Thank you for your love and support on Friday’s post. ♥
Confession #1: My gynecology appointment on Friday was good, terrifying, confusing and disheartening all at the same time. I’m going back this Friday, and I’ll leave it at that.
Confession #2: I went to a formal workout for the first time in a long time, and it was FUN.
A new fitness group on campus hosted an outdoor workout in the middle of campus, so I decided to stop by and join them [10 minutes late]. It wasn’t anything crazy; it was just wonderful to be active outdoors with fellow Terriers.
Confession #3: I waited in line for 1.5 hours to see a comedian I hadn’t even heard of before.
Are any of you fans of the show Parks and Recreation? The comedian we watched was Retta from the show. We definitely had some good laughs!
Confession #4: I don’t want to say that the weather has been perfect these past two weeks because I don’t want to jinx it. But here I am saying it anyway.
Confession #5: My roommate had her birthday dinner this weekend and I felt like I was at a celebrity’s birthday party. 40 people at a trendy hot pot restaurant for THIS MODEL.
suite mates
Confession #7: I cooked the vegetables that so many people at the party didn’t want to eat, and I took them home as leftovers. Then I ate them cold. #dontwastefoodplease
Confession #8: Sandwiches are baaaaaack. 🙂 The no-fail meal option.
Confession #9: I have dessert practically every day here in college. Apparently “sophomore spread” is a thing, (like, my fat is supposed to spread out all over the place? all I can think of with that term is Jabba the Hut), but I think we’ll be okay.
We walk a lot.
Confession #10: I brought my own peanut butter to the Catholic Center pancake brunch on Sunday.
“Alison, you did NOT bring your own peanut butter.”
“But alas, here it is on my pancake.”
Confession #12: I spent $5 for public transportation to see fireworks. ‘Twas worth it because of these beautiful people.
Confession #13: I’m reading more text (that’s not on a blog) than I have in a long time. SO MUCH DENSE READING. SO LITTLE TIME.
Confession #14: I went to the gym for the first time in several months. I felt somewhat lost because a) they moved and added a lot of equipment; b) I hadn’t touched a weight in forever. I’m still not doing anything near what I used to do, but I did use some light kettlebells.
Confession #15: It took me a total of 4 hours to do laundry because apparently, college students like to do laundry on a long weekend. Who would have thought? Not me, evidently.
This weekend was so college, it hurts— studying, dining hall food, and events that require investments I would deem unreasonable outside of a college setting.
I hope you all had a fantastic Labo(u)r Day if you celebrated. Full force ahead!!! (<— me pretending to be enthusiastic about 8AM classes)
So tell me:
What is the most exciting thing you did this weekend?
Do you bring nut butter with you where you know it will be applicable?
Have you ever eaten at a hot pot restaurant?
Please explain what “sophomore spread” is supposed to mean.
Most exciting thing I did this weekend was probably just hanging out with my little nephews! They’re just so darn cute 🙂
And I love parks & rec so I’m jealous you got to see the comedian!
Ahh totally craving time with little babies and children now, haha!
It sounds and looks like you had a great weekend, even if you had to wait in line for 1.5 hours. Also, I’m so glad the weather has been nice for you! It’s going to be a humid 90F here in Pittsburgh today (but I’ll take it over snow any day!). I have never heard of the term “sophomore spread” before and I’ve never been to a hot pot restaurant. Do you just cook food in pots or what? Very interesting! The most exciting thing I did this weekend was go to the Pittsburgh Renaissance Festival!
It’s been super hot here too, don’t get me wrong! But I can’t complain about the blue skies.
At a hot pot restaurant, they give you a soup broth to boil at the table, and then you cook your own meats and vegetables in it. It’s a fun way to eat your dinner!
That’s so cool!!
There are very few things I keep in my bag/purse at all times. One being…. packets of peanut butter. ALL THE TIME. You never know when you’re going to come across some pancakes that need spreading (or just a little hunger quashing)! I would have been right with ya. These sound like awesome times. And you know what.. money is just money. Spending time with friends and gaining these memories is HELLA more important. I start school today so for me this weekend was allll about le laundry and le fridge cleaning and le food prep.
Smart woman, you. 😉 And you’re right about the memories vs. money thing. Money will come and go, but now is the time to make memories!
Wishing you the best as school starts!
OMG. Hot pot. My sister and I would chuck all these greens in there and call them the unwanted weeds.
Sophmore spread is a new one.. I wonder what is next. Junior Belly? Senior…sinus infection?
It made me SAD that so many people didn’t touch a single thing on their bounteous plate of veggies. Sadder than was when you left NYC. 😉
LOL junior jiggle perhaps?
You and your friends are so cute! And soak up “so college” weekends while you still can 🙂
I bring my own nut butter EVERYWHERE. I do it under the guise that I have allergies and need to make sure there’s one I can eat, but really… I just don’t ant to be caught in a situation where I don’t have one of the things I basically need to live 😉
I think that’s great Amanda. 😉 I would have to agree with that sentiment.
Amen. Where I am, nut butter will also be.
Most exciting thing I did was meet my friends new baby 🙂 I also went out for afternoon drinks with my mom and aunt yesterday afternoon. Also, I have definitely taken my own peanut butter places. Sometimes you just need to 😉
Sounds like a lovely weekend! When I’m legal, afternoon drinks on labor day weekend would sound wonderful. 🙂
Sophomore spread🙈😜that’s a new one!!! I have no idea!!!!
