WIAW: Sweet and Salty

Ciao! Come stai?

I’m trying to be worldly in honor of the World Cup. Also, I’m glad you all enjoyed my Would You Rather vlog yesterday! I’m always nervous posting videos of myself…because, well, it’s my face and my voice and my eyes that can never focus on ONE THING.

Today I’m actually headed to Boston University for orientation! I’m the cliche mix of nervous and excited, but mostly excited. Pray that I make friends, please.

In the meantime, here are some of the sweet and salty eats I ate on some day last week. Sweet + salty is a match made in heaven, am I right?

Breakfast

Sweet: banana blueberry overnight oats // Salty: sunflower seed butter (On the bottom AND the top. I was feelin’ it.)

The absolute BEST.

Snack

Just sweet.

I didn’t add salt to these…

Lunch

Salty: cheesy scrambled eggs with whole wheat tortilla // Sweet: strawberry jam

Spinach salad with salt – pepper – honey – olive oil dressing

I’ve seen the funky jam+egg sandwich combo on other blogs before, and I’d always wanted to try it out. Last week I finally did, and it was pretty good! I think I may have spread too much jam on my tortilla though, because all I really tasted was the jam.

Snacks

Sweet: Greek yogurt with cinnamon, nutmeg, honey, banana // Salty: almond butter

If that’s not a beautiful snack, I don’t know what is.

Just salty: romaine with spinach artichoke hummus

Dinner

DSC_8526

Leftover steak and potato hash + naturally salty salmon marinated in sweet vidalia onion dressing and dill + spinach

Random but deeeelicious!

Dessert

dried figs and greek yogurt

Just sweet: the usual dried figs with Greek yogurt

It’s just too good.

And that’s about it! I seriously don’t understand people who don’t enjoy sweet and salty things (I’m talking to you, Livv). It’s a taste symphony that was destined for our taste buds. It’s that deep.

Hope you all have a wonderful Wednesday!

So tell me:

What are your favorite sweet and salty combos?

Have you ever tried a jam + egg sandwich?

  1. A girl after my own heart! I LOVE a good sweet and salty combo, in fact lately I have been taking it to the extreme and eating sandwiches with raisin bread, which I think is a little too out there, even for me. But it was expensive bread and it needed using up! My favourite sweet and salty combo has to be PB and J. Nothing tops it. Good luck at the university today! I’m sure you’ll have a great time! On my first day of uni I thought I wouldn’t make a single friend, but I ended up making two great friends I don’t think I could live without!

  2. I did the jam + egg combo one time! I think I added a slice of turkey too. It was good, but it wasn’t life changing! But those overnight oats…with nut butter on both the bottom AND top? ❤

  3. I don’t get people who don’t like sweet and salty things either. My dad detests salted caramel and it baffles me how I am his daughter because I legit coat my life in salt. Also I just booked a trip to Boston, but it’s in August so you probs won’t be there 😦

  4. The jam & egg combination sounds so good! Back when I was younger (I mean a LOT younger) I ate my scrambled eggs drizzled with strawberry syrup. I’m telling you, the only reason I don’t still eat that every day is because of the shame ensued. My favorite sweet and salty combo now would have to be pretzels dipped (i.e. drowned) in Nutella. Not the healthiest for the body, but sooooo good for the soul. 😉

  5. Truth. The tongue thrives upon being subjected to a reconcilation of sweet+salty.
You know what is a good addition – speaking from experience – to totally perk up the jam and egg combo a hundred notches? Cheese! Seriously, do it..at least once in your life 😉 .

  6. Mmm so much good stuff:)
I love mini dark chocolate covered pretzles! And ofcourse nut butter with banana …or anything for that matter!
Have a great time at orientation! I’m saying prayers but I doubt you’ll need them. You’re a rock star and anyone would be lucky to meet you😘

  7. I love the sweet and salty combination!! You have got to promise me that you will try this – please!! Dried fig + salted roasted almond butter. Make sure to use one of the juicy dried figs and dip away!! Its like heaven in one bite 🙂

      • Haha! You are so funny and cute! How did you like it? I’m about to have some now!! By the way, after you open your bag of figs do you store it in the fridge or pantry? It says to store in the fridge and I do that but the figs get hard and not nice and soft lol

        • It was delicious! And we store the figs in the fridge. We actually stock up a lot of bags in the freezer, and when we’re ready to open them, we transfer them to the fridge!
My mom used to soften them in small batches. She would take a few figs out in a container and leave them outside of the fridge!

  8. Sweet and salty is the perfect combo. I have see tried the egg and jam combo. It looks weird, but I’m a picky eater.
