A Classic Day of Eats on My Last Day Home

Today’s the day I go back to Boston!

I’m pumped. I’m jazzed. I’m {sort of} ready to rock ‘n’ roll. Being a sophomore, I feel a little more comfortable moving in and getting ready for classes since I know some of the ropes and have a friend or two.

One thing I will still miss is being able to make my own food. That being said, Boston University dining hall food is pretty darn good, so I cannot complain. When other people make peach cobbler available to you, you do not complain.

So yesterday was my last day of eating at home for a while. It was a great day of farewell eats because everything seemed to be classic “Alison food” (for lack of a better term).

Breakfast

I dropped off my dad at the train station at 6 AM per usual, and then I set my alarm for 10 AM so that I wouldn’t sleep in until an absurd time (like noon or something). Next thing I know, mom comes knocking at 11 AM.

Mom: “Alison, are you picking up your contacts now? It’s 11.”

Me: “Huh?” *looks at clock* “Awww…..”

This morning we’re leaving for Boston at 7AM whether I like it or not.

Snack

mixed roasted nuts

Look at that Brazil nut! I dug through half the container to get that honker.

Lunch

In the midst of a ton of packing, I ate a late lunch that was more like a snack plate.

Snack

This snack puts a huge smile on my face. Or it warms my heart at the very least.

banana with pb + glass o’ milk

Seriously though, I’m getting emotional looking at this photo. SUCH A CLASSIC. (Emotions could also be due to the fact that I’m going to be seeing my college friends soon. Ah. Ah. Ahhh.)

Dinner

You know I couldn’t be at home with Madre without a Groupon dinner. 🙂 After dad came home from work, we went out to my favorite Japanese restaurant for what I believe to be the best sushi ever.

And then Madre and I shared so much sushi! We also shared a small side salad that came with the meal.

“Out of Control” roll: salmon, tuna, yellowtail, asparagus inside + salmon and tuna on top

The name of that roll is fitting. Houston, come in, this sushi is out. of. control.

sushi roll combo: tuna, eel avocado, and yellowtail rolls

Fish to rice ratio is amazing.

Dessert

A two-parter, because it’s the end of summer vacation.

my favorite dried figs with Greek yogurt

It’s been a while since I ate this combo! Good as ever.

I’m basically the only one who eats ice cream in the house (when Ben isn’t home), so I thought I’d do my parents a favor and clean up this carton to make more room in the freezer. 😀

Catch ya in Boston!

Blogging will progressively get more sparse as these next couple of weeks go on. Summer has been a fun time to blog as much as my heart desires, but obviously, school work will get most of my time from now until the end of the year. I’ll get into a groove (duh) of sorts eventually, so hopefully I’ll be able to blog somewhat regularly still!

Either way, I love you all. Praying for you, and please pray for me!

So tell me:

Are you a fan of sushi?

Did you eat dessert last night? What was it?

What is a classic snack or meal that you love?

  1. Your eats are SO inspiring and I admire you for all of the hard work that you have done and strives you have made! It keeps me pushing! Good luck and have fun back at school. While I will miss the blog check-ins, I understand you need to focus on what’s important 🙂 Question, and I am sorry if you have answered this before, but what kind of milk do you drink?

  2. Looks like a pretty delicious last day! A very classic “me” snack would be sliced apples and bananas with peanut butter, plus a side of Greek yogurt for good measure.
Good luck as you start your second year! Have so much fun!

  3. Whenever I see a breakfast like that I think of you, so it is totally “Alison food”. I LOVE sushi and especially going and sharing a bunch of rolls with someone. Excited for your new chapter!! I miss college so I will live vicariously through you 🙂

  4. You and me are literally twins when it comes to flavor combos because I am rigorously nodding my head at all of your food combinations! Chicken thighs, nuts, sushi, figs, ice-cream… this is the dream life yo! As much as I will miss seeing your cooking, I am looking forward to seeing pie-a-la-mode (now that I know what it is… I think) and ways that you manage to sneak in pb ;).

  5. Mmmm going out with a bang!!👍🏼👍🏼
Peanut butter an bananas and milk. What else could one need right ?!😍
Hmm another classic meal would be my moms pasta with homeade gravy (sauce) or just good old ny pizza!
Have a safe caaaaaar (said in my Boston accent😋) trip back up to Boston
I’m looking forward to more sceduled days but definitely not work and classes and hw and papers😭😭😭

  6. Good luck for the year ahead at school! In the UK when we go into 2nd year of university we all move into private rented apartments so could cook to our hearts content! Then again we don’t have catered halls of residence so have to cook in 1st year too! Haha!
I love the massive chunks of fish in that sushi – always makes me sad when it’s all rice and no filling 😦

  7. Shit son, I have been eating SOOOOO MUCH SUSHI LATELY – I am talking like every other night, and you know what? I don’t even care, LMFAO!!! Salmon skin handrolls are the sheeeezee! I need to jump on the Groupon bandwagon though because hot damn my meals are racking up the bill!

  8. Safe travels and ENJOY your return to school, Alison!! I will be returning to school in less than two weeks, and although I’m super excited, I can’t believe the summer has come and gone. So glad you enjoyed your full range of the kitchen while at home.. but now you get to enjoy the luxuries of school meal life and having everything prepared for you! Actually, I’m pretty jealous – I miss it!
Ps. I’ve been following your blog for quite some time now and really love your posts – thank you for always sharing. I JUST started my own blog (after a long time of debating… its just a wordpress for now) and hope it is okay I linked your site in one of my first posts! Thanks, again!

  9. Sushi – yuuuuuuuum 😍 I swear I could die happy if I ate sushi for the rest of my life. No joke. So yes, I am a bit of a fan of sushi. Haha.
I had a dinner date last night, so I ended up eating all the things! We got chocolate brownie with chocolate sauce and vanilla bean ice-cream. I’m not usually a desserts person, but it was AMAZING. To die for. So good. I regret nothing haha.
I don’t know if it’s a “classic” but I do like banana and honey on toast or just a plain ol’ cheese toasted sandwich dipped in tomato soup (or any soup really). So simple, but so good and the exact type of comfort food that I need sometimes. Yum.

  10. Will be praying for you for sure! I’ve never had sushi. I’m iffy on raw fish, but I might like it! Yes, I had Amanda’s flourless double chocolate chip muffins, and they were so good. So are the leftovers. 😀 http://www.runningwithspoons.com/2014/02/07/flourless-double-chocolate-chip-muffins/
Right now I’m really loving fresh fruit (peaches!) for snacks, but we’ve been making tons of granola bars, and I love snacking on those. As for a meal, overnight oats probably wins! 😉
