Finals got me like…
[source]
I am typing this at midnight after a long day of studying, but honestly, I have nothing to complain about. Finals always suck, but that’s just the way the cookie crumbles. Instead, let’s look at the positive things that happened last week. Theme: How can it be…?
How can it be that I’m going home in five days?
How can it be that my best friend gave me the most thoughtful Christmas gift in all the land? Rachel put together a beautiful scrapbook consisting of letters written by all my friends here at college, as well as family and friends from home.
too many emotions!!!
I love you, Rachel! ♥︎ And thank you so much, friends who contributed!
How can it be that Christmas is less than two weeks away?
How can it be that friends who I’ve known for a year or less have become like family?
How can it be that my engineering friends are so brilliant?
fireplace inside the gingerbread house thanks to iPhone technology
How can it be that my friend Emma and I made it to the roof of the Arts and Sciences building before 10AM on Thursday?
How can it be that my friends and I survived skating without falling on our butts?
How can it be that Mr. Bartley’s Burger Cottage delivered into my life everything I needed and more on Saturday night? It took Rachel and me 1.5 hours to get to this place (unexpectedly), we were hangry and fading, and I was dead tired. By the grace of God we made it to the restaurant and this meal made all things right.
pumpkin pie frappe (milkshake)! there were graham cracker pieces.
“iPhone burger” with boursin cheese, grilled onions, mushrooms, lettuce, and tomato + sweet potato fries (p.s. crushed that burger)
How can it be that the dining hall spoils me too?
African sweet potato, peas, and lentils
holiday dinner night: herbed chicken with apricot pomegranate sauce, sweet potatoes, and green beans
BBQ lentil “meatball” sub
baked fish with mashed sweet potatoes and sautéed kale
salad from the food court
How can it be that my friends are so hilarious?
How can it be that my brain and body are still functioning right now?
How can it be that God is so good to us “squishy mortals” (← favorite phrase ever via Geraldine)?
There is nothing more attractive in the world than my bed, so I’m gonna go there now.
Hope you all have a fantastic week ahead! This time of year is stressful for nearly everyone, but I hope you find some light in the darkness 🙂
So tell me:
How can it be that…(insert something wonderful)?
What is the best burger you’ve ever eaten?
Is this a stressful time for you?
How can it be…
– The end of 2015 already
– 70 degrees out in December?!
– that I ran out of ways to procrastinate studying
Love this post, Alison! Glad you’re having fun amidst all the finals stress. You can do it!!! 🙂
How can it be that:
God so loved the world that He gave His ONLY begotten Son… WOW!
That I have found so many awesome sisters in the Lord over blogging like you!
That you have influenced my recovery more than you will ever know, just this year.
That it’s a Monday morning, and we get an actual small vacation…
That it’s ALMOST CHRISTMAS!!! 🙂
That burger, Alison…you have me dying over here with that burger because that actually sounds exactly like all the flavors/toppings I love on just about any sandwich! Plus, sweet potatoes??? Sounds pretty close to food heaven to me! I don’t tend to be that big of a burger person, though a long time ago, I had an In n’ Out Burger and loved it at the time. Other than that, I think I usually have a chicken sandwich at most places where other people are ordering burgers, just due to flavor preferences. If it involves any combination of bacon, mushrooms, grilled/sautéed/caramelized onions, guac and maybe even a favorite cheese (if I’m tossing my dairy intolerance to the wind!), count me in!!
It’s sort of stressful…I want to be down in California, helping with my grandma who is recovering from two strokes, but I am trying to be at peace with where God has me right now, here serving my family. But there is still a lot of uncertainty surrounding my grandma’s condition, and add to that the strong pull of desire I am grappling with, and it makes for a fairly difficult time. But I’d say I’m more struggling with contentment than stress at this moment.
But let’s end this with looking up to the blessings in life…how can it be that so many of my extended family, who I thought didn’t really care about me, have shown me in multiple ways over the past month that I am important to them? One of those things I’d basically given up hope on…
Have a great break, Alison! Hope you give yourself plenty of rest + relaxation time!
ohhh buddy. I’ve loved seeing all these antics via snap/FB/etc. How can it be….I don’t even know where to start!
Also that burger….Silly q but how did it get the iphone name haha. And the frappe. And the PRESENT! Now I’m cranky at Rachel that I didn’t get to send my letter- It was even signed by Hugh Jackman!
Sending you all the best vibes for your finals, lovely lady! Life’s definitely been a little stressful lately, but not really more so than at any other time? And maybe not so much stressful as just trying to manage a lot of things that I love? 😆 Basically, I’m all over the place, but pretty content.
Girl… we are almost done. Only a few more days and then we are FREE (at least, for a little bit.)
Such a fun recap!!!!!!! Man o man that gift from your pal is pretty darn epic!!! All the emotions for real🙈🙈🙈
And that burger is making me want meaty goodness like no other😳
How can it be that I still have so much to do today but no motivation to do any of it I just want to sleep and eat and read blogs all day! Ya feel me!?😩
But we are so close! Wishing you a fantabulous day Alison! Love ya girl!
Aww it is so good to catch up on what is going on in your life.. I miss you! Your adventures seem so exciting and that dining hall food looks superb compared to my campus’. *shivers*
You will do excellent on your finals, but nevertheless, good luck, sweet girl! 🙂
Oh my goodness that is the most thoughtful gift ever! I had tears in my eyes just reading about it!
Lots of luck and hugs for your finals! I’m sure you will do brilliantly! 🙂
You always have the coolest post “themes” and I always want to steal them 🙂 Also that falafel meatball sandwich looks amazing. I love falafel. Stay strong for a few more days of the semester!!! ❤
I can’t believe Christmas is about a week away! How nuts! I should probably start Christmas shopping 😉
Also – I love that your friend made you a scrapbook. That was really sweet of her. I feel like homemade gifts are almost always better than purchased gifts!
