely go through phases when I’m just so hungry and tired! I don’t know why! But those brown rice bowls look soooo good!
You do ♥︎ vegetables and those bowls were full of ’em! 🙂
Oh my goodness yes I resonate with this so much. The other day I was on a run and I was planning on doing 5-6 miles, but 1 mile in, it wasn’t happening. I just felt so tired. So, I turned around and did 3 miles total. Zero regrets but yeah, definitely question myself. I still think it’s better to listen to my body and just go with it, and eat all the foods and nourish my soul too!
That’s so good that you gave your run a try and listened to your body ultimately!
I KNOW what you mean; and I’m still not great at quitting workouts or not doing them when I’m not feeling it. However you made me think. I don’t think I’m really feeling my long run on Saturday, so I think I’ll just say, ‘No’ this time. ❤
Yes! Do what is right for your body, Emily. You can always try, but if your body says “no,” then do something else instead! Rest, walk, yoga, cuddle with your pups 🙂
Totally needed this post-thank you!! So true!
YES. our bodies really know what’s best and when my body is like ehhh ya no sleep I gotta listen to it. Even though it’s frustrating at times because I feel like we always wanna keep going and pushing ourselves!
I’m with ya, girl. But I know that my body feels soooo much better when I DO work out once I’ve give it the rest it needs!
It’s awesome that you’re able to check in with yourself and honor your body’s needs whether that be by eating what you crave or by saying no to a workout. THAT’S where I want to be eventually.
A good ol’ colorful bowl sounds perfect. My fave vegetarian food is either in this place called Cosmic Cafe downtown or The Bowellery further north. Oooh, there’s also a great vegan bakery 5 minutes from my apartment. If you ever find yourself in Dallas, I could definitely take you!
Hehe I will surely go to wherever the locals love if I go to a new to me city like Dallas! 🙂
