“Go shawty, it’s your birthday. We’re gonna party like it’s your birthday.”
Whenever I think of this song, I think the lyrics should spell it “berfday” instead of “birthday.” I don’t know why. But then I found this version, which is my favorite:
have you ever seen such perfect scoops of *sherbet?
I turned 19 yesterday, woo! 19 is an awkward number, because it’s sandwiched between the legal 18 and the double-decade 20. Nevertheless, I have hope for awkward people, awkward situations, and now awkward numbers, so here’s to year number 19!
18 was a beautiful year for me. It was dense. Graduation, prom, Florida with Daliza, freshman year of college, Blend, and most importantly, all the lessons learned. It’s almost weird for me to say that I’m only 19 years old, because I feel like I’ve gained many more years worth of wisdom in the past 12 months! (I know what you’re thinking: “Awww the baby thinks she’s wise, das cute.”)

I asked my dad if time passes this quickly for the rest of your life, and he said, “It only accelerates from here on out.” OH MY GAWSH.
Many thanks to you, friends, for supporting me on Moves and Grooves. When I pray for you, I consider you friends, not just readers or followers. ♥
I can only take so much sap. We’re done. 😀
Scenes from the Weekend
I made these Asian quinoa meatballs on Thursday night, which we enjoyed throughout the weekend.
Fish Friday lunch of quinoa, sweet potato, and shrimp + Somersaults.
Two part breakfast on Wednesday (not a part of the weekend, but this was too good not to share): the last of a 2% Greek yogurt tub with my General Mills trail mix from Blend, strawberries, and cinnamon + Sweet Blueberry My Oatmeal sample packet with extra berries and sunflower seed butter.
Friday breakfast: Amanda’s oatmeal cookie dough smoothie (with greens added) + full fat Greek yogurt for dippin’. Aw yeah.
Still going strong with Memorial Day leftovers, and loving them just as much.
Pop and I went to a day of recollection retreat on Saturday at the seminary. We heard Damon Owens speak about theology of the body— he was awesome!
don’t know what this pose is
Post-evening walk dessert: Amanda’s banana bread mug cake with a side of blog reading and a Justin’s mini dark chocolate peanut butter cup. As you can tell, I really hate Amanda’s recipes. 😉
Berfday 🙂
My birthday started out with a yogurt mess. I would have made something a little more exciting for breakfast, but I wanted to save myself for lunch at Cooked & Co. with Pop!
For lunch I ordered the market salad (included beets, corn, edamame, dried cranberries, almonds, parmesan, and other yummy things), the edamame burger, and a corn muffin bigger than my face.
Delicious.
Afterwards, I did a whole lot o’ nothing at home before Daliza came over! She made me watch How I Met Your Mother starting from episode 1, since I had never watched the show before. It’s hilarious.
When it came time for dinner, we met up with our pal Michael at Smashburger, which was also a first-time experience for me. I had the grilled chicken, spinach, feta sandwich with a strawberry milkshake.
I can’t even remember the last time I had a milkshake, so this was the perfect time to make it happen. ‘Twas good stuff.
I also can’t remember the last time I went bowling, but luckily, Michael and Daliza hadn’t bowled in a while either. We were on a {low} level playing field, and we each won a game! With bumpers.
So much love and thanks to Michael and Daliza for treating me to such a wonderful night! And thank you to all my friends and family for the heartfelt birthday wishes. Overwhelmed (in a great way) would be the word that describes how I feel. ♥ God is good.
For all those who hoped I ate lots of nut butter yesterday, I had at least three spoonfuls total, thanks 😉

Back to work today! Surround yourself with awesome people. Then go spread your awesomeness too.
So tell me:
When is your birthday?
Are you good at bowling?
What did you do this weekend?
So many things to say, where do I start! Firstly, HAPPY BIRTHDAY! (for the weekend ofc.) You indeed are getting older and wiser now (I feel like patting you on the head would be appropriate here?). Secondly, I need those meatballs in my life! Recipe is bookmarked.
You look gorgeous in that dress! It looks like it was made for you! And a talk on body theology must have been so fascinating!
I am really glad you got your nut butter in. That’s what you want. It’s my birthday on Thursday (agh 20!) so I will definitely be following suit 😉
Thank you, Aimee! Oh my gosh, Thursday is my dad’s birthday too! I’ll definitely remember yours then 🙂
Happy birthday (again)!! I am so glad you had a great birthday. That edamame burger sounds interestingly fabulous! I would definitely try that 🙂 How I Met Your Mother is a great show! It is easy to get hooked.
Thank you! The edamame burger was delicious indeed. I need to think about what they could have put in there, so I can re-create it!
Happy belated birthday 🙂 The first year of college/last year of high school definitely is dense – that’s an excellent way to put it. There’s so much growth, but there’s still so much room for more! It’s crazy and exciting. So glad you had such a lovely birthday weekend!
