Do’s and Don’ts of Traveling to Florida

On traveling to Florida and spending our first day here:

Do make overnight oats when you have to leave the house at 5 AM.

Don’t go to sleep at 12:30 the night before.

I was still somehow awake enough to drive 3+ hours to the AutoTrain station in Virginia.

Do grab lunch at the Eden Vietnamese Center before boarding the train.

We went to a restaurant called Rice Paper!

Do endure the on-and-off service of the train to watch the World Cup final.

So sad Argentina lost.

Don’t be picky with your food on the AutoTrain.

It’s still a thousand times better than airplane food.

Do take mirror selfies in the bathroom “lounge.”

Because it’s called a bathroom “lounge”….

Do (or maybe don’t) have one of the overly oily and sweet corn muffins for breakfast.

So bad, but so very good.

Don’t wear a heavy duty cotton t-shirt when going to Florida in the summer.

I felt like I was in a thermos when I arrived.

Do go to Tijuana Flats if you’re in the South.

If that doesn’t catch your attention, I don’t know what will.

Don’t forget to pack enough underwear. Three pairs for three weeks isn’t enough.

Yep, that would be me.

Do make a trip to Publix.

You know how I feel about supermarkets.

Don’t waste a tissue to pick up dead bugs when you can use a receipt.

EW. Thanks, Daliza for taking care of that little bugger.

Do practice yoga outside with your best friend.

Don’t practice yoga outside while there’s a thunderstorm and there are birds checkin’ you out.

We did that anyway.

Do take pictures of the sky when it’s YELLOW.

God’s painting.

Thanks for all your prayers and well wishes on our travels! We’ve had a blast so far as you might be able to tell 🙂 Can’t wait to share the rest of our adventures with you!

Hope you all have a beautiful day!

So tell me:

What do you eat for breakfast on the go?

Do you like supermarkets as much as I do?

When was the last time you saw a beautiful sunset?

  1. That sunset is unreal! Only it apparently isn’t so colour me yellow, err, jealous. (:
The underwear dilemma, huh? I think after having to borrow some of my sister’s – who obviously was absolutely pleased to share … – I’ve developped a tendency to overpack it. Clearly six pairs for a three-day stay are appropriate. No surprise I’m lugging around a way too heavy suitcase every time. Enjoying supermarkets and buying whichever products fascinate me doesn’t help there…
Enjoy the remainder of your stay!
P.S.: Sorry I’m not sorry Germany won. Not like I was a soccer fan but I figure it’s peer pressure now.

  2. My breakfast to go is quark with flax seeds, nuts, berries. Almost overnight oatmeal
But without the oats! Fortunately I don’t need breakfast to go too often.
I can totally relate with your love to supermarkets! I love grocery shopping so much. Much more than clothes shopping…
Why aren’t you Happy for us Germans for our championship?? 😦 be happy for me 😉

  3. 😂😂😂 I loved this!!!!!
I always pack Overnight oats for breakfast on the go!! Only thing that’s keeps me satisfied!
Love love supermarkets way to much 🙈
Funny thing, my mom doesn’t fly so we went to Disney on amtrak one year! Longest trip of my life and will never do it again but it was definitely interesting. (Side note: it took 32 hours bc a car collided into the train so we were delayed and then the plumbing wasn’t working for the remainder of the trip😭) all in the name of Disney world though😊 lol
Have a great day in Florida ladies!
Btw do you have a house down there?

  4. yayyy for new grocery stores! lookin’ fancy in those yoga poses 😉 hope you’re having a wonderful time down there (and have bought some more underwear..hahaha #struggles. definitely been there!)

  5. Looks like so much fun!! And YES, overnight oats are always my go to breakfast while traveling. It doesn’t get easier. I loooove supermarkets so much! It’s bad haha. The sunset is absolutely beautiful!!

  6. Are you SERIOUS about that sunset?! Omigosh that’s absolutely gorgeous! And I hear ya on loving grocery stores. I was just in Vegas and I’m not even kidding when I say that Whole Foods was the first place I visited. It was on the way from the airport to our hotel, so it only made sense, right? 😉 Hope you’re having an awesome trip, lady!

  7. Such an awesome travel guide :D..the follow-up I look forward to. Uhm yes to -noticing-breathtaking sunsets…the most spell-bounding I’ve laid eyes on always had the trademark layers of soft orange, pink and purple; yellow is definitely captivating.
I haven’t needed a breakfast to go in ages..but I’ll agree on overnight oats being a perfect option.
The autotrain just sounds like so much fun. And better than airplane food has to make it a winner!
Oh gosh yes, the exact same feeling on the sleep front transpires with me before a trip – its that excitement bubbling inside 😉 .

  8. I hate yoga but those pictures make me want to shavasna..or whatever it’s called!

That train ride looks pretty epic- but then again, IF you had read Harry Potter, you could have had more fun. Just saying.

    Aeroplane food is like punishment.

  10. That sunset pic!! WOW!!! We visited Disney last February for my daughter’s dance competition, so spent most of our time at ESPN center. Coming form California, the sudden rain always sort of throws me, we never get that!
Loving those overnight oats… I’ve never tried them but you have inspired me!!
