“The devil’s beating his wife” right now!
^^^Has anyone used/heard of this expression before? Apparently it’s a Southern regional way of saying that it’s raining while the sun is still shining. I’m not from the South, but it’s fun to say and freak people out up here in the Northeast.
I was meaning to blog earlier this week, but activities and schoolwork caught up to me, blah blah, normal excuses. But here I am with my breakfast, ready to share a late virtual breakfast date with you.
…you would see that I’m eating a classic “me” breakfast.
two eggs scrambled with veggies + whole wheat pancakes with peanut butter and banana + glass o’ milk
…I would tell you that I ate the same thing earlier this week.
except with Sriracha! ♥
…I would tell you that this week has been fruitful. Firstly, it has been fruitful in a very literal sense, since I went apple picking with the Catholic Center on Columbus Day.
…I would tell you that there are few things better than eating fresh apples on a beautiful sunny day with the most loving friends.
…I would tell you that the apple cider donuts (WITH cinnamon sugar) might be one of my favorite seasonal treats ever.
…I would tell you that I need to learn to keep my mouth closed in photos.
…I would tell you that we all donated some of our apples to baking apple crisps for the Boston Rescue Mission! Fruitful apple picking in a more profound sense, am I right?
…I would tell you that I’ve battled some tough inner demons this week. However, talking with my dearest friends and my spiritual director has been very fruitful. There have been many tears, but “tears are a gift,” as my friend Lauren says.
Thank you, dear friends.
…I would tell you that it has been lovely getting to move and groove outdoors this week.
…I would tell you that there’s some funky debris in my milk cup right now and I’m a little concerned.
…I would tell you that there have been some good eats this week!
Thai chicken wrap
beef stir fry
triple berry cobbler a la mode OMG
baked fish and carrots + salad + butternut squash, caramelized onion, arugula, and BLUE CHEESE pizza!!!
loaded salad with beets, carrots, tomatoes, peas, orzo, roasted red peppers, beef, and a hunk o’ burnin’ love bread
…I would tell you that I have a lot of studying to do this weekend, but I’m also looking forward to some a cappella shows tomorrow!
…I would tell you that you’re awesome.
…I would ask you to tell me:
What do you call it when it’s raining and the sun is still shining (if you even have a term)?
Have you ever gone apple picking?
How has your week been fruitful?
What’s up this weekend?
LOL, that saying is hysterical! 😂 I’ve never heard of it before, but now I am severely tempted to try it out on the northwesterners (?) over here… I always say (so creatively), “Hey look guys, its raining while the sun is shining!” The devil beating his wife is much more dramatic, haha!
I live in Washington, and here’s the crazy thing: I’ve never been apple picking. I have had fresh apples from the local produce stand, which is almost the same thing, right? In my book, there is no other apple than one fresh from Foley’s (the produce stand) in apple season. Sorry, world, I hate grocery store apples 90% of the time, unless they’re in something! #snob
My week has been fruitful because I have been covering for my two out-of-town sisters (who are working their behinds off, too), and doing all their jobs around the house with the help of my brother, and I like to think we’ve done pretty well so far!
This weekend involves lots of to-ing and from-ing to the train station and airport. My sisters come home, my dad leaves on a business trip, and my aunt comes to visit. It will certainly be a unique weekend for us! Hope you have a good one, Alison! ❤
It can be hard to find good apples depending on where you live, but the northeast fortunately has some amazing options! As do the grocery stores… 😉
Hope you had a great weekend with your family, Abbie!
It sounds like you’ve got a fantastic group of friends supporting you. Your one friend is so right – tears ARE a gift. Sometimes you just gotta let it out.
Crying is sometimes the BEST therapy.
Yummy food – your campus has much better selections than mine did when I was in college. I have yet to try apple cider donuts, but should probably find time somewhere…feels like a pretty important item to eat during these fall months! I plan to do a little shopping tonight, a WOD tomorrow, and relaxing during the rest of the weekend. Hopefully getting some blog posts scheduled (!!) since I’ve been on a roll lately!
You must try fresh apple cider donuts! Hope you had a great weekend, Kelsey!
OH MY GOD that berry cobbler…is that ice cream or whip cream?
You look like you’re having the time of your life.
Ice cream! Always 😉
A sun shower?! Original right;) lol
Id say this week has been a mixed bag but hallelujah thank the lord it’s over!!!!!
And apple picking is fun and all but those apple cider donuts are the real attraction!!!!
Hope you have a great weekend and YOU ARE AWESOME!!!
Ps I found this and thought it was so punny 😂 And if I had that many friends willing to dress up with me I would so do this!! 😉 NUMBER 15!🎢

Haha that’s what I usually call it too!
YOU are awesome and I think those Halloween costumes are GREAT.
Hooray for apple picking 🙂 It doesn’t feel like fall until I’ve done this! Also, I’ve never had an apple cider donut but they sound delicious. I’ll have to find a local baker around here than makes some and dig in! Happy Saturday!
You have to try an apple cider donut one day, Di!! It’s one of the finer treats in life 🙂
I’ve never heard that expression but I am TOTALLY going to use it now. It’s hilarious! Love you girl and I’m sorry you’ve had to deal with some harder thoughts.
It’ll keep people on their toes if you use that phrase in Cali for sure 😉
Thank you for your prayers and support, girl. Hope you’re doing well after last week ♥︎
I am in the south, we do NOT say that here. Your friends look like they provide the family kind of love and that is beautiful. I’m unmarried, dont have/want children, live quite a way from my parents, but my friends feel just like family to me. Glad you have these people to share the apples with you!
There are some regional phrases that I don’t say here either. It all depends on how/where you were raised I guess! 🙂
So glad to hear that you have a good group of friends to support you and keep you happy!
I had a very fruitful week, though sadly not in the literal way. Apparently, despite Washington being the apple state, our apple-picking season ends at the end of September? And I’ve actually never been. Craziness, I know. Anyhow, this week I’ve been helping take care of my cousin’s kids while his wife is gone to a conference. It’s been a ton of fun, loads of learning opportunities, thinking on the fly and experiencing a tiny bit what it must be like to have two little ones. Of course, I would love to be a mom most of all, so this has been super-fun for me. This weekend I’m leaving, which makes me VERY sad, though I’m also looking forward to seeing my family again. I’ll be gearing up to get into the regular weekly groove again, too.
I’m not sure if we have special phrase meaning that…usually we say something about the silver lining is ____, or that there is a bright spot in the situation. But I like the devil beating his wife phrase! 😛
I’m so sorry you’ve had such a hard week!! I’ll be praying it gets easier for you! Hugs! ❤
I bet the apples in that short picking time in Washington are the BEST apples ever though! 🙂
Thank you so much for your prayers, Hannah! ♥︎ Praying for you too.
Never heard of that phrase before and I don’t know of an alternative… But where I am from in Scotland, when the weather is miserable we say ‘it’s affy driech (dree-k-huh) the day’! Haha!
Oh my goodness, I need to say THAT.
I’ve had a wonderful road trip so far with some of my best friends, so I would call that a fruitful weekend. I also got to visit the BEAUTIFUL city of Vancouver for the first time. 🙂
I’ve always wanted to go to Vancouver! Must be gorgeous this time of year!
