So there’s no Greek yogurt here at BU. Y’all know how much I love the stuff and tend to get a lot of it in my tummy…and on my laptop and calculator.
Since I’m currently separated from the creamy, tangy dairy product, I’ve found another thing that is quickly rising on my OMG-I-Want-It-Every-Day list (you have a list like that too, don’t lie).
It’s cottage cheese.
The sound of the words cottage and cheese together kind of make me squeamish, but I have been opened to a whole new world during this time of adaptation without Greek yogurt. You’ll see below how I like my cottage cheese.
I’ve also thrown in some of the other things I’ve been eating in the past week!
Sharing my eats on Jenn’s WIAW!
Breakfasts
Dorm oatmeal with vanilla protein powder, banana, and peanut butter
Makeshift overnight oats: warmed up some quick oats with water, added protein powder and banana, put it into an almost-empty sunflower seed butter jar, left in fridge overnight, enjoyed in the morn!
And again in a pb jar 🙂
My new favorite thing: cottage cheese with strawberry yogurt and peanut butter + whole wheat apple cinnamon muffin with more pb + an apple + glass o’ milk
Weirdest brunch ever: two eggs with veggies and whole wheat toast + three pieces of dim sum (dining hall special of that day) + my new favorite thing
Whole wheat apple pancake with pb and a glass o’ milk + my new favorite thing…again.
Lunches
Huge salad + roast beef, provolone, lettuce, tomato, honey mustard panini on multigrain
Lunch with brother Ben: cornmeal-crusted fish tacos + a few bites of his “El Guapo” burrito that contained everything and anything (beef, rice, beans, veggies, sweet plantains…and probably more)
Snacky lunch in the dorm: apple + Wheat Thins (a lot more than what’s pictured here) with sunflower seed butter (delicious!) + mixed nuts + unpictured banana
Baked pollock with roasted potatoes and bruschetta + salad with a hard boiled egg, feta, and light honey mustard dressing
Moroccan chicken with quinoa + salad with some sort of bean tuna salad and balsamic dressing
Snacks
LOTS of fruit and nuts!
Post-workout oatmeal with vanilla protein powder, half a banana, and sunflower seed butter
Dinners
Turkey breast + mashed sweet potatoes + cornbread(?) stuffing + broccoli {I did it all for the carbs. YUMMM.}
Butternut squash risotto with vegan chicken + salad with lentils and honey mustard dressing
A different kind of Moroccan chicken + squash (and later I ate spaghetti and a meatball with more veggies at the Catholic center!)
Desserts
Yes. My new favorite thing for dessert too. With granola!
Freshly baked apple pie and a brownie from one of the faculty in residence living on our floor! She even read us stories as we ate her baked goods. She’s the sweetest (pun intended)!
Cookies and cream ice cream at bro’s apartment
Vanilla soft serve with granola
Free peanut butter Insomnia cookie before watching the hypnotist
Banana cake. WOW so good.
Plus a bunch of other free cookies and treats that EVERYONE KEEPS PUTTING IN OUR FACES. I mean, I’m not complaining (I’m so grateful for such generous friends!), but this week has definitely been a little more sugar-coated than normal. I guess I can just stop getting things like banana cake from the dining hall…I guess…
Holy crap, so much foooooood. It’s a good thing we walk a lot here 😉
Happy Wednesday, friends!
So tell me:
What have you been obsessed with lately?
Do you like cottage cheese? How do you like to eat it?
Your favourite thing is basically ingrained in me and will probably be happening very soon if I can remember to snag some cottage cheese at the store…I haven’t had cottage cheese in forever. I’m telling you, the amount of times I’ve went in search of a suitable “substitute” only because my stand-by is no longer available to me, and then proceeding to fall head over heels for something else. Love when that happens 😀 .
Oh I need apple pie. And banana bread! And cookies and cream ice-cream..preferably covering a chocolate brownie 😉 .
I’m definitely falling in love with cottage cheese! 😉
PLEASE, take the sweets from me!
