Summer Food Bucket List

I feel like a new woman!

Processed with VSCOcam with b1 preset

Chopped it.

My mom said that I haven’t had my hair this short since I was, like, five years old. It’s true! If I look like a youngster, I might as well embrace it. Apparently this hair length is called a “lob”➔ long+bob.

There’s a lob on my head.

Ba da bop ba baaa, I’m lobbin’ it.

Like my lob?

In other news, I made some fancy chicken last night. I say fancy only because it took me forever to make and I made it in a cast iron skillet. Oh, and it had mushrooms and {dried} rosemary in it.

I used this recipe

I had it over some slightly mushy brown rice, because I’m that person who doesn’t know how to cook rice properly. WITH a rice cooker.

Last week I shared my summer bucket list, which included a bunch of activities I’d like to do before heading back to college. This week I have another summer bucket list— for food!

I should take advantage of the blessed availability of a kitchen while I’m home. Also, I want to make an effort to find some awesome food festivals and events in my county and in NYC. I’m not naturally an adventure-seeker, so when I discovered Eventbrite, I decided to join their summer bucket list for food festivals and events. It’s a good opportunity to step out of my comfort zone and find adventures!

Why not, right? I live next to the Big Apple for crying out loud— home of some of the best and most diverse food in the world!

This is a two-part bucket list. The first part is a list of foods I’d like to make at home, and the second part is a list of restaurants and food events I want to check out.

I’m going to use the term “bucket list” lightly this time, because I know I cannot check off all the following items. But at least I have a list, a sense of direction, and motivation! Right? Just nod your head in agreement, please.

The Food to Make

Nope, this post is not sponsored. I just thought Eventbrite was onto something groovy. They have this cool event management page, where people and companies can create and organize events and sell tickets. I actually found a few of the events listed above through Eventbrite! Their website makes it easy to find the location and type of event you’re looking for.

So go seek adventure this summer. You might discover fun things like a gelato class or a Greek festival! You might also learn that you can’t cook a certain food. Like rice.

So tell me:

Three things you want to cook/bake this summer!

One food event you want to attend this summer.

What is your hair length right now?

Have you ever messed up cooking a food that is supposed to be dumb easy?

  1. Eeee its so cute! A lob huh? Well it looks fantastic on you Ali..how does shorter locks feel? Mine has grown out super long – 3/4 way down my back, and I really want to get my side fringe back and a little trim at the least. Its just too easy to keep putting off though!
Can I move in with you for your summer? The temps are getting too low for my sanity down here and your foodie lists sound goooood! I absolutely cannot cook meat of any kind..you are quite the accomplished chef 🙂 .

  2. I’d really like to attend Smorgasbord in Brooklyn this summer! I’ve never been and think it would be so much fun! I also would love to go to a food truck festival at some point but I’m not sure there are any local ones. I haven’t cut my hair in over a year so it’s desperately needing a trim. And I cannot hard boil eggs for the life of me. It’s actually quite embarrassing.

  3. Oh man I can’t wait to get home to my kitchen! Summer cooking is the best that’s for sure, especially anything on the BBQ. There’s an annual veggie fest in Halifax every summer so I’d love to be able to make it this time around as I’ve never gone before. My hair right now is medium length I guess. It desperately needs a trim but I’m petrified to let it go.

  4. Great list! I want to make homemade pizza on the grill, banana soft serve and turkey burgers topped with guac! I also want to get a Blizzard from Dairy Queen and a cold beer on a restaurant patio (I couldn’t last summer since I was pregnant!)

Also, I’m loving the new haircut! So cute!

  5. Love this idea. Might steal it. Also your hair is amazing. I have been considering chopping mine into a lob (I did it a few years ago actually) but keep waiting to take the plunge. My hair is boring and just kind of medium length with no style to it so I want to switch it up. I am going to look at the Eventbrite page to see if there are cool things in my area (GELATO CLASS WHAT). ❤

  6. YOUR HAIR CUT IS GORGEOUS! Seriously, short suits you well!

I love your items for the list. If you are in need of a good peanut butter recipe, the foolproof one I use is just 1 cup peanut butter, 1 cup sugar, 1 egg, 1 tsp of vanilla extract! 350 for 10 minutes and boom! Amazing peanut butter cookies!

At the San Diego fair, the food of the year is a deep fried pickle… I’m intrigued by that. I do want to bake three new recipes from bloggers! I just haven’t narrowed it down to what yet… hmmmm.

Have a great day, Alison! 🙂

  7. I was thinking of a bucket list for myself (after seeing your first one) and realized the majority of what I want to do involves coffeehouses, cafes, and restaurants. Apparently the foodie part of me wants to get out and explore.
And girl – LOVE the hair. Love it.

  8. Ok first off your hair looks awesome!!!! So fresh and sophisticated!
Second!!!!…I would like to help you achieve all of these items and I volunteer myself to attend any/all of these events😉🙋🏼👯 seriously I think we share twin taste buds! Ha
One thing I always look forward to is our Italian feast nearby! And one more thing I’d like to do is enjoy a big NYC soft pretzel with mustard 😉

  9. LOVE LOVE LOVE this new hair! But you know what I appreciate more? The bangs. In literally every single korean drama I watch someone has those bangs, and I am forever reminded of the fact that my hair cannot do such a things #curlyhairprobs. Please document your cooking adventures– I would love to see you in action!

  10. Your hair looks awesome! And what a good idea to have a bucket list solely for the noms, you’re so lucky to live near New York. I visited for the first time in December and fell in love. If you find my heart in times square, please post it to me! ;D
I’m not sure if there are any food events going on near me, I shall have to do some research. In terms of what I wanna eat – I’m spending time in Morocco and want to try as much local food as I can! I’m also going to a Spanish island for a long weekend, and spanish food is always delicious. I love seafood paella so that is on my bucket list! Also copious amounts of ice cream because summer 😛
My hair right now is just above my shoulders since I cut it really short last year, but now i’m trying to grow it again because I much prefer it long!
I mess up cooking all. the. time. Especially baking. But once I was boiling eggs and I managed to burn them, no joke – the shells were black and charred! Whoops..

  11. OMG Alison, can I give you a recipe to add to your list!?! Hahah I am gonna recommend it anyways. It is so so so easy and Whenever people are thinking of summer recipes I ABSLUTELY have to do this because 1. its a unique recipe 2. its painfully simple yet looks like it was complicated 3. Its always the best cake anyone has ever had and their reaction when you tell them what’s in it is priceless 4. I love you and your blog and I feel like you need this in your life b/c its right up your alley!
make it in two regular cake pans, and frost with cream cheese frosting and top with ripe strawberries!

PS I LOVE your lob ❤ , This list is a super fun idea, and I already attended my food event: the Virginia beach strawberry festival 🙂
