The Best Things I Did This Weekend

I am currently staring at all the food I need to put away in the fridge and procrastinating doing so by blogging.

What is all this food I’m staring at? See below. šŸ™‚

The Best Things I Did This Weekend:

1. Celebrating Fathers’ Day!

There are no words that can justly describe how much Pop means to me. Such a humble, hard working, charitableĀ man. Thank you for everything, Pop!

We BBQ’d to celebrate and followed typical protocol— I chop, marinate, and skewer;Ā Dad grills. We make a good team.

When Dad and I grill, we eat super casually. We’ll just graze and try whatever is ready out of the oven or off the grill, as a BBQ should be IMO. It’s like an all night buffet.

2. Logging off of Facebook and InstagramĀ for a majority of the weekend (Friday and Saturday at least).

I dare you to try this. Logging off of social media and not worrying about notifications or checking news feeds did wonders for my focus and breathing. Yes, I was still on Instagram and FB, especially yesterday, but even taking a couple days off helped me realize how much time and energy I spent on social media. I’m going to make this a regular thing.

3.Ā This breakfast.

I rarely have the same breakfast two mornings in a row, but this was a repeat on Friday and Saturday because it was basically 90% prepared and tasted 100% delicious.

I’ve tried this in the past and failed, but on Friday night I just went for it again and surprised myself! I did it a few timesĀ and called it a day, don’t worry šŸ˜‰

5. Amanda’sĀ banana muffins.

These babiesĀ made their way to the top of some ice cream…

6. Surprising mom at the airport during her layover.

It’s a long story as to why she was traveling, but long story short: We got to see her for the first time in about a month at the airport! She was so happy to see us, and we were so happy to see her!

7. Listening to Tori Kelly’s new album on iTunes radio.

I need to white-girl-fan-girl here, because I CANNOT EVEN handle how amazing it is. I advise you to go listen (on iTunes Radio First Play, but theĀ album drops tomorrow!).

Ā 9. Eating more than Pop on Saturday.

This is real life. I ate quite a bit more than my dad on Saturday, and I didn’t even try! Granted, we have two opposite goals for our bodies (and…different bodies), but I’m pretty darn impressed with myself!

10. Going to church.

Always the highlight.

Woo that’s a lot of happenings!Ā Wait, more than half of these are about food. I act surprised, but I guess I shouldn’t be…

Hope you all have a marvelous Monday!

So tell me:

The top three best things you did this weekend!

Do you like repeating breakfast or changing it up?

Did you cook/bake anything amazing this weekend?

  1. You and Papa Grooves are so adorable! Happy Father’s Day to him! And congrats on your one-handed handstand. You are a strong, independent woman šŸ˜‰

  2. I love removing myself from social media over the weekends. I don’t check blogs, FB, or Instagram. Okay, maybe Instagram but I try to limit myself to once a day while I’m doing my planks post run! Also – you had some delicious looking eats! I eat the same breakfast every day – I’m so boring haha. Hope you have a great day! : )

  3. Love everything about this post. Isn’t logging off social media for a day or two the best? It’s crazy how when you do it you realize how much it was just a habit to check so often and it’s so unnecessary. I want all the food you ate this weekend – looks amazing. I definitely eat more than my dad too and everyone in my family for that matter. Danny tells me I eat like a man at least once a week but I take it as a compliment šŸ™‚

  4. Ok so I’m officially passed hangry at r this point!!!!šŸ˜ man you’re dad is lucky to have such an awesome cook as a daughter!
    Everything looks šŸ‘Œ
and I’m so glad you got to see your mom:)
Even though it’s so hard for me to do, signing off social media for a while can be so refreshing. I feel like I have a billion tabs open in my brain if I’m on for too long!šŸ™ˆšŸ™ˆšŸ™ˆ
You have a great week Alison and happy Father’s Day to your pops!!!

  5. Gosh – what a wonderful weekend! Three things: relaxed with my boy, did the Granite Games qualifier workout and finished Pretty Little Liars. I am a total creature of habit, so my meals are repeated quite a bit…and that’s okay. It can make days easier! I think I need to spend a weekend disconnected; even though I love connecting with others over Insta, I find myself mindlessly scrolling through it too much!

  6. Seriously all of your food made me extremely jealous.. especially the roasted sweet potatoes and chicken kabobs. I love the bonds you share with your family, it makes me happy to see you are so close to one another. Whenever I take a social media break I feel so much more aware of my own life. It is definitely a good thing to unplug and focus on the people and things that you actually get to see in person!

  7. I pretty much eat the same thing for breakfast everyday. It’s either eggs, toast, and tea, or if I’m lazy (or out off eggs) then I’ll just have oatmeal and tea šŸ˜›
I’m always wary of trying new things because I work out in the mornings, and if my breakfast isn’t filling enough to keep me full and energized, then my workout suffers. I know for a fact these do the job, so I just stick with them.

  8. Wow Alison. I just ate dinner out, and your pictures are making me want more food… But I am truly satisfied, so I’ll just feast on your pictures. And I love how you structure your bbq’s. They sound FUN!

  9. So. stoked you got to see mama – Seriously, she has a heart of gold (and I haven’t even met her!). I love the ‘buffet’ style eating too- Heck, I end up eating dinner WHILE making dinner and end in a food coma šŸ˜€
