Wait, I’m still posting?
I’m still at FYSOP and all, but I decided to type up some posts during the weekend so I could still check in with you guys! Also, What I Ate Wednesday with Jenn is just fun.
I mentioned last week that I will be abandoning the DSLR while I’m at college, so I’ve been trying to brush up my iPhone food photography with the help of the VSCO Cam app. I feel like this vscocam is the LA-hipster-foodie app to use, but I can’t resist feeling like Cait’s Plate or Molly Yeh (except a lot less refined) when I edit photos there.
So here’s a mix of my last DSLR and iPhone/vscocam-edited food photos from home AND college the last week!
Breakfasts
iPhone: blueberry pancakes at brunch with my three best friends
DSLR: Greek yogurt with chia, cinnamon, nutmeg, honey, banana, zucchini banana bread, and sunflower seed butter
DSLR: cookie dough cereal with chia, banana and mango
DSLR: fluffy chia banana oatmeal with sunflower seed butter
iPhone: FYSOP breakfast of muffins and half a bagel with cream cheese. SUGAR RUSH FROM THOSE MUFFINS.
Lunches
DSLR: pita bread with avocado, salt and pepper + spinach with crab-tofu-egg-zucchini scramble
iPhone: sushi lunch with mama
DSLR: udon noodles with Chinese takeout
iPhone: Greek chicken wrap from a service station en route to Boston
iPhone: Dining hall food! Turkey, mustard, onion chutney, maple turkey, lettuce, tomato sandwich on wheat + mozzarella tomato balsamic salad
Snacks
iPhone: sharing waffle fries with Daliza
DSLR: nighttime snack of yogurt with cinnamon and stevia
DSLR: the usual dried fig with Greek yogurt
DSLR: grilled veggies (eaten with fingers because that’s more fun)
iPhone: banana with peanut butter and sea salt
Dinners
DSLR: Soba noodles + leftover Thai chicken + big green salad
DSLR: Leftover rice pilaf + pork + avocado
DSLR: Salad with curry chicken + avocado toast
iPhone: {really dry} roasted chicken + {really tasty!} sweet potatoes + veggies from the dining hall
iPhone: roasted potatoes + salad with tofu and chickpeas from the dining hall
Desserts
iPhone: frozen yogurt + bubble tea with mom
DSLR: The one and only— peach cobbler
iPhone: vanilla soft serve from the dining hall 😀
I just had a spoonful of peanut butter here in my dorm because I didn’t get my fix at breakfast. Once I start going to the dining hall for breakfast during the school year, I’m actually going to bring a little container of nut butter with me. Bring on the judgmental stares. BRING IT.
The college experience is going well so far, by the way! I must admit that I’m a little homesick, even though my parents are visiting this weekend for parent day. Nevertheless, I’m making friends (woo!) and having fun learning about the issue areas for which we are all volunteering. Maybe I’ll be able to sneak in a quick “thinking out loud” post tomorrow, but we shall see if time (and sanity) permits. 🙂
Hope you guys have a great Wednesday!
So tell me:
Do you use VSCO cam to edit iPhone photos?
Three things you’ve eaten and loved recently.
Were you homesick in college?
Great to hear your making friends & eating well. So many delicious & nutritious meals :
So glad you’re enjoying the first few days of the “college experience”! 😉 It’s so great that you’re still making an effort to update the blog even at such a busy time in your life. You’re amazing Alison! 🙂 Good luck, and keep on keepin’ on. 8)
p.s. That vanilla soft serve and avocado toast got me feelin’ some type of way even though i just finished breakfast… 😛
Thanks so much, Brianna! I love blogging too much, I guess 🙂
I am loving the college-life documentation. I can’t imagine myself being able to keep up my blog in actual college; it’s tough enough keeping up with it + online high school classes. Big props to you, girl!
Also, I saw your peach cobbler on Monday’s post and I didn’t say anything then, buuuuuut I think I’m gonna have to make some myself.
P.S. I’m not in college but I do get homesick all. the. time. Even if my parents are with me. I’m a little house mouse I guess. 🙂
I’ve been away from my parents for a longer period of time before, but I think the idea that I’m going to be here more extensively is freaking me out a bit!
I wouldn’t count on this posting frequency for too long since classes haven’t even started yet, but I’ll do my best! 🙂
MAKE THE PEACH COBBLER. You will not regret it.
iPhones take LOVELY pictures. Your pictures actually look better than the one I take with my regular camera! By the way, is it a safety hazard to bring your DSLR to school?
iPhone 5 photos are amazing! And I have a safe to lock up my valuables, so it’s not particularly a safety issue. I just don’t want to carry it with me and potentially lose it/have it stolen.
I’m going to be that annoying person that takes my dSLR with me everywhere, haha! I just love the pictures too much to go back to iPhone pics. However, if I DO use the iPhone, I like the camera+ app! VSCO cam is pretty awesome too, though. Glad to hear everything is going well!
You rock those DSLR photos! But I still must say that iPhone pictures make for a decent alternative. Thanks, Leigha!
I loooove the VSCO app!! I feel like the filters are awesome. I’ve thought about buying the filters for Lightroom but they’re kind of expensive… one thing at a time I suppose!
Have fun with these early college days!!! 🙂
Me too! I love the faded, mysterious look of all the filters on the VSCO app. Thanks, Liz!
Love all of the veggies you’ve added in!
Can never forget about them! 😉
Yay to having fun and making friends! Can’t wait to hear more! 🙂
Thanks, Jen!
I’m so hapy you posted and am proud of you for surviving so far!!
I was definitely homesick in college but the good news is is that it WILL get a lot better 🙂
Hope you have a great week!!!!
Ps everything looks delicious as usual!😍
Thanks, Katie! Hopefully you’ll be saying the same thing once classes actually start… 😉
you’ll get into the swing of things before you know it! Just say yes to everything and everyone. It’s the ultimate way to make new friends and get adjusted to a new city.
I love my DSLR and iphone equally. Not sure I could choose between either or part with one!
Thanks, Davs! You have so many cool-lookin’ friends, so I know your advice is sound. 😉
Loving the grilled zucchini – I had some for lunch!
aaand now i want some blueberry pancakes. but i ate all my blueberries in one sitting at lunch yesterday… #thestruggle haha. hopefully will find some time to make it to the grocery store amidst moving so i can make some!
glad to hear you’re liking everything so far!
Blueberries are so easy to down in one sitting. Those delicious stinkers.
Thanks, Julianna!
My favorite eats this week were – I had some frozen yogurt with Reeses’s (my favorite), Caprese salad, and hummus from my favorite restaurants.
I went to school on the other side of the country my freshman year so yeah, I got pretty homesick. Luckily I had a wonderful roommate and friends to cheer me up!
Caprese salad is my favorite!! Oof I cannot even imagine going to school on the opposite side of the country from my family. Glad you made great friends!
umm….your iphone photos are amazing and i think you need to give me a tutorial on it.
PS How likely is it for you to get to Toronto in November. Serious question.
Play with the app until you think the picture looks hipster and mysterious. That’s my tutorial.
Urghhh I’m going to be in Toronto in DECEMBER!!!
I was homesick for my first week, and then was totally fine….until midterms hit. Those creep up on ya, but just be prepared and aware and you’ll be all good.
Also, bringing a nut butter jar to the dining hall is totally okay. (I’ve carried it around in my backpack on MULTIPLE occasions).
I bet those will drive me a little insane! But thanks for the heads up 🙂
I’m glad I’m not the only nut-butter-crazed college student!