Peanut butter and cinnamon in my bag at all times #pleasedontjudgeme😂
Hot pot restaurant? I was thinking you meant a super trendy place but reading allies comment do you mean you actually bring food in pots?!
Apparently I’ve been living under a rock! Lol all this new terminology
Have a great one Alison
Ooo bringing cinnamon around would be useful too! LOL, who are we.
And for the hot pot restaurant, they put a pot of soup broth on the table burner to boil, and then you cook raw meats and veggies in the broth yourself!
Oh my gosh. Bringing your own peanut butter is SO like something I would do. Must. Have. Peanut. Butter. (especially good peanut butter, and especially with pancakes!) And sandwiches = the best! I am so sorry about your appointment. Still praying…hope Friday goes better! I’ve never been to a hot pot restaurant…is it good? I went on a shopping spree: Goodwill and Whole Foods!! Super fun for me! 🙂
Thank you, Hannah ♥
I love the balance of a budget shop and Goodwill and a splurge shop at Whole Foods :)))
Hmm, the most interesting thing I did was (I’m struggling to remember my weekend, how crazy is that)…oh, going to a labor day sale at Goodwill along with every other resident in the whole region. That place was crowded! I couldn’t even finish my shopping because the lines extended through the isles. I did get two tops, a jacket and a pair of boots out of the deal, though, so it was more successful than I was expecting!
I don’t think I am married enough to my nut butter to bring my own to places, unless it was a hotel room. 😉
You’ve got me on the sophomore spread… 😐 And I’ve never been to a hot pot restaurant…
Praying that your appointment on Friday goes well! ❤
Now two people have told me about going to Goodwill! I should remember the labor day sale for next year, since there’s one on campus here. 🙂
Thank you for your prayers, Abbie!
I hope your appointment went well, I will text you asap! I’m moving into my dorm tomorrow, and you best believe that I am bringing my own jar of peanut butter 😀 I learned from the best!
I have never heard of the sophomore spread… it sounds like a gross cafeteria meal special more than anything. I just learned something today!
Peanut butter in the dorm has been my night snack sustenance 😉
LOL sophomore spread really does sound like a gross cafeteria meal.
I had to smile about the peanut butter. I literally did the same thing and got the same question. . . I smiled, said, ‘Yes’ and went on spreading it on my pancake. I did feel a wee bit self-conscious for a bit. And dessert every day sounds like a good deal to me.
My friends have accepted my peanut butter addiction, so it’s only normal of me to bring it with me everywhere 😉
Hahaha “events that require investments I would deem unreasonable outside of a college setting” <- truth. I've gone to so many random a cappella concerts, fundraisers, and free food events, and other random things in college hahaha. It's all part of the experience 🙂
I actually did eat at hot pot restaurants a few times in China 2 summers ago while I was doing an exchange program and they were so cool! I love that you cooked all of the extra veggies haha!
And I hope your next gyno appointment is more enjoyable
“Sophomore spread” is a new one to me but I’m writing it off as fearmongering and you should too. Unless its a nut butter-based spread, in which case you should devour it on an apple or some other implement immediately. I hope your gyno follow up is less terrifying. I have to get my ladyparts checked out next week and I’m also dreading the anticipation (and expecting some, err, problems, due to my history and more recent questionable behaviors.) I understand. It’s scary biznez. But important, so glad you’re taking care of it, whatever IT means for you…
ps sorry I never, ever actually answer the questions? oop.s.
Haha I called my mom right after my appointment and told her I needed a hug. But I’m grateful that I’m able to get the care I need. Thank you for your encouragement! ♥
No shame in bringing your nut butter with you – I would! Imagine pancakes without… I just can’t!
I have always wanted to try hot pot… Must hunt one down!
We don’t really have any terms for what year you are in at uni, just 1st years, 2nd years etc. although when you first arrive you are known as freshers and you were always warned about ‘freshers flu’ – basically everyone came down with the flu within their first 2 weeks at uni because loads of people + lots of activities + lack of sleep = flu!
“Freshers flu” makes a lot more sense than “sophomore spread”!
I’m praying hard and strong for you, Alison. If you need anything, I am a text away!
College life looks like so much fun. My roomate is from a college in Chicago, and this is so similar to what she describes to me. It’s so different in Australia!
I don’t bring nut butter with me, but it is a staple at home. I have, however, been known to bring chilli powder, cinnamon, and tea bags.
Hot pot restaurants are THE BOMB, and (I think) at their most impressive in South Korea. Except (especially?) when they bring out chopped octopus, still. moving. on. the. plate.
And Sophomore Spread… is this a whole other thing to the Freshman Fifteen?
Smart idea to bring tea bags! Never know when you’ll need a nice cup of tea to decompress 😉
Oh man, I’ve never had to cook food that was still moving…
i did that at hot pot- haha! we got a ton of veggies and a ton of meats, and since i dont eat any of those meats, i was like okay no one else wants more veg, okay i’ll cook all the veg thats left! oh i cooked it, i dont want to waste it, ah i’ll take it home! 😉 (they all gave me the weirdest looks haha)
and i’ve definitely done the whole bring your own food/condiments, esp in college, where the dining halls dont have it all.
Glad I’m not the only one who doesn’t want to waste the veggies!