I only started to like cottage cheese last year and I legit went crazy over it for like a month. Weirdly I haven’t had it since but now I’m kind of craving it…
Recipe using cottage cheese perhaps? 😉
PB insomnia cookies and also banana cake from my sorority’s chef were two of my VERY FAVORITE things in college! Delicious looking eats 🙂 xx
Mmm Amen to that!
This panini looks and sounds insanely good!
Vegan chicken?? Weird.
You should add cottage cheese to overnight oats, or to regular oats after cooking (or layer oatmeal with it). Yum! I like to add cc to smoothies too every once in a while!
The vegan chicken WAS weird, not gonna lie, but it was good enough for me to finish!
I was actually thinking of adding cottage cheese to my overnight oats, but I don’t know if I can manage to sneak some out of the dining hall to bring back to my room 😉
Wow you are eating some good food! And it looks like the perfect study fuel!
I eat cottage cheese in more of a savoury way – I mix it with marinara sauce atop a sweet potato – yum!
Mmm that sounds delicious! Now I’m interested in trying a savory cottage cheese arrangement 🙂
Not gonna like I cant stand cottage cheese but hey whatever floats your boat💁🚣 and besides desperate times call for desperate measures! 😉
This is gonna sound extremely random and detailed but I cannot get enough of string cheese wrapped in turkey and pickles with wheat thins. Holy salt huh?! 😳
Anyways happy Wednesday Alison! Half to Friday!😊😘
And mustard. Can’t forgot the mustard or else I would not be able to exceed my sodium limit by like a zillion😜
I can understand why a lot of people don’t like cottage cheese. It IS kinda weird haha.
Oh interesting snack combo! Sounds pretty good though! Different textures and flavors… 😉
I LOVE cottage cheese. Used to hate it because of the texture, but then found out how good it is for you, and now I eat it allll the time. I actually prefer cottage cheese the savoury way, in salad or even in cheese sauce. Kinda (totally) weird, but I like it.
As we speak I literally just inhaled a bowl of cottage cheese mixed with cereal and topped with jam and almond butter. So.freaking.good. The sweet and salty combo is just to die for. And as for my current obsession… pancakes. I started eating them to test out a recipe I was making, and now I just can’t stop.
Seriously— cottage cheese is so underrated. That combo sounds so delicious.
Mmm when are pancakes NOT something to be obsessed over?
cottage cheese is one of life’s greatest salty creations- paired with sweet things- it’s epic. you need to try mixing it with cocoa powder and raspberries and peanut butter on top!
Oooo you and your genius combos. If only I liked chocolate more…
I’ve always been a BIG fan of cottage cheese. I love it mixed with any kind of jam, I love it mixed with canned white tuna, I love using it to make cottage cheese pancakes, I love it mixed into my oatmeal for some added protein and I love it on it’s own with a little sea salt and some whole grain crackers.
Does the dorm serve whole wheat apple pancakes?!?! So cool. And isn’t cottage cheese the bomb?! I used to cringe at the sight of it but now I go through a tub a week. I just switched to 4% milkfat. OMG. No words. So much good food you’re eating!!
YUM!! These look like some great eats!! 🙂 Your new fave thing looks delicious! 🙂 …also, that cookies and cream ice cream at your brothers place?! YUM…and so fun! My brother just got married and live in the married housing right behind my dorm!! It’s so nice! They got me some delicious chocolate chip Gelato that I keep at there house and eat when I go over! YUMMY and a fun time!
That’s so cool that your brother lives so close to you! Also, how exciting is it that he just got married?? Ahh that must be an awesome time for him, his new wife, and all of you.
No greek yogurt? Whatttt. I’m totally lactose intolerant, so eating it hasn’t really been an option but ugh! So this may sound crazy, but I’m applying to BU. I’ve taken BC off my prospective college list and apparently turned towards the light. Your cafeteria food has looked so amazing, so BU is currently winning in the food category. I’ve never been a fan of cottage cheese, but I’m really immature about it and totally haven’t given it a chance in a while. I’ll def be buying a tub to see if my taste buds have changed xx
YES, girl yaaasss. You have definitely turned towards the light. Wishing you the absolute best in the whole application process! It’s tedious and annoying at times, but it’s freaking exciting too.
If you come visit BU, we’ll have a cottage cheese tasting for you.