Thanks, Ellen! I’m definitely looking forward to the adventures that lie ahead 🙂
No kidding! Life does go by CRAZY fast. HAPPY Birthday, and I hope this year is another year of that smile on your face growing and growing and growing and trying more of Amanda’s recipes and growing closer to Jesus most of all!
Thank you, Emily! ♥
Happy day after birthday!!! Glad you celebrated with a milkshake and this makes me want to go bowling. I haven’t been in forever and funny enough I took a bowling class my senior year of college (as a joke for extra credits) – I didn’t improve at all haha
Thanks, Hayley! That’s so cool that you took a bowling class! But I’d probably be with ya— I don’t know if I’d get any better, haha.
Awwh Happy Belated Ali 🙂 !! Hmm, I’ve never thought of 19 as awkward..but then again i often feel even younger than that. The big 2-0 looming ahead this month. Yeesh.
My best bud Jug says “berfday”. I may or may not wanted to give her a playful thwack on the head when she oes around me though 😉 . I don’t know..I almost think it sounds gross-ish. Burp, barf..yeah.
Your dessert bowl with the cremated(?..nope that’s not it!) Strawberries looks heavenly!
Thanks, Ms. J! Ahh, when is your birthday!? Yeah, berfday sounds so weird, I’m sorry.
Haha, macerated strawberries! XD
26 June 🙂 .
Happy [slightly belated] Birthday, sweet lady! I honestly can’t believe you’re only 19 — you’re most definitely wise beyond your years ❤ And sending you tonnes of birthday love — I hope that 19 will be your best year to date!
Thank you, Amanda! Much love to you ♥
Happy belated birthday Alison! You have had so many happy years, especially the last one, isn’t it exciting to know you have so many more ahead of you! X
Thanks so much, Jen! 🙂
HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!! heres to a year of awkward 🙂 hehe jk jk
Haha, I’m fully expecting awkwardness to be at an all time high this year 😉
HAPPY BIRTHDAY, FRIEND!!!
Sending you lots of love & warm wishes from the Rockies! 🙂 ❤
Out of everyone I "know" (in real life or the internet) you eat the best. BY FAR. My birthday is on July 4! Woooo
Thank you, Jo!! I’m so flattered that you think I eat the best. haha!
flattered is the wrong word… lucky? honored? blessed? all of the above.
So much good stuff this weekend!! That corn muffi had got me like😍😍😍😍!
I haven’t been bowling in years and I’m pretty sure you would like like a pro bowler playing with me🙈😂 unless we do the bumper lanes!
Have a great Monday! Love you girlie
Ands here to 19👍👍
Thanks, Katie! Hope you’re doing well!
Heyyy happy belated berrrrrfday 🙂 Seems like you had a fun day! Where are your mum and brother if I may ask?
I wanted to make Amanda’s banana bread mugcake this week too since I had (!) ripe bananas! But I totally forgot about it and already baked something different. Next time!
My berfday (I’m loving it 😀 ) is on April 19th, I turned 25 this year 🙂 I loved being 19, I thought it was a cool number, haha. All good wishes and blessings to you for your year ahead!
Mom and bro are in Florida right now! Mom is taking care of the vacation house while bro is doing his internship at Disney World!
Thanks, Ann, and happy super duper belated birthday to you! 😉
Wishing you all the best in your 19th year of life! You deserve a great year. ❤ I turn 19 on August 1st so I am right behind you. 🙂
You look lovely in that dress! Then again, I adore every picture of you so I am not sure my compliments carry much weight anymore.
Keep on watching How I Met Your Mother, but feel free to stop before you hit the last season. It goes downhill. I do love it though.
Your compliments always make me feel warm and fuzzy, don’t you worry. 🙂
Everyone says they hated the finale of HIMYM… I don’t know how far I’ll make it with the show anyway, because I’m terrible with keeping up with TV shows!
all the eats look sooo delicious! and HAPPY (belated) BIRTHDAY chica!! sounds like it was a great day which you deserve 🙂
xo
Thanks, Julianna!! ♥
HAPPY birthday! (I tried to press my B key multiple times but it did nothing). My birthday is this coming Monday and I actually forgot until 2 days ago. WTF.
Hope you get a second celebration when mum and bro come back! 🙂
I forget about my birthday too! I stopped thinking it was a national holiday after I turned 16. 😉
So. much. delicious. food. You’re belly is probably quite happy these days 🙂 Happy belated birthday! Mine is next month! There is a butterscotch panna cotta dessert I’ve been wanting to try for a while now – I think I may head to that restaurant for my birthday dinner + treat!
Oops – your*
My belly is most definitely happy 🙂 Mmm butterscotch wanna cotta sounds incredible!!
