Meep.
I did not get to put up another post last week, but that’s the outcome I was sensing since I had a big psych test on Friday AND there were so many other fun things happening when I wasn’t studying. I’ll just get right into it, because the meat of this post just speaks for itself.
Best Friend Surprise
Someone very special decided to be awesome and sneaky on Tuesday…

I’m the most clueless doofus out there, but…Daliza was in Boston.
Shoutout to my roommate Jordan for helping Daliza make this crazy surprise happen! They went through this whole complicated process to get me to come out at the right time and place so that Daliza could surprise me. You don’t get to see it in this video, but I started crying. As I do. I was utterly shocked and ecstatic that Daliza was here at Boston University to visit me!
She’s the bomb. Jordan’s the bomb. God blessed me with some rockstar friends, eh?
Ben Turns 21
After chillin’ with my Mexican sister from another mister for a few precious hours before she headed back to NY (yes, she came all the way up to Boston just for a day— dedication ♥), I joined my family in the evening for dinner to celebrate bro-Ben’s 21st! #boozeTues
We went to an upscale Southern restaurant called Hungry Mother, and it was wonderfully rich and comforting. It’s awesome that they use local ingredients and change up their menu every day too! They have a prix fixe menu option, so we all chose that (mom and I shared) and essentially ordered everything on the petite menu to share.
Course 1: chicken-fried veal sweetbreads // escargot with biscuit topping // sunchoke parsnip soup
Course 2: charcuterie board // oysters rockefeller // beet and baby scallop salad
Course 3: wild catfish with cornbread puree and brussels sprouts // squab with farroto // rabbit with rabbit andouille sausage and gold rice grits
Course 3: cheese plate // yogurt cheesecake with cranberry caramel and poached apple // chocolate truffle tart with buttermilk ice cream // complimentary cookies of some sort
All the plates were on the small side, so it was a perfect tasting evening. If the plates were any bigger, I might have ended up blowing up from water retention. That food was pretty heavy on the salt and fat (as expected from a Southern-inspired restaurant), but it was delicious for sure! My favorites were the beet and scallop salad and the yogurt cheesecake.
Hope you had a marvelous birthday, bro! I can’t believe you can consume alcohol legally now. We were drinking milk from sippy cups, like, yesterday?
School.
Tests, labs, essays, tour guide training, REGISTRATION FOR CLASSES.
It’s like the Hunger Games trying to register for classes. You have to strategize, have a backup plan, prepare for the worst and hope for the best. Everyone wants the same classes as you, so you have to pounce on that ish.
Anyway, it wasn’t too bad (except for 6-8 pm bio lab, ew). Hopefully everything works out next semester!
My friends and I also had tour guide training all day on Saturday, which was kind of draining (especially since we had to walk outside for two hours in the frigid air that cut through my soul), but I’m totally looking forward to giving tours next semester! If any of you high schoolers are thinking about Boston University….!!!
More Birthdays (and sweets)
Besides celebrating bro-Ben’s birthday, I also joined in the celebration of my friend Christina’s birthday on Thursday!
She’s 19 and fabulous (and she has a killer opera voice). Our friend Cori made a huge batch of eggless cookie dough, which we all very much appreciated. Then I went to a Students for Life club meeting, where there was pumpkin and NY cheesecake made by the wonderful Cecilia.
My friends are going to give me diabetes.
We also celebrated friend-Ben’s birthday on Saturday! A bunch of us watched him and two other friends do the legendary Rhett’s challenge, which is trying to eat 8 GIANT scoops of ice cream, a triple bacon cheeseburger, a large side of fries, and a large root beer within 30 minutes.
My friends are going to vicariously give me diabetes.
They did not complete the challenge, but that’s really okay. It was actually difficult to watch them try to down that food. Daily Moves and Grooves does not condone these kinds of challenges.
Cold Weather
It’s finally upon us, which means it’s time to break out the mom jacket.
Would you believe me if I said I’ve had this jacket since 6th grade? It fits a lot better now.
Hi, Connor and Louis!
It’s not even that cold yet for Boston standards. When we’re back here in February, I might have to risk looking like a robber by walking around in a ski mask so my face doesn’t fall off.
And that’s IT, friends! 8 more days until Thanksgiving break. I can almost taste it.
I hope you all have a marvelous Monday!
Linking up with Katie!
So tell me:
Two exciting things that happened to you last week!
Do you like Southern cuisine?
Is it freezing where you live?
It is freezing where I live Alison. And that wouldn’t be so bad if it wasn’t for the simple fact that…its supposed to be SUMMER for gosh darn sakes!! But I guess I’m going to just have to keep on rocking my fluffy socks. And all the comfort food 🙂 .
Wow I always love when life is SO full; a mix of work/studies and lotso fun and laughter with loved ones.
Yeah, why is it cold where you are?! Hmm ain’t nothing wrong with fuzzy socks and comfort food though 🙂
A full life is wonderful indeed!
Ahh registering for classes is so fun yet stressful at the same time! I hope you get all the courses you want! And it’s starting to get cold in New Jersey now, sadly :(. Is it weird that I was just wearing sundresses about 3 weeks ago?!
My schedule is pretty good, so I can’t complain!
Girl, I was working out outside in a tank top only 2 weeks ago. Winter is hitting for sure now though!
Yay for surprise best friend visits! And all that food looks amazing!
And random but I’d love if you shared this post on my new Weekend Snapshots link up. The link-up just went live today!

You crack me up girl!!!😂😜
I’m so glad you got to see Daliza! It almost makes me teary eyed🙈
Aaaaand if by southern food you mean corn bread and bread pudding than yesssssss! Sign me up and set me some of that!!!🙋🙋🙋
Have a great week Alison!!!! Just a few more days and you’ll be homeward bound😃
If the corn bread didn’t cost extra, I would have been ALL over that. I’ll be getting my fix at Thanksgiving, that’s for sure!
Hope you have a great week as well, Katie! Thank you!
Sweetest surprise EVER. Awww girl. I’m so happy for you! I love that you’re experiencing so many blessings in your life ❤ Can you believe that I've never really experienced true Wouthern cuisine before? I think I'm a little too far north for that. And speaking of being north… YES it's cold here. It was around -25C last week, but this week we're sitting at a balmy -3. Woo!
We need to get you some chicken-fried everything and some buttery cornbread, girl! 🙂
Oof those temperatures make our 37F seem like summer!

You got that right about southern food being fattening! They really like to fry everything or use a lot of oil down here. Not the healthiest but they do make some good food like gumbo and alligator sausage!
Ooooo bring me back some alligator sausage!! 😉
